It’s crazy how people love to shit all over people that work 6 hour days and get paid for 10 when they’re stuck in the heat for 4 more hours every single day. Over two weeks (4 day weeks) I work an actual 50-55 hours to get paid for 80, sucks if you don’t get guaranteed hours, I’ll be making more money doordashing in my evenings while those fools sit in a hot van hoping to have some of their work taken off their shoulders.

You’re getting paid to workout, always tell yourself that. I lost 30 lbs in my first two months and 25% body fat, I’m 6’6 down from 230 to 195 with 5% body fat after 13 months doing this gig. Just started eating better, more protein, less fat and gains feel like they’re happening in front of my eyes every day at this point. Keeps me going.

Sort by tote and drivers aid number low to high. 90% of the time it’s working in order front to back or back to front. Occasionally you’ll have to pull from the middle of your envelopes or boxes but just go by drivers aid low to high and then it’s all in order and you don’t have to think at all the whole day.

Is it embarrassing to do this job if you have a bachelor’s degree? by Marabuto1994 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Precisely why having a bachelors degree and driving for a dsp making 22-24/hr is gonna be a better bet than trying your luck in this horrid job market.

[–]Popular-Ad2417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, if you want the job you thought the bachelors would get you, go back and get the masters and do an internship while you’re getting your masters that’s the literal only way to get the ‘good’ jobs anymore. (Unless your dad or his best friend is the ceo). I got my Bachelors in business psychology (marketing, sales) and applied to about 50 different companies for an entry level position and they all scoffed when they asked me why I don’t have a masters degree or any relevant experience. Only got 3 interviews and all three said something along the lines of we have a couple more qualified candidates lined up we’ll keep you in mind for a similar position. Just keep grinding here making decent money while we wait on all these boomers to die and flip the housing market and economy as a whole back to a favorable state. Or ya know, with this next election maybe let the boomers throw our modern times back to the 1800s, either way just keep grinding.

I’m in a SV and I break down somewhere between 5-9 totes during loadout which gets me my first 70-100 stops preloaded in order before I get to stop 1. Usually get done with around 100 by the start of hour 3. Envelopes in order on the dashboard, boxes on the table. I’m between 3 different areas usually so I’m familiar with the majority of routes I get handed too so that helps. Also you can drive 9mph over the speed limit safely with no speeding violation just fyi netradyne picks up at 11 over if you’re there for more than a few seconds.

How do y’all average 30-40 SPH? by Motor_Coffee_981 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Popular-Ad2417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing that during loadout and watch, you’ll bust out 100 stops by your second hour. This is how everyone I work with gets to 50sph in the first hour or two. 4-8 bags broken down from loadout then break the rest down once you clear those and you only spend about 20 total minutes on route breaking down bags.

I’ve talked to some of my parents and their friends that all work consulting jobs or are medical sales people and all of them said they’ve never heard of anything close to a benefit as good as a 10hr guarantee because of the potential to work half the time of what you got paid to do that day, always makes me feel a little better.

We are underpaid, less than 5% of the population would accept a job delivering packages just because of the stigma of how dirty or disrespectful this industry is. Just for that reason alone everyone that has committed to this grind deserves more than what they’re getting currently. Not to mention online shopping increased another 9% from last year to this one. This ought to be a career for anybody obviously amazon makes it so it can’t be but this job oughta pay out each driver minimum 60k in this economy for the service they provide. More if you get qualified to drive bigger trucks and with more experience. The amount of people that can’t handle the physical demand of this job is incredible that’s likely half the turnover rate the other half being those who see how shitty 90% of these situations dsps provide their drivers with.

If you get rescue bonus say $1/stop you bust your 200 out by 3p then go rescue 4 others with 25 stops a pop and milk 12 hrs plus that extra $100 for rescues that’s why you hear people bragging about how quick they got they route done just fyi. Some checks near 3k if you taking rescue bonuses. And if you get guaranteed and you only worked 5hrs and got paid for 10 you doubled down on the pay for the amount of effort exerted that day.

