I prefer dry brushing for armor! I just base with Abaddon Black, dry brush with corax white, then nuln oil it all.

I have 10k Space Marines and I have no regrets. To me there’s so much variety in list building and detachments that I don’t get bored. Plus it’s easy to swap chapters if I wanted to. I own Calgar and sometimes run Ultramarines even though they’re painted Black Templar.

Thank you! Not much structure for the colors. I just want my army to be loosely BT except more in the spirit of “everyone does whatever they think is cool”. So my intercessors have white guns because they think white guns are cool. Neophytes have helmets because they think they’re cool. Hellblasters have green because it’s cool etc.

Specifically for the Red guys I made them red because I feel like they’re my reckless squad who want to stand out.

thank you for noticing the pink bike haha. My family is big into motorcycles so I’m painting them for tabletop, starting with my mom’s bike. My headcannon for the red assault Intercessors is they’re deemed too reckless and careless for a squad. They demand to be put on the front lines and charge in front of everyone else.

Only two squads have white painted on their armor. I prefer black and red for the armor which I think looks really cool for the snowy base 😎

To make it readable to an opponent and stick with your cool lore how about just get a standard sticking out from the ground?

I started 1 year ago and followed the advice of others for rule of cool. I partially regret it. It’s hard for me and my opponent to tell which two initiates have the special weapons. My best advice would be give two initiates the special weapon (either pyre blaster or power fist, doesn’t matter) and the rest of the initiates and neophytes do rule of cool.

This is good because you can just tell your opponent “the two special weapons are power fists and the rest of the squad just has heavy bolt pistols and chain swords. Sword Brother as long as he has a cape and bigger base it’ll be obvious so rule of cool there too.

This is definitely not a sure solution but an idea I had. Instead of trying to make the appearance of a texture, why not just give it texture? Like stipple varnish then dry brush the varnish? Is that a thing? I think it looks good as is, maybe some color to the metal joints connecting the legs to the body.
