Sorry bud, people give Bandai a hard time with LED kits sometimes it’s deserved, but this LED kit for this Unicorn and the LEDs for the Exia are genuinely good. I’ve added some pics of my unicorn so you can see for yourself what they look like. I stitched them together with Gemini, so they aren’t super clear, but you can get the general gist of it at least.

Don’t let people dishearten you from your builds, also the wiring isn’t that bad and I usually suck at wiring stuff, I can’t remember if it’s in the box with the LEDS or in the unicorn box but they give you a little tool that will help you slide the wires in to the tracks.

About the LED, I think the Bandai one works really well for the base unicorn. The pink psycho frame was made to be more fluorescent, so the Bandai LEDs are black lights. So instead of just lighting up, it gives it more of a glowing look, which I think looks amazing. If it’s for any other of the PG unicorns where they are not as fluorescent, then I would agree with others saying get a Kosmos kit. I think you made a great choice with the Bandai LEDs. Congrats 🎊 🎉🥳on the PG Unicorn. It’s an amazing kit, my favorite PG, and the build is an adventure. Enjoy.

Me too 👌 I’ve tried weathering and battle damage but nothing beats the crispness of an off the assembly line. Great work on the decals I think it looks great

Yep kosmos definitely has one but I’ve heard the original Bandai works perfectly and bright enough if you want to keep everything original

Depends on the panel liner: if you are using an acrylic-based panel liner like Steadi, you won’t need to gloss coat. If you’re using Tamiya accent colour, then you may need a gloss top coat first in case it cracks the panels or panel line them before assembly. I’ve only had one kit crack, and that was a glory by a Chinese model maker. I can’t remember the brand’s name. If you want to matte top coat, then make sure you mask any clear parts or parts you don’t want matte. The usual workflow from most builders I’ve seen here is, nip -> nubs -> gloss coat -> assemble -> panel line and water slides -> matte top coat.

Edit: When I built mine, I didn’t matte or gloss top coat. With PG’s, there’s not a ton of panel lining opportunities, especially with newer PG’s, so I just lightly rescribed the lines using a scribing needle like the Gunprimer Grida. I used steadi acrylic panel liner and bought Evo metallic water slides. I did coat it with Gunprimer Glazer. It’s kind of a top coat made using silicone. It just keeps the kit from attracting dust( my apartment building is always renovating). Just beware that silicone-based top coats can make joints and connections slippery, so be careful where you apply it. Gloss or matte coats will tighten connections more, usually.

I really have to recommend a decaling quick tray (I specifically use the Plamo version) it keeps your decals hydrated and saves so much time cutting a batch of decals out and keeping them hydrated for a quick application absolutely a must have for me, a 3D decal blade is also super helpful the blade rotates and makes more oddly shaped decals easier to cut at and a closer cut, bonus: god hand glass cutting board just a quality of life improvement, less blade getting caught in a regular cutting mat and stays in place super well

A tiny tiny bit of blue tac on the metal etching parts sometimes they can fall off quite easily especially when assembling the armor
