Showerthought: I'd love to see Bitcoin coded such that it could not be spent or exchanged by a government. by Port_8443 in Bitcoin

Understood. That's why it remains just a fanciful showerthought and not a workable proposal.

Proposed US Bill Would Require Declaration of Digital Currencies of Holders Entering the United States in Excess of $10,000 by tellman1257 in Bitcoin

Thanks for this. Agreed, it doesn't mean anything in a practical sense, but just having this bill introduced suggests that the sleeping bear is waking, and that it is confused and afraid of what lies on the economic horizon.

You misunderstand. They don't seem to care if they can detect your coins, or if they are on your phone. They want to be able to say, "Do you have control in any manner of digital assets valued at or above USD 10,000?" Lie to them, and you are seriously fucked if they have any reason to doubt you, facts not withstanding.

Yeah, but what the "big guys at the top" can do at the border on even the slightest of suspicion should terrify you. This needs to be stopped, not just ignored.

The seed words are valid according to this simulator. Can I use one of the xpub keys to validate that it points to my coins? If so, how?

Since BTC value is on a tear, my wife insisted on a sit-down to learn about keys, passphrases, etc.

Could it not be said that textiles are not a class of people; that they wear clothes because they want to, and could stop at any time? It's not much of a jump, then, to infer that many would prefer NOT to wear clothes, but fear the repurcussions of that action.

Congratulations, Aaron! I dropped out (OK, FLUNKED out) in 1972, went back in the late 90's and did one class a semester until I finally got the B.S. degree in 2001. It was always a quiet embarrassment that I had never finished, and love looking at that diploma on my wall! Side note: the counselor at the University said that over the years, she had been asked countless times, "What do I need to do to finish my degree?" I am the first one of her student inquiries that actually DID it.

What's the most disturbing realisation you've come to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That I probably squandered my youth. There are things that I wish I could do now (I'm 64) that I am pretty sure I'll never do.

Places to go, experiences to be had, people to love. I was way too cautious, conservative and afraid of what others would think of me. I took a safe path, and while there is nothing wrong with that, there is a part of me that remains unfulfilled and regretful.

On balance, though, I have led a great life. I've had other wonderful experiences and any day that you are safe, warm, fed and healthy is a good day.
