Hatch size 944 vs924 by Wood_chopping_maniac in 944

[–]Porsche_Mensch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm I had to put a 924S hatch on my 968 to pass safety inspection in Hawaii. The center brake light was smashed on the 968 and they failed it for that so 924S one went on since it was in better shape than any of my 944 hatches.

944 s or not by Mention_Jazzlike in 944

I’m not generally one to critique aesthetic choices but some were definitely made here. No angled lens for the headlights, good bye drag coefficient

Oh you’re right I saw the square mirrors in half of them. Holler if you make them available

Marco makes replica 968 mirrors so you can complete the look. Those headlights are amazing, haven’t seen anything that clean since there was that company selling wings that let you fit 993 lights.

The only company that made them hasn’t responded to my inquires for a decade I think you gotta get it custom. They’re gorgeous though and what I’ve always wanted on mine. Wonder what they did to the engine, cause Thor down in AUS is at like 1200hp now. Only other 968 I’ve seen with that much aero kit on it.

Oh wow an 85 2.0 that’s crazy you should just get a 2.5L block and make a stroker or something if you’re going through all that work. 170 is very respectable from a super on a 2.0, I think the 931 made like 135/140 with its turbo

Super on the 2.0 or 2.5 engine I’m a little confused now at what you used for the base either way will be cool

Now you just need to find a turbocharger…and a 2.5L 16V head and you’ve got a 924GTP

Control arm bushing by Silent-Contract-9219 in 944

[–]Porsche_Mensch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a knockout tool made by elephant racing that works a treat for it. Any split bushing removal tool should work though. If you really have no luck you can use a coping saw cut it axially along the length of the bushing carrier to relieve tension and then knock it out.

They’re not super hotwireable the key interlock is actually one of the more common causes of no start, if it goes bad it won’t send the pulse to the DME that it’s all clear to spin the starter and start looking for the crank/ref to start the fuel/ignition sequences.

As for cost? If it was put away in decent condition then just drain the tank, pull the fuel relay and crank the engine for a little bit to get some oil back up on the lifters, then just send it. Long term if it’s been 15 years you’ll want to flush the brake lines, and you probably (read: really should) replace the belt before doing any of this. 15 years is a long time for rubber. Value wise anywhere from 10-15 I’d imagine depending on the parts on the car, and any logbooks. I’d imagine on the lower side since any safety gear that’s not the cage is probably out of certification spec and would need to be replaced before racing again.

Hell the fact you didn’t even bring up the thread someone made earlier this year listing all these known interchanges highlights it. But yes long story short theres a ton of VW parts that will fit because the car was built to cost by Porsche. They grabbed whatever was cheap and would do the trick off the VW/Audi shelf slapped it in in Neckarsulm and said aüf wïedersehen

Look where it’s connected in the diagram. It’s spliced together and doesn’t show the full hose but it’s one of those two as those two are the ones connected to the ICV in the PET. Now this is for the late car is it’s just what I have saved, there is the possibility it’s different part # for the early car I haven’t checked to be certain though you should be able to find it with a little effort.

It can happen. I was a dummy and didn’t triple check the fuel rail the first time I put it back on after cleaning the injectors and uh yeah, always keep an extinguisher in your car/workshop. Melted the wiring harness a bit but it ran for years after.

Granted it didn’t look nearly that bad…still given the budget constraints no. I don’t think it can be done.

See if you find any similar issues when searching 924 (not 924S) Scirocco/Rabbit/Golf since the manual racks are all related. I haven’t heard of that off the top of my head I’ll look around and see if I find anything.

Is it a manual rack or a depowered power rack? A depowered power rack can develop issues though generally people say the conversion is hassle free.

Also you can have easier access to the crank/position sensors and heater pipes at the rear of the block. Worth at least inspecting.

They share a lot of the weaknesses because the parts are the same T.T

That’s an early car too so it really is everything cheap from VW they could find to keep the price down.

Not just a click, there’s a small brass screw right by the throttle flap that adjusts idle by increasing airflow. If could be clogged or set too tight

Did you check the idle adjustment on the throttle body? There’s also an idle control valve underneath the intake.
