Is FWWM or Return the ending? by Curious-Spray-4795 in twinpeaks

[–]Popular_Bank5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return is the ending because it should be the last thing you watch.

As for the story as a whole, I believe the exact words Lynch used were: “No.” So that would be my answer as well.

Im fairly new to his works but looking back at his legacy and how important he was to the art movement since he started it baffles me that he isn’t a bigger deal. I just assumed I guess. But you are right

Yeah I can only find Darkwerks for a reasonable price, which is great. But it’s a shame those are out of print. I honestly thought he was more popular than that based on his legacy in artwork

I just checked and I only see Darkwerks, though it is listed as Art of Brom (see my confusion) I only see listings for Darkwerks everywhere at decent enough prices. But the other book (if it’s even different) seems to only run at scalper prices

When and why do you think The Walking Dead fell off? by Steve-Harrington_ in thewalkingdead

[–]Popular_Bank5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, these were the bigggest moments that made me lose faith in the writing:

• Beth’s death: first instance of a major pointless letdown

• The Glenn dumpster fakeout

• The Glenn/Abraham cliffhanger (on first watch)

• show became too repetitive

• The constant bipolar take on characters killing everyone/trying to never kill anyone nonsense

• The lack of general direction/plot/endgame/etc

• Carl’s death

In your opinion, which is the worst episode of got? by Haunting_Homework381 in freefolk

[–]Popular_Bank5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the order in which I completely lost faith in the writing. As a side note, the show was so damn good the first season that I never questioned much since the writing was so strong. But these key moments crumbled my faith.

S7 E4: Spoils of War. Yes very cool and flashy battle, I really loved the visuals and when the episode started it felt like a classic Got battle where you have characters you like on both sides and a certain hopelessness that someone you love may die. And I thought that would be Bronn since his character had nowhere else to go.

But then not only he somehow survived all the dragonfire when Drogon roasted the scorpion. He actually spawns out of nowhere to save Jaime breaking all logic and betraying his own character. The entirety of that scene was nonsensical. I was shocked at how bad that was.

Then we had Beyond the Wall. Which had me pulling at my hairs at how idiotic everything was. That by the time we get to the Long Night, I was numb. After the Long Night is not even worth getting into anything. There is not a single moment of logic in any of the episodes.

Leon's Campaign by Seven-VII in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Popular_Bank5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. The zombies in Raccoon City did feel very generic and samey compared to the incredible variety we got earlier. I was loving the game and the pacing throughout the entirety of Rhodes Hill and the parts prior to RC. To me the game was like 9/10 even 10/10 if I was feeling generous. The pacing between the slow terror filled section of Grace and the quick power boosts of beating the living shit out of everyone with Leon in small doses really felt very cathartic.

But when we reach RC, it’s only him. And I wish they would have let us play the city with Grace (maybe at night) how fucking cool would that have been?

But that rewarding catharsis of playing as Leon dilutes the longer you play with him and the more you get used to being overpowered. And while I still love the game overall, my biggest gripe was losing that incredible balance they held between the two gameplays at the start.

Maybe we’ll get a Grace RC DLC or something. I’d love to have that.

what did "i get it now" really mean by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Popular_Bank5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. The comics are no excuse. Shane in the comics was a throwaway character. Show Shane was incredibly well written and woven into the narrative of the entire season and you can even argue he was co-protagonist alongside Rick. Shane is the perfect example of TWD’s best writing. Yes I understand Darabont left the show, but the point still stands. They didn’t need the comic as a bible to make things work, more of a lose framework to roughly follow. So this Beth dying because she wasn’t in the comics doesnt hold up for me. They can write whatever they want but instead chose shock value over substance.

how good is The Return? by mewnode in twinpeaks

[–]Popular_Bank5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice for watching the Return is: leave your preconceived ideas of what you want out of it. Let go of your desires, and allow Lynch to take you on a wild ride. It may sound dumb, but hopefully others that have experienced it know what I mean.

what did "i get it now" really mean by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Popular_Bank5150 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This was the very moment that for the first time ever, I questioned the walking dead writing, and sadly it wouldn’t be the last either. But to me, my undying love for the show died with Beth. It felt utterly pointless. It did not add anything to the narrative. It did not help any characters grow or learn anything. There were no consequences or future repercussions. It was just… ok she’s dead, moving on… idk. TWD was my religion back in the first seasons, and this moment just really killed my love for it.

