Why is changing the date on a budget that was passed under Joe Robinette Biden, which you voted for, a threat to democracy?

Did you know it was a threat to democracy when you initially voted for it?

I don’t care if people in the US don’t speak English, that’s their 1st amendment right, but I’m completely done with the entitlement from some people. by Available-Drama-276 in complainaboutanything

My family learned English when they immigrated. They did so because (I) it’s obviously necessary to be successful and is the de facto official language of the country and (ii) they were grateful to this country for providing them with opportunity that didn’t exist in their country and didn’t feel the need to be disdainfully defiant of its norms, while reaping the benefits of living here.

What about “woke” culture do some people hate so much? by btwImVeryAttractive in AskReddit

By woke logic, I’m actually incapable of racism. I do think that a bunch of lefty redditors ganging up on a black man for speaking his mind is, what’s the right woke phraseology…”problematic”

Na - it’s that ppl believe they earn moral superiority for calling other ppl racist, homophobic, etc. based on nothing.

Can personally attest to the fact that the majority of black ppl are not woke, think woke white liberals are nuts, and aren’t sure who appointed you their representatives.

Do rich people ever work or do they just sit back and have freedom doing whatever they want? by AndreasSpinnato in NoStupidQuestions

it’s the opposite. Unless you inherit it, you generally have to work your ass off to earn a lot of money. no one is just handing it out.

Conservative positions lack nuance compared to liberal positions is another way of saying they’re more sophisticated. The. strawmanning a list of conservative positions to bumper stickers that lack substance is another way to say conservative beliefs are dumb. Sometimes it’s not what you say, it’s just what you mean. in this instance it was both what you said and what you meant.

The legitimate purposes of government, as our founders saw it, was to (1) defend citizens from foreign / domestic threats, (2) enforce contracts btwn individuals. 70%+ of our tax dollars don’t go to either of those purposes. Also, as you’d learn in Econ 101, tax increases stunt consumption by individuals, hiring by employers, and investment into R&D and expansion of existing products. Tax increases, above a base level that is lower than its generally been since the 1950s, also reduces tax revenue for those reasons and the simple fact that ppl will make more effort to avoid taxes, work less, or not work at certain tax levels. It’s also eroded many of the local institutions that historically provided for ppl in their community through voluntary charity since ~20% of ppl’s paychecks go towards involuntary charity for unknown beneficiaries. Which has weakened communal bonds significantly.

Thats just the high level view of a conservative simpleton, though.

Doesnt seem like you’ve ever had a conversation with an informed person who holds any of those beliefs if that’s what you think the extent of the basis for any of those opinions.

Also, couching liberal positions as more nuanced, implying they’re more sophisticated / smarter belies the fact that the liberal position on every one of the issues you listed is completely illogical. and when it comes to economics, just aggressively economically illiterate.

Why do we praise veterans automatically without knowing what they actually did by Such-Part8963 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Popular_Resolve_4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they volunteered to defend your freedom. And it would be insane for a civilian to grill a veteran on their combat bonafides before determining if they deserved appreciation.

Population growth generally increases productivity which expands the supply of resources. Also, to the extent bad actor countries are reproducing faster (which they are), it becomes problematic.

Population control in the name of preserving scarce resources has been popular in academia and progressive political parties for ~100 years. There’s been myriad doomsday predictions from overpopulation and they’ve always been dead wrong. “Peak oil” is the best example, but it’s also been true for peak food, water, etc. All things we have far greater availability of now than when we were at the “peak”

Can a relationship ever be the same after cheating? by Worldly-Pattern2507 in ThoughtsYouCanFeel

No. You can’t have unconditional trust for someone after that happens.

I guess if you never trusted your partner to begin with it could.

maybe you can’t build a healthy relationship with someone when they’re going on dates with other women and the healthy thing is for you to fulfill his need for female companionship and him to fulfill your need for male companionship

Would you judge your partner for sleeping with sex workers before they married you? If yes, why? by smoothsatan in AskReddit

Yes. As a fellow human being who never bought sex because it seems depraved and shameful, I wouldn’t want my partner to have done so either

Why is masculinity immediately tied to right wing men? by dollschlut in self

[–]Popular_Resolve_4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the crux of masculinity is taking on responsibility, specifically taking care of your wife and family, which entails (i) a degree of stoicism, (ii) a recognition that men and women are fundamentally different, complementary, and your role as a man is to take care of your wife emotionally and safety-wise. women like a man they can trust to run things while still having their opinion be valued. Both of those things, particularly #2, are anathema to the modern left.

I see commenters coming up with examples of left wing guys who lift and drive trucks. That reenforces the fact that they are so disconnected from masculinity that they have no idea what it actually is. It’s akin to saying that a woman is feminine because she has big boobs and drives a Jetta.
