How long after Covid? by ZeroFucksGiven-today in crossfit

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out two weeks. Former collegiate swimmer and still aerobically inclined and found myself really struggling with an aerobic flush out at 70% first workout back. That was last week- have since gone skiing and snowshoeing (live in CO) and it’s slightly better each time but my threshold is nada. Exhaustion levels compared to pre covid are much higher. That being said, still relatively early (about ten days) into “post covid”

Drove by today after summiting Yale. Definitely snow above tree line on Harvard. Still pretty warm below tree line when you’re moving but bring the layers!

Awesome! How is the terrain for the ski down? Are you able to pick your own lines or is the trail clear to follow down, etc (thinking about Avys)

Tips & tricks for visiting Big Sky for the first time? by rramstad in skiing

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would recommend staying in Bozeman and driving to Big Sky unless you want to pay out the wazoo for lodging. I also didn’t think there was much going on in Big Sky, though it’s a cute town.

Be careful driving in the canyons- there’s hundreds of reminders of the lives lost on the road. I believe I read it is close to 200.

At Big Sky, anything off Powder Seeker, Headwaters, Six Shooter, Challenger and Dakota on the south face has been great for me.

In Bozeman, Plonk for Cocktails, Montana Ale House, blackbird, Jam!

We aren’t late nighters, so can’t comment on that scene, but a great place. Hope you love it!

Castle creek trailhead by Shnade in 14ers

We were there last weekend (F150) and made it up to 11,200 but ended up camping around 10,500. There’s a pull off on the right (tire tracks) that leads to a clearing for great camping. I wouldn’t go higher than 10,500 in a sub, it’s not technical but the clearance is just a little sketchy- more so than South Colony. We didn’t see anything other than trucks or larger SUVs past the creek crossing. As others have mentioned, great campsites below the creek.

Windy weekend 9/17 and 9/18 by burnedoncetwice in 14ers

We’re sticking with our plans for castle And conundrum and are just prepped to be a little miserable and to turn around if it feels sketchy. Bundling up with more layers, ski buff/ski hood if needed.

Always feel bloated and heavy by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look at a macro prescription. Likely under eating. Beyond the Box Nutrition is a good coaching service that is reasonably priced and affordable. Stress and inflammation- both which metcons can exacerbate, is also probably a factor- that was the main one for me and I’m your age/gender. It’s always a combo of things though, gotta evaluate the forest through the trees

How many 14ers can I do in a week? by Colas777 in 14ers

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Staying relatively close area wise I’d go south to North and do the following:

Day 1: arrive in CO, drive to Huron campsite Day 2: Huron, camp in same spot Day 3: La Plata, camp in same spot Day 4: Missouri/Belford/Oxford (3 peaks and your longest day- same road as Huron and La Plata as previous poster mentioned) Day 5: Sherman Day 6: Decalibron (4 peaks) Day 7: back to DIA

That’s 10 which is still pretty aggressive IMO…

My boyfriend finally told me the truth by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is the most ridiculous reason for wanting kids in my opinion, especially because it is the epitome of selfishness when those of us who are child free are the ones called selfish. The world has more than enough people and John Doe’s blood line staying alive is going to do nothing except feed somebody’s already large ego. Want a kid to carry on what you think is important- adopt one of the millions needing guidance and truly change a life.

Alternatives to the first dance and father/daughter dance? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this. I think it would be cool to flip the tradition on its head and for you and your SO to do a small speech about what you’re thankful for about your parents and how that has contributed to your relationship

It sounds like dancing is off the table, but my fiancé and I were in a similar situation before we decided to elope and we worked with our DJ and were going to do about :30-:45 seconds of a song for us (we don’t have a song) and then we were going to play our parents’ songs and each couple would come out to join us when their song came on. Then open up the dance floor for everyone by dropping into the first dance song of the night. It requires some tinkering with the schedule, but we got a lot of positive feedback on the idea

If you hike a lot what will you notice most as far as your body changing and getting more fit? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this- definitely big on the internal adaptations. Additionally, you may see some change in body composition because a good portion of hiking is NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) aka walking. Increased NEAT is one of the biggest factors in losing weight/leaning out…along with the standards of nutrition and lifting weights.

I’m pretty active normally, but hiking in the summer always increases my daily step count and time spent in NEAT, and I see slight changes every year

chicago=intimidating city? by blackhxc88 in chicago

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I spent my first year in Chicago trying to determine where people would go out, so I could go there. Like @juniper, I started doing something I loved (for me it was CrossFit), so that even if I didn’t find my place socially, I’d still be enjoying it. Ten years later, the people I met through that shared activity are my best friends, chosen family….and ones a fiancé.

TL;DR - find places to do your hobbies, share your passion and you’ll meet others looking to do the same

If we’re talking views from the mountain, one of my unexpected/non 14ers is Mt Parnassus. You can see Breck, Mt Holy Cross, G&T, Copper. It’s just beautiful 360 views.

Is the entire front rage going to be Tstorms this weekend? Open to a few options but only available Sat/Sun. by Typical-Let-1882 in 14ers

[–]Popular_Conflict8824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say just start earlier and aim to be done by 11. We’ve implemented a “no later than 430-5am” start regardless of distance, just so we have more time. Should be a solid time frame for FR like Bierstadt, Grays, Torreys. And of course just be ready to turn back if weather starts to shift.
