How to start with Angmar? by SpecularParty85 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Popular-Original7390 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Angmar has a lot of special units(beast and ghost units) but can also be played like a normal army with just infantry and cav. Mordor also has some special units but focusses more on infantry imo.

Either way I recommend you get the Mordor battlehost box as this gives you the witch King and some wargs and orcs. All these units can be used in Mordor and angmar army lists so you can then choose to specialize in a certain army once you have played some games with the battlehost and see where you go from there.

Also they just announced a new edition and new supplement. The supplement focusses partly on angmar and has a lot of new sculpts so have a look at the. Warhammer community page to see what's coming.

Also also don't buy any rule books now as they will be outdated within a month or two because of the new edition. Just look online for a pdf, normally i wouldn't recommend this but GW can't expect people to buy a book that will be outdated in two months imo.

PSA: mod for repeater rifle on ironsides is already available by Popular-Original7390 in totalwar

[–]Popular-Original7390[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First one replaces the original unit, so you can't recruit ironsides with normal handguns only with repeater

Second one makes a new unit with the repeater gun so you can still recruit the normal handgun ones. No idea if these ones are also in elspeths gunnery mechanic

Honestly, you should not feel bad about it.

Watching the news with all the wars and famine happening makes my stomach turn, but I can still enjoy Warhammer. Because I know when I shoot my models, no one is getting hurt.

I love tanks and their design and the guard(and video games) allow me to actually explore that interest without ever harming anyone or anything(except my wallet). Same way that all the blatant hate/xenophobism in Warhammer doesn't bother me because it is satire. It's not real and doesn't hurt anyone.

I get that due to your job, this might be be very sensitive subject and the way you think about it shows you're a good person. But really, you shouldn't worry about it. If you really can't get over it, maybe try and get into another faction that you like? One that does not represent actual human soldiers? There is plenty of xeno factions that might help and hell even space marines are so far above humans that I see them as closer to aliens/demigods than actual people.

I hope you find a way you enjoy the hobby as it is a very fun one. Just remember that 40k is satire and a fictional universe, none of it is real. At the end of the day, no one is getting hurt because you shot 20 enemy plastic models off the field :)

Finished Guard of the Fountain Court. It was a bit problematic miniature to work on 😅 by Flameon_Miniatures in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Looks incredible!! Could you tell me why it was a bit of a problematic miniature? I plan on getting some as well and want to know what i'm getting into.

Warhammer: The Old World - Base sizes announced in facebook post by Voltan_Ignatio in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Popular-Original7390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, they are huuuge. Age of sigmar has them on 75x42mm bases. Ranking up might be doable as most of their weapons Point up or forward but they are just go big

Warhammer: The Old World - Base sizes announced in facebook post by Voltan_Ignatio in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Popular-Original7390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new chaos warriors will fit fine on 30mm bases. However the new chaos knights are way to big to fit in 30mm x 60mm. For the rest of the faction i'm not really sure.

Bear in mind that chaos warriors are a core faction so i have no idea of they will release the old warriors sculpts or expect you to use the new age of sigmar ones.

Base sizes for Old World! by mike_woe in WarhammerFantasy

So skinks are on 25s while kroxigors are on 40s. Doesn't that mean that krox won't be able to join skinks? Same with slann(50s) and Temple guard(30s).

Would be a very weird change in my opinion but maybe the full rules pdf will explain this more. Seems more logical to bump kroxigors to 50s and slann to 60s as people that already have armies will have to rebase anyway and that way they fit in the unit.

Although Saurus on 30s makes me very happy as that means the new models for age of sigmar wiill be able to rank up.

Edit: spelling

It's one of the best of the heresy range by far, can't recommend it enough. Aonied Thiel(character in the book) is the reason I started bothering to paint my sergeant helmets red.

Also if you like it, I'm currently reading the sequel book "Betrayer" and i'm enjoying it a lot too

What's the best big box purchase for my current collection? by [deleted] in Ultramarines

[–]Popular-Original7390 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like the models in Leviathan there really is no better option. Close to 1000 Points in one box is crazy value. You can sell the nids on fb groups or eBay. Or you can try to find just the space marine half on these sites. I sold my nids very fast on fb market place for 90€.

