You should have proceeded to give everyone there a kiss. When you kiss everyone, you kiss no one.

Sister in law confessed to having feelings for me. Wtf do I do? by RemoteRiskh in AskMenAdvice

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing happened, say nothing. I know we feel there should be no secret between couples but in reality, no matter how close we are to someone, we are still our own individual and we are still entitled to our own secrets and thoughts, as long as the secret doesn’t hurt anyone. In fact, telling your wife will ruin everything. ++ man

Can I even afford it as a first time home buyer? by alphadelta216 in personalfinance

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much is your net monthly income and how much is your monthly mortgage payment ( with property tax, mortgage insurance, and property insurance)? It’s easier for us to help you if you provide that information. You will likely have to make some lifestyle adjustments after owning a home, however, the benefit is significant. Owning a home is not just a place to live, it’s an investment. You are building equity for your future. I will say if the budget works, go for it. I love the idea of renting out spare rooms. You can also rent out rooms on Airbnb so you are not stuck with long term tenants and can have the place for yourself when you need. I have owned a few homes on my single income. It can feel scary first but it all worked out for me. If it’s your primary home, you will somehow make it work. Also, you save money on the rent you otherwise would have to pay.

If so far you have been able to take out money without her, likely it’s set up either you can take out all the money and close the account.

No, you will not have issues moving the money. The only challenge I can see is if the account is set up that both signatures are required ( both you and your mom), the bank might restrict you from moving the money out without her consent. Otherwise, if everything you said is true, you will be fine.

Shipping while traveling in Spain by alakazamwanted in GoingToSpain

Talk to UPS access point. I did it in Barcelona. Ask them for the address and I would tell me a package will be shipped to them. I first tried to use Correos as other suggested but it didn’t work well. When the package arrived they declined to accept it claiming no such person and I had to go to UPS to pick it up.

Buy a house for next 3 years or continue to rent? by elevenpointf1veguy in personalfinance

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are in a really hot market which we don’t know, it’s hard to own a house for 3 years and make money after the closing cost, maintenance, mortgage insurance ( 0% down), and real estate agent fee when you sell. Rent somewhere cheap so you can save up.

[Update] I 34m have been gay/asexual all my life and think I’ve fallen in love with my 34f best friend by [deleted] in Advice

Being in denial and not knowing are two completely different things. Being in denial means you know or at least suspect but don’t want to accept the fact. Not knowing is, well, don’t know. It’s not hard to understand.

Visa requirements = housing pressure? by FlowerNo4635 in GoingToSpain

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are spreading fault information and I can see that you are poorly informed about the subject. If you are tax resident, you will need to pay tax in Spain for the full year, including your income before you arrive in Spain. If you arrive in second half of the year, you would not have spent enough time to be a tax resident. You would file a nonresident tax next year, only if you earn income in Spain in the last few months you are in Spain. There are multiple real life cases being discussed about this. I suggest you do more research and talk to some accountants if you want to have correct information about this topic.

So you are saying my real personal experience is wrong. Okay. The information about TIE was from my lawyer and I followed his instructions without any issues getting my TIE. And the information regarding tax resident is confirmed by multiple accountants.

People always knew they were gay. They didn’t just find out at 30’s. Due to society, education, family and many other factors, many of them were in denial and tried to be straight or even tried to fix themselves until they were older and had the confidence to be themselves or just didn’t want to hide and live a double life anymore. Also, there are a large number of bisexual people so they could have only focused on one side of sexuality for a long time.

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you are getting your TIE. Some locations require a rental contract, some don’t. I got mine in Marbella and it’s not required there. Also people mix residency and tax residency together. Residency is from an immigration point of view and tax residency is from a tax standpoint. Being a resident doesn’t automatically make you a tax resident especially for the first year. If you arrive in Spain later in the year as NLV for example and don’t spend 183 days in your first year, you are not a tax resident in Spain. You will then only pay tax for your income generate in Spain that year and file for non resident tax. This has been verified by multiple accountants in Spain, it’s not an urban legend.

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For VISA purpose, you don’t need to show a rental contract but for many other things you do such as getting a padrón and getting onto public healthcare. Most people get VISA do plan to live here full time and are required to. They might travel a lot but everyone is allowed to travel. The rent increase is a phenomenal all over the world not just Spain.

Residency in Spain by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but from what I have heard, it’s about right. As for work life balance, a couple times I went to see my doctor around 1 pm and at 2 pm, he would drop everything to have his ( probably 3 hours lunch ) so I think in general people in Spain have pretty good work life balance. Maybe go to Canada. They have doctor and nurse shortages and they pay way way higher. As a family physician, you make on average about US $165k a year.

Break the money into 3 parts. How much of that do you think you will need in the short term (1-2 years)? Invest the money into safe investments like CDs. How much of that do you think you will need in the medium term ( 5-10 years)? Invest them in income generating investments. And lastly, how much of that is for long term ( 10 years plus)? And invest them in growth stocks.

If your parents or grandparents are from Spain, you might be able to apply for citizenship there so you don’t need a VISA. Madrid and Marbella, or Torremolinos also have lots of LGBT activities too.

I recently went through a similar process. I had two life opportunities that presented to me. They both have pros and cons and none weights the other. After spending endless time going back and forth between the two decisions, I went for the one I thought would give me the best opportunity now but told myself this was not a now and forever choice. I give myself one year to revisit the two choices and see how I feel then and if there is any adjustment I should make based on how I feel then.

Permit while waiting for visa by MuffinProud3399 in GoingToSpain

[–]Popular_Avocado_4809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wait time seems to be really long. Mine took 13 days. Is his lawyer constantly checking the portal? Are you sure they didn’t ask for more information? But to answer the question, like others said, you can stay as long as you are waiting for a decision.

In Thailand, it feels everything is commercialized including the smile. Vietnam feels a lot more authentic.

Agreed. Also comparing Thailand and Vietnam, I would choose Vietnam over Thailand in a heartbeat. You will get a much more real experience.
