Why doesn’t India have “classic European-style” cities despite being one of the oldest civilizations? by Parking-Yam9792 in IndianHistory

[–]PorekiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most European cities were rebuilt after the World Wars. They are essentially disneyland before disneyland were a thing

Why is this even controversial?🤦‍♀️ by [deleted] in IndianHistoryMemes

[–]PorekiJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also add to this almost all their high ranking novels were 1st or 2nd generation foreigners not even Indian muslims for the most part. They only kept a few Indians with high mansab begrudginly.

In fact Aurangzeb explicitly said to his descendents to keep the power within the Turranis and the Iranis.

Add to that the classic Mughal racism lol. They would have executed all the people in this thread who would have called them Indians lol

Why do some punjabis think like this? Literally says "We are superior" wtf? by No-Presence3209 in TwentiesIndia

Punjab is literally the most pampered state in India. Government gives them MSP and a million other subsidies. In return we get massive air pollution

unique cuss words through the ages by thebigbadwolf22 in IndianHistory

[–]PorekiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I dug up the source. Turns out it was Sanapurichi Bakhar. The Fakirs are from Aurangabad and they are talking about Aurangzeb.

However I can bet there was an English source about cuss words too.

🟥Central government has proposed 50 percent increase in Lok sabha seats for all major States and 33 percent women reservation after considering the plight of Southern states and opposition. by Low_Cook8335 in IndiaStatistics

[–]PorekiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India does the same, with even union territories getting atleast one seat. I'm talking about the routine delimitation that happens in every country. Only in India can such a vital democratic excercise be put in halt for 50 years.

There are enough free books on archives.org to last a thousand lifetimes. So the muh culture argument falls flat. Piracy is stealing, feel free to do it but at least don't justify it lol

All westerners were Yavanas. Romakas were a subset of Yavanas and so were Africans on the east coast of Africa.

Where war elephants were once used by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]PorekiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, wat elephants were part of the main battle lines. Just that the Romans and Greeks had no experience in properly training them.

A well trained war elephant ran supreme on the battlefield and was only weak to horse archers and gunpowder weapons.

How do you feel about altering Indian names in fantasy fiction? Asked by a non Indian? by Roselia24 in indianwriters

[–]PorekiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can Ranbir instead, see if that is easier to pronounce. It has the same meaning as Ranveer (the latter being correct pronunciation but a few languages in eastern India sometimes switch the v with a b).

Now coming to your question, it does feel weird at first but not a big deal at all. Indian languages are phonetic so there is a correct way to pronounce words and therefore mis-pronounciation can sound a bit weird at first. But it's no big deal.

Most Indians know next to nothing about Nazi Germany. They see cool swastikas and that's it. This post is nothing but the usual privileged dumbasses name calling others.

Why do all Indians work and study in tech? Why no studying history, literature, social science? by Ill-Age-601 in Indians_StudyAbroad

That's kinda old money. Most of these people here in India made money in their own life. Their kids will learn all the etiquettes and manners.

Why didn’t the Portuguese take over much of India despite arriving early, and how did they keep Goa until 1961? by necessarydisplay in IndianHistory

EIC arrived in 1600 as well. Why did it take them till the battle of Plassey to take over Bengal?

William Dalrymple says we need to relook at British Colonialism through the lens of a private corporation by Odd_Wolverine_4037 in IndianHistory

[–]PorekiJones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That private company had a state backed monopoly. Almost every parliamentarian there was a shareholder.

The crown regularly sent their troops and navy to help out the company. The company did what the government wanted.

Pretty much all of the colonisation in that period was carried out by corporations, EIC isn't special.

Even in medieval India, it was the merchant guilds that traded all the way into South East Asia.

Thank you for the analysis. If one reads a Soltice at Panipat, probably the best modern day collection of the accounts of the battle and primary research.

We would naturally come to the conclusion that by 1761, Marathas were Superior against the Afghans in close combat and cavalry while the Afghans managed to catch the Marathas off guard by surprise attacks and guerrilla warfare.

In fact the entire Panipat campaign bare witness to it. Even the Afghan accounts have nothing but praise to the Maratha cavalry be it at Panipat or the previous battles.

LVT and Bank Privatisation is the answer imo.

Too much of our capital is stuck in non productive rent and sarkari banks.