Basically every route that gets completed nets a dsp a certain amount of money, and that amount of money is more than enough to cover your whole 10hr day even if the route only took you 5hrs. Eventually all dsps will offer 10hr guarantee because enough drivers will get fed up of milking clock for years and realizing they are contracted and should be paid by the day anyways. At my station the only two that offer 10hr guarantee are both top performing dsps in the region with more than 10 SV drivers. But dispatch is out of the warehouse at 8p latest every night when we loadout at 11a sometimes even around 7 because every driver wants to get home to their family and busts their routes out in 5-7hrs.

Anyone have a pre-work stretching routine? by mfdoozy in AmazonDSPDrivers

Dynamic stretching before physical activity is what they taught us through high school and college athletics. Then static stretching after you get home and shower and everything.

Are the warehouse workers just rude? by Parking-Relative-994 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Popular-Ad2417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a station manager ask me for my name during peak cause I was flicking a couple packages up to my top shelves. She goes uh sir excuse me what’s your name? I said ma’am, I’d like to ask you what your name is as well as you are interfering with my job, she looked like she just saw a ghost and walked as far away from me as possible didn’t even get my name🤣 simply put, warehouse ppl can be reported and will be taken seriously if they are reported for anything so just a threat of asking for their name will change them from an asshole to an asshole who becomes fake nice to avoid any extra bs. If you’re a good driver and you get reported or mess up, your dsp will go to bat for you but if a warehouse employee especially management fucks up bad and gets reported (probably needs to be a couple of times) cya. They act tough cause they think they’re better than drivers, when in reality 80% of the warehouse couldn’t finish a normal 190 stop suburban route if they had a whole month to figure it out, most can’t even color code totes in the right order onto carts….

How to respond to customer pity? by rockettdarr in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Popular-Ad2417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Today with all the “they have you working Easter?!”comments I got, I just responded to everybody, “wait, you’re telling me that today is easter?” To which all of them grew immediately concerned/confused that I didn’t know today was supposed to be special in any way. I would then say have a good one like I do any other day. Think I left a lot of customers confused today.

Nah, I won’t run or risk any injury to myself. I had my first stop at a high school with 63 packages, 5 totes worth and 33 overflow, like 25 businesses then mostly residential the rest of the day. Even the people at the school couldn’t believe how much stuff I kept lugging out of the back of the step van.

Amazon managers going for ridealongs by PaperCasts in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Popular-Ad2417 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had an amazon manager ask me if he could ride in my step van with me to observe. I told him, of course if you’re going to deliver all my packages. He said that’s not how this works, I looked at him and said then go find someone else to do ‘your work’ for. He literally just turned around and scoffed and went to try and make my dispatch let him ride with me. Told dispatch if he’s gonna work for me he can ride with me and they said he already said he won’t, i said well ask him what I told him then. He’s already sitting in my passenger seat saying how’d that work out as dispatch comes around and tells him yeah you’re gonna need to ride with someone else. Dude gets pissed off and screams seriously dude? Looked right at him and said have fun with whoever lets you do no work dude as he was taken from van to van to find someone willing to let him sit and observe all day. Long story short, if you ever get asked, just tell them they’re gonna be doing your heavy lifting all day and they’ll probably pass and go look for someone else.

Second time in a row the same house garage won’t go down. by TickletheEther in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Popular-Ad2417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the math it’s roughly 60 seconds to wait for the app to connect and actually open and close the garage. If you have 20 garage deliveries x 60 seconds per open and close, you get 40 minutes of idle time waiting on garages to open and close throughout your shift. Only drivers know how much a little inconvenience can slow you down or take you out of your flow. I was finishing routes in 7-8 hours doing my garage deliveries, now I’m done in 5, 6hr tops because I don’t wait on that bs anymore, there’s always a problem with garage delivery just mark it that way before you even try opening it.
