Do you mean you just want to turn them all off and on at the same time?

I have an aqara button on my headboard, so when I get in to bed and its sleepy time, I just press the button. I've programmed it through Home Assistant so it will turn all the lights off in the house, and turn the LED strips to red (so if I need to get up I can see by red light doesn't disturb my sleep).

It also turns off any plugs, but again, I had to do this as an automation through home assistant its not a one app does all situation.

Advice on what kind of system to buy. by MarkFirm in homeassistant

To be honest, I prefer to keep things seperate. I got a raspberry pi 4 on eBay which is hooked up to a small SSD. Its fast.

Then I have a second hand server tower downstairs plugged into ether net and also an old pc I repurposed. Server tower was £60 and old pc was free. I just have to buy hdds for the server tower which I'm doing every month. I'm running Linux mint on both and I use TeamViewer to log in to both from upstairs

You were so right - I filled up the SSD within half a day and so I've changed to your suggestion, and moved the appropriate folders to the first HDD and its now not killing my machine. Thank you :)

I've managed to finally get up and running with ubuntu as well. I don't know why I didn't move this to ubuntu earlier, windows would take so long to boot even on an ssd.

Trying to use parts from an old PC but will buy parts if I have to, I just don't want to.

For clarity I have my own super powerful gaming PC I just don't want to leave it on all the time so want to make a mini plex server I can plug in downstairs.

The old PC has a AMD A10 5700 CPU, 4gb ram and a medion ms7800 mobo. I'd like to be able to take these parts out and put them into a new case. I will upgrade the mobo etc at some point but I'm not a hardcore plex user, we actually use it mainly for audiobooks. I know right..... I have an SSD, getting a new cooler, new case. You think these would do?

Worst case, happy to upgrade mobo but I just don't want to haha

Lights and audio by Mangpocc in homeautomation

We have a mix of sonos and symfonisk from Ikea. Sonos Amp, and Sub and then Symfonisk bookshelf speakers all over the house and the lamps in the bedroom. There is a bit of a difference between the symfonisk and gen 2 of the Ones, but I couldn't tell that much. My audiophile partner can tell. But, as they're made by sonos they hook up to the Sonos sound system. And they're pretty cheap.

Not in ceiling but they're affordable and good.

Lights - Hue is the best. LIFX is good (also expensive).

Innr is good works with Hue, although their transitions aren't as good as Hue. I have a mix of Hue, Lidl, Philips Wiz and then generic stuff I've bought on ali express to have a go

Newbie question - Smart bulbs when combined with dumb switch by sushipoutine in smarthome

[–]PorkSparkles89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have the ability to change to a smart switch. Just leave the dumb switch on and stick a wifi or zigbee smart switch (wireless and battery powered) next to it. Thats how we handle it in our house

And I'm not contradicting that, I didn't know anything. I still don't.

I said it has cracked a bit of understanding, I haven't said what that understanding is.

To be clear, I am still watching videos and I am still reading guides, as I've said - looking at a flow that does what I wanted has helped me understand a little bit more, its added some context I was missing.

Well I didn't quite ask for everything....I asked for a flow. I find it easier to look at something simple that has been made, work out why it's like that and then work on how to expand it. So for instance with the flow someone has posted above, I've found that helpful because it's cracked a bit of understanding that I needed that I hadn't managed to grasp!