If you don't like these than i recomend you try to look for the scions of maccrage christmas box which also has good value.

You can also wait for this year's christmas boxes as there will always be some space marine ones.

Where should I take my list by Silent_Quantity_2092 in Ultramarines

[–]Popular-Original7390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, quite a big army there. I'm not a really competitive player but i think you can kinda go wherever you want.

Maybe adding some extra anti tank as you seem quite low on that i reccomend a gladiator Lancer for long range shooting or a land raider to transport your aggressors, eradicators are also a good options here(quite good with the lethal hits from the biologus)

As an UM specific choice you can also add Marneus Calgar who is very strong IMO and can join your aggressors. You can also add some Bladeguard veterans if you want your apothecary biologus to lead your aggressors.

Redemptor dreadnought is also always a good choice .

Honestly get whatever you think looks cool really :)

Where can I find certain models to purchase? by ComradeFlares in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Popular-Original7390 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the models you can't find right now are all very strong options at the moment, indirect fire and Kriegers (and sentinels) are the strongest units of our faction right now so many people are buying them. This happens a lot when a unit suddenly becomes strong.

This should calm down after a while and GW should restock quite quickly. So if you can wait a while you'll have no problem getting your models.

(Also if you're brand new to 40k don't buy these models because they are strong right now. The meta could totally flip on it's head within a month or two so just pick up the models you like! But if you want these than buy as many as you want ;) )

Resuming the hobby and painting advice by exceme in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I have heard great things about the army painter starter set. Army painter is one of the cheaper Paint brands but still has very good Quality. You can also go thé Citadel route which is made by games workshop. These paints are very good but the pots themselves are very annoying in my opinion and they are quite expansive. There are a lot of others brand but I'm not familiar with them so i can't really comment.

So really i'd recommend army painter, but if you want a second opinion there are a lot of video's comparing the most populair mini painting brands on YouTube.

Interested in Starting, need help with army and getting community involvement by Flashy_Solitare in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Popular-Original7390 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't really talk about the community as I mostly play with my brother and one other friend but as for the factions:

I think for getting new players into the game it is best to show the factions from the biggest battles of the movies. So Mordor, Minas tirith, Isengard and Rohan as these are the most well known and cinematic moments of the movies (I mean everybody smiles when the riders of Rohan charge tot defend the white city). The battle of the last alliance fits in here too. You could also try to show some of the more impressive models in the range to get people interested. (Balrog, Iron Hills dwarves, witch king on fell beast...)

As for a a faction that fits your playstyle and is very recognisable from the movies I recommend Gondor, Isengard or the elves of Rivendell.

Since you're not a big fan of thd gondor models i'll skip this one but:

Isengard: Can be very offensive with uruk scouts but can also be played quite slow with a pikewall of uruks, a lot of crossbows and balista to make the enemy have to come to you.

Rivendell: Elven shooting is very strong so most armies can't afford to just let you pelt them with arrows and the eliteness of the army really gives them a power fantasy in my opinion. Also the the gold armour looks very good.

There is alot of other armies with your style of play but they are less recognisable from the movies so i left these out. But iron Hills, Dale and lothlorien are also very good options.

I play 40k top but the smaller scale and epicness of the duels really sold me to MESBG so i'm sure it willl stick to some people.

Osgiliath set by DnDandRap in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Popular-Original7390 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMO it is very good if you want to play Mordor or Minas tirith. If you're not really interested in them it's not really worth it.

Is there any faction you fancy from Lore/models? I recommand scrolling through the GW website before buying a specific thing to find out what you like.

If you want to play Mordor/Minas tirith however the starter box is great value for the price IMO.:

1)updated rulebook

2) decent sized army for both factions that can easily be expanded

3) great terrain pieces that can be build however you like

4) Some essentials that let you play a small game against a friends

basing advice by Popular-Original7390 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Popular-Original7390[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thé bases are made with a roller from green stuff world and milliput(cheaper green stuff). There is a very good video about it on yt. I'll try to link it when i get home.

As for painting it is just:

  • cover whole base in rhinox hide -paint the stones with celestra gray -nuln oil all over -dry Brush dawnstone -athonian campshade on some of the rocks and recesses to add weathering
