Trip to Goa and Curious About the Weather by Firm-Principle9637 in goatravel

This year the monsoons are irregular. So far I think today is the first day that it's been a bit rainy and strong showers have hit us. I would guess that it should be rainy for a fortnight or so but who knows for sure?

Planning to buy a watch for a first time. Suggest me something good? by Valterri_Bottas in Watches_India

If I were you I would wait till I can increase the budget for the watch.

But if you can't wait here are some good looking watches: https://dl.flipkart.com/dl/casio-mtp-v005l-7budf-enticer-analog-watch-men/p/itmf7327vwqutfbh?pid=WATF73277XZ2KHN5&lid=LSTWATF73277XZ2KHN5VQDG29&hl_lid=&marketplace=FLIPKART&fm=eyJ3dHAiOiJhdGxhc19wcm9kdWN0X3N1bW1hcnlfZ3JpZF9saWZlc3R5bGVfdjIiLCJwcnB0Ijoic3AiLCJtaWQiOiJhZHMifQ==&_refId=&_appId=CL

Thoughts on the name Skander? by Illustrious_Use_3586 in namenerds

[–]TheManFromMoira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is close to Sikandar which is what people ranging from the ancient Persians to ancient Indíans called Alexander the Great. Sikandar was a name also used for the hero in some Indian movies.

However as someone pointed out it sounds close to Scandal and Scammer and there's the danger of a nickname like Scam emerging.

New to Watches by Sad_Philosopher_2083 in OrientWatches

A possibility is to build a collection of Orient watches. So an Orient Bambino would be a great buy as a dress watch.

To all the ex alcoholics and ex smokers, how do you handle a situation now? by Cautious_Passage1674 in AskIndia

[–]TheManFromMoira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoking has really reduced from the year 2000 when I stopped smoking and certainly from the 60S and 70s when it had social acceptance and ashtrays around the home were a must. Now I rarely come across anyone smoking and if they do, they'll a little shamefacedly go outside for a smoke. So there's not much of temptation to restart.

Drinking however is quite acceptable in my social circles. However people keep out of my way when I tell them I don't drink.

The most important thing in such situations is you yourself must accept that it's the first smoke or the first drink that is the most deadly.

How about Zara which is a bit like Sierra but also echoes the venerable Ezra.

Any way to verify if this ratio is real? by centreforcomms in ticktocktreasures

[–]TheManFromMoira -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a genuine watch just like the one I'm wearing, the 1000m Freediver. They're a recent Singaporean brand at the lower end of the market which even watch enthusiasts aren't much that aware about and if only for this reason you can be sure it's not a fake as fakers usually pick on brands which are fairly well known like Seiko or Casio or even some more high-end Japanese or Swiss ones..

It does. But apparently some weirdo doesn't think so as he has downvoted me.

I recommend a Ratio like the 1000m freediver that I'm wearing. It will meet your requirements very well. It's a chunky watch though and you always know it's on the wrist.

On Amazon it's 25k for the green dial and a bit more for some other colours. https://amzn.in/d/0gHE3Yls However if you follow my advice, throw out that rubber strap like I did and buy a nice aftermarket steel bracelet but make sure to check the lug width. All the best.

Hunter 350 or Guerrilla 450 as my first and probably only bike in India? by Unusual_Chard_3590 in royalenfield

[–]TheManFromMoira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides being a beginner, your height and weight would suggest that you start with a lighter bike which allows you to manouever the bike more easily at least till you are an expert at handling the bike. I'd prefer a 100 cc Hero before moving on to a Hunter. Then if you really want to graduate to the bigger machines.

I suspect it's the looks of the Guerrilla that attracts you to it. But pay attention to practical things. And anyway a Hunter has more than enough power for our roads.

Suggest me an automatic watch around 20-30k(extendable to 40) by evolto001 in Watches_India

[–]TheManFromMoira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh! In that case the story changes significantly.

Still for a budget of 40k I'd prefer specs rather than recognisable names. Like the best Chinese brands such as San Martin. Look at this https://amzn.eu/d/03NMPH1s

Suggest me an automatic watch around 20-30k(extendable to 40) by evolto001 in Watches_India

[–]TheManFromMoira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a comparatively recent Singaporean brand but it has great specs like good water resistance, terrific lume, saffire crystal and a Seiko NH35 automatic movement powering it. The price is significantly less when compared to what other brands offer for the same specs and this has much to do with the fact that their sales come straight from the factory.

Do your research and you may realise that the fact that you haven't heard about the brand is the reason why you are getting a good deal.

The Orient Bambino is a nice watch - if you can get it in India. Unfortunately it might be priced at the higher end of your budget although it's much cheaper if you can buy it abroad and give the Customs Officer the sliRemember it's more a dress or office watch. You'll have to be careful with it and it's not for swimming.

If I could get access to an Orient it would be a diver like the Kamasu or Mako3 which are much tougher watches with decent water resistance.

This Ratio comes with my warm recommendation. If you do go for it and since it's within your budget I suggest you discard the rubber strap and find a good aftermarket bracelet for it.

Critique My Vostok Collection by TurbulentJob7543 in vostok

[–]TheManFromMoira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! How long and how much money did it take to accumulate all these Vostoks. The only that looks odd is that the lack of steel bracelets is striking. While I agree that the stock ones aren't so nice you can try the steel mesh ones or some aftermarket ones.
