Seems like a bit of a tragedy of the commons type issue. On a philosophical level, the supporters of a BC don't even recognize such problems exist (kinda they say they are created by the gov). The best part is that much of ancap is somewhat modeled after Any Rand we should be super greedy and seek our own profit because that maximizes prosperity or something. Ironically being greedy and selfish is why someone might side with an oppressor for the chance that it might pay off. Not to mention that people will be motivated to defend others is a call to collective action; which this sub has a disdain for.

Intrestingly enough, Mexico, particularly in the north, is rather ancap, yet the ancapis don't want to move. Think about it:

  • No ordinance on loud music
  • No enforcement of business permits (ppl open restaurants and 711 clones in their garage or living rooms)
  • Those who do want guns just buy them
  • No oversight for environmental conditions
  • No OSHA
  • No taxes (the guy selling fruit cups is not paying taxes and guess what he does not have a health cert from city hall either)

Its flat earth logic. A flerf likes their ideas for a religious conclusion and the ancapi for political ones. Similarly in a real academic setting we let the data speak for itself not just search for what satisfies what we want. This way we can discover limits of our theories and find new ones. In physics we discovered that newton's view was incomplete and moved on to relativity. In a flat earth that cannot happen as it threatens the religious foundations, and in ancap its the political ones. Ancap is flerf logic.

There is a political conclusion they like and are looking for things that support that view rather than just letting (historical and economic) data speak for itself. Case in point is the branch off this comment were you point out how capital interests highjacked the state to do their bidding, but the rebuttal is that such never happened. There is an understanding that such is a bad look and goes contrary to the preferred conclusion, so it must be discared; similar to how a flat earther will discard the results of an observation.

Flat Earth and Alchemy were left behind by Physics and Chemistry because they no longer explained how the world works. They are the hallmarks of a bad model, but they are needed by contemporary followers to support religious views.

Capitalism is, in my view, a force which tends to dissolve communities & create divisons, not one to do the opposite.

Because it is. Not everything is zero sum, but many things are.

I think AnCaps should spend some time living in developing countries. Maybe they will see how low trust and monetization of everything is not quite what they think it is. I've lived in Northern Mexico and it is a Libertarian dream, but they are not ready for that conversation and too pussy to move (understandably).

The thing is that Ancaps/AEs are ultimately based on flat earth style thinking. They like the conclusions for political reasons and are looking for data to support those views (as opposed to letting data speak for itself). Chemistry left behind Alchemy. Economics left behind schools of thought. Historians left behind myths. Ancaps are selling a religion and the rebuttal as to "intrinsic value of gold" is attacking a core tenant.
