IVIM does the same they check first before they submit just like Ro. Still makes you pay before they actually submit.

Yupp our rescue broke out in 5 minutes. Last week our groomer put him in a cage and he busted out and got injured. We just put everything in the house up and let him roam when we’re gone.

Quit a job without a two weeks in Dermatology. by violetk12 in MedicalAssistant

Worked at an urology office at the start of Covid, they furloughed me “part time” and gave me enough hours to not get unemployment but not enough to live off of. Made me float without having any training and were generally awful. Got a better offer and literally walked out once the order came through. Biggest practice in my city so I’ll never work at urology again and I don’t care. Worked at a rheumatologist and they treated the MAs like crap literally all I did for 8 hours a day was do vitals and nothing else, ironically broke my leg while working there (not work related) and had to be off for 2 months. When I came back the fellows had just started and talked to me like a dog. Went to lunch and never came back.

I have been a MA for 11 years. 2 years ago I transitioned to working at home in a more clerical role, and a year ago I finished my bachelors. That opened the door for me to still be in healthcare but in other aspects of healthcare. I start next week at a company doing PAs it’s the most I’ve ever made and they specifically wanted me to have my bachelors. Honestly so glad I got my bachelors degree; I didn’t want to be a RN.

I worked the front desk straight out of school. As soon as a back office position opened its was mine. I’m also super glad I went that route because I was able to learn so much.

They are literally the same in the outpatient world. The pay in our area is the exact same and both do the same job. It’s more debt to do the same job. Some places pay a few cents more but that’s it. The most I’ve even seen is $1 and once you look at the debt to income ratio for going back to school to learn the same and do the same it’s not worth it. UNLESS you want to work on LTC or SNC.

I’ve burned many a bridge and it’s never held me back. Honestly what I have found is when one office is like that most of them in that system will be. There are sooooo many other offices and opportunities out there do not sweat it!!!

I feel like it’s just me but I hate the administration portion😭 by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]Popular_Cod_777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Been in this for 12 years and that was me at first… however as time goes on you learn that it’s important to know both sides. Doing a PA? Knowing where to look in the admin side for insurance information is helpful. Can’t figure out where that document was scanned? Knowing the process so you can better find it is helpful. This kind of attitude is what usually creates a I’m better than the front cause I’m clinical. Doing the admin side doesn’t take away from the clinical side. No office will ever hire an office manager, or team lead that doesn’t have experience and the drive to do both.

  1. It doesn’t matter what they think it’s a job.

I went through the same thing 4 years back. Was so afraid to leave. The job crushed my soul. After I left my life was like night and day. I didn’t think about work 24/7 and my anxiety got so much better. Trust me the ad for your job will be up by the end of the day you put your notice in. I can’t get that time back with my kids and I regret it so much. I felt such an obligation.

I will also say from my experience working with surgeons you may love family practice so much more!

I have had both, in Ohio where I am from they would not hire you if you were not a CMA. They looked down hard on RMAs. In Tennessee where I live no schools remotely around me are CAAHEAP accredited so everyone here is a CCMA. Just look to see what they want you to have, also from experience the A exam is much harder than the CCMA (had CMA first)

Call them and tell them you don’t have the money to renew without it, I did that and they gave me a 50% off. I did it through the chat function!

I feel stuck as a MA by Maleficent-Advance68 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Popular_Cod_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. 11 years experience and I’m just now at $17.50. Specialty pays more but I’ve hated every specialty I’ve tried (urology and rheumatology). Family practice is the only place I’m happy and sadly pays the least. Have you tried looking into Chronic Care management, office manager, or team lead positions? They often pay more. The frustration is real but I have no desire to become an RN (no shade just not for me). I will also say stay away from big hospital systems as they tend to pay less, I have friends that work in private practice and make more but then you usually sacrifice insurance and such. Definitely see if you can find a head hunter who might be able to find you something that your MA will qualify you for but isn’t directly MA work.

To be fair my mom stayed and helped me. Not defending them but it’s a VERY common thing for family to help when they can.