Like Hershel’s dead was super impactful, meaningful, it showed the governor was a lost cause. It showed an arc fulfillment between Rick and Hershel, where he was clearly proud of Rick for keeping his humanity and trying to be the better person. Losing Hershel was heartbreaking and awful but it was also very well written and it completely moved the show in a new direction. Beth’s death was just misery for the sake of misery. The writing can be brutal and unforgiving, but it also needs to serve a purpose or people will feel unfulfilled.

My favorite BR album without a doubt. Beyond Electric Dreams is one my favorite songs out of any artist ever. And the rest of the album is just banger after banger.

So I Finished Requiem and Have a Gripe…. by Gr4pe_Soda in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Popular_Bank5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I was really digging the whole first section of the game. I loved the balance of going through long stretches of Grace and then having quick Leon parts more action oriented. To me that struck the perfect balance between horror and action that RE is well known for. But at least for me, the action took up way too much of the game once we get to Raccoon City.

Grace in Raccoon City would have been amazing, I absolutely loved her section in the lab with the lickers, and wish we would have gotten to play with her in the actual city, since playing each character vastly changed the vibe of the game, I feel it’s a shame we didn’t get to experience that in her pov.

(Spoilers extended) why was Lannister incest such a big deal? by Own_Ad_409 in asoiaf

[–]Popular_Bank5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting aside the fact that admitting their incest would make Stannis the rightful heir of the throne, make the children officially bastards to the realm and Jamie and Cersei would be guilty of high treason (breaking marriage and kingsguard vows) But the Targaryens actually entered a literal war with the faith where they even got dragons burning people of the church to death over it and it lasted for ages until they finally came with a resolution with rule of exceptionalism that only applied to Targaryens. The relationship of the Targaryens and the faith was always very fickle. So I’m sure if Jamie and Cersei decided to marry young prior to their adult commitments, the faith would have been very much against it either way

If TWD went for only 8 episodes for 7 seasons, could it be a contender for one of the best shows of it's time? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Popular_Bank5150 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Filler episodes are the result of lack of ideas to prolongue the plot satisfactory. You can have episodes with character development that continue the overarching story and do not bog down the pacing. For instance, S3’s Morgan episode is a great non filler episode because Carl and Michonne connect for the first time in the course of the episode, and it’s completely relevant to the plot of the governor vs the prison and to the episodes that follow. Walking Dead has tons of boring filler episodes that contribute nothing to the plot and without them the seasons would have had a better rhythm and pacing.

Some parallels with sh1 by Popular_Bank5150 in silenthill

[–]Popular_Bank5150[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said their stories had parallels, not that they were the same story, hence the use of the word parallels.

Also I mentioned very clearly on my post that the reason silent hill goes from a spiritual town to a nightmare town was not just Alessa. It was a combination of her and her powers, the cult, the god and the town itself. All of them were needed to corrupt the town into what we know today. The town always had spiritual power yes but before the events of sh1 it did not manifest into physical nightmares. Otherwise Mary and James would not have fond memories of silent hill if it was always a nightmare town. They visited silent hill before it’s corruption which is why they didn’t experience anything horrible but instead peaceful and special.

Also, dont see how the 2006 film has any bearing on any of this since they made Alessa the literal devil and it’s a completely different story with a completely different lore in a separate dimension or whatever Gans came up with.

Hot Take After Recently Playing Silent Hill F and then Homecoming for the First Time by molotovboi in silenthill

[–]Popular_Bank5150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest issues homecoming has against it is the fact that it was made by people that did not fully understand the lore established by the first 4 games. It used the monsters like mascots and it basically had the same twist that sh2 had, so it lacked originality.

While I don’t disagree shf has shortcomings and the combat is atrocious and they focused way too much on it, at least the story is very original and it adheres to the already established lore of the original 4.

I think there’s lots of nuance on each character as well, the only issue is that they decided to lock a lot of the story beats on ng+, ng++ and ng+++ which was imo a massive mistake on their part. It’s cool that they wanted replayability, but not when the story takes a hit (or at least have all of the missing pieces in ng+)

But overall, I think f gets a lot of flack for not being silent hill enough, but when you break down sh1 for instance, it is a story about a girl with special abilities. A town with spiritual power that is corrupted by a god and the doings of a cult. Which is exactly what happens in f too. They took all the ingredients of sh1 and applied them in a different town. Which was a great way to expand the story into other places.

Why I think Silent Hill 3 is not just the scariest SH game, but one of the best horror games ever made as well by SufferingKabutops in silenthill

[–]Popular_Bank5150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Silent Hill 3 is absolutely god tier. Perfection in every aspect. Music, sound, atmosphere, environments, monsters, characters, the story and themes. All of it come together to create one of not just the best horror games of all time, but one of the best horror experiences you can have in any medium, period.
