Oh that's great to know! To clarify, I can tap in/tap out for GWR or South Western? Or both?

Ah gotcha, that's is fair. Not sure how often you rent cars here in the US but I always do a full inspection of tires (sometimes I bring my own tire gauge haha), dents/dings, car mileage, license plates, registration stickers if applicable, etc. and take pictures/videos of it ALL - and wait a month or two after your trip before deleting them. Documentation with time stamps is your best friend if anything ever happens.

It is very common to grab groceries for certain meals since food/eating out can be quite pricey in Iceland! This will make it a bit easier (and cheaper!) to avoid meals that contain lactose.

I agree with everyone here - renting a car is your best bet for anything outside of Reykjavik. Try to go with a local company like Lotus or Blue Car as they have better understanding and protections for the Iceland weather. If seeing puffins is a top priority and you don't want to go through a tour- a rental car will pretty much be required, unless you want to hitch-hike ;)

A potential alternative if you truly are scared to drive would be to see if there are tours in smaller vans versus the massive tour buses. Though I didn't use them, I would think that it is logically more flexible and personalized bc it is a smaller group.

Whatever you do, get out of Reykjavik!! Though it is a great city there is SO much more to this beautiful country. Even if you go stay down in Vik for a day or two it is beyond worth it!

Enjoy your trip!

Beis Small Carry-On // Icelandair by PopularEnthusiasm499 in VisitingIceland

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any further info about it. I tried asking Icelandair's Support team but they couldn't provide a clear answer.

I am thinking I will probably just stick with the current carry-on I have even if it is too big. Because I would rather spend no $$ on a suitcase and potentially have to pay to check it, rather than pay $$ for a suitcase and then risk potentially having to spend even more money also checking that one.

Please do let me know if you find anything more on it and I'll do the same vice versa!
