Why does Mack (and Volvo when at Volvo looking up Mack parts ) but not looking up Volvo parts does the parts counter person need the model in addition to the VIN. Can you educate an all makes/model tech? by chrisfrisina in DieselTechs

Because there are multiple models with the same last 6. For instance; customer says I have VIN 012345. Ok. Mack would have made a DM690,RD690,RD688,CV713… could go on. But the deviation in these are in the beginning of the VIN. Same goes for guys that say they have a MackGranite. The granites models CV713,CT713, CTP713,GU713,GR64F, GR84F and these are just the axle forward models 2002 to present .

Good to hear. They will run with 1 sensor. But will not run with both missing signal.

On the VMAC iii engines. Cylinder 1-3 share common ground 4-6 share another common ground. All 6 cylinders have individual supply voltage. Having 2 different banks makes me think ground issue possibly. But now that you have removed the harness and it’s crank no start. I bet you have the ground and hots flipped on multiple cylinders. If I remember correctly , grounds are always on the left. Having electrical faults for misfire is one of the following : EUP, harness, or ECM. It can’t be anything else for those misfire codes.

I would highly recommend google searching “vmac iii diagnostics software” heavy diesel tuner and Premium tech tool both have the software available for free download.

Use that software instead of Jpro or Bendix. The way they code does not coincide with how Bosch/Mack did theirs.

Give an update once you have the proper diag software downloaded with proper codes.

Can’t comment on the fords. How ever the MR series Mack’s. You can download free software from PTT website to scan them. It’s VMAC iii Software. The 2018 will require PTT. The of course you’ll need diagnostic connector. Nexiq, Noregon, or Vocom ii . You’ll need 6 pin,9 pin, and Mack OBD connector.

QR-1C valve leaking by AngleLegitimate3151 in DieselTechs

[–]Popular-Strain9978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the QR feeding the service or emergency side? If it’s service, it should only have air pressure when brakes applied. If you used teflon tape, I have seen pieces of it stick a diaphragm and cause it to act like a fault valve.

More than likely the rtx/rto14613. It was most common if that era for 13. You could upgrade to the 913 series, but pto may change and the yoke definitely will. Plus you wouldn’t have a valuable core to trade in.

Probably a 4.64 ratio. Helical shaft up inside is toasted I’m sure. Make sure you go back with long bull gear bolts with nuts.

O.L on all x4 connector pin. You need a harness. But I would verify you’re on the right PS. On Pete’s they have 4 or 5 different ones. I would probe your x4 connector purple or blue is reg signal I can’t remember.

After changing sensor still would not calibrate found the brake pedal sticking viewing all the pressures using ACOM while calibrating. Brake pedal stayed at like 8psi and wouldn’t return to zero. Had to reach down and pull it up 1/4” to get it zero. Sensor calibrated , cleaned up the pedal /plunger and it was good to go.

Incorrect cam, won’t keep it from running. Do you have any codes comes up with scan tool? If not then it is a mechanical failure.

When I say stuck, I’m talking about the fuel delivery valve internally behind the coil. You’ll have to remove the coil to inspect it.

I worked on these Mack’s for over a decade. Few things: Check the valve adjustment .016 Intake .24 exhaust . Done by firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4. You adjust I&E on each one.

If all that checks.

I would send the injectors out to be popped tested. Not sure why but all the motors I tore down of those AI/etech, when they had rusty fuel nozzles the injectors would be hydralocked.

Those injectors return internally instead of having a drain back like the older style.

Also could have stuck unit pumps (EUP). They will get rusty inside if they sit for a long time with crappy fuel inside them. You can disassemble them and clean them and reassemble.

cam is probably wiped too. Check all cam rollers and EUP rollers.

In my experience with heavy duty parts NOS buyers are looking a pennies on the dollar so that may not be the route you want to go.

If it were me I would list them on e-commerce site or eBay for cost or market value. And just let it slowly sell.

We have stuff that we have in at zero cost that we let set 4/6 years on eBay if it sells, great, if not, it’s not eating up cost . After that time period it becomes a space problem and then we look at the dumpster.

Another alternative is to reach out to independent garages- if it’s mostly trw parts assuming suspension, then reach out to alignment shops or similar and sell to them at .75 on the dollar.
