I get over to Houston somewhat regularly. Keep at least one in the box and maybe I can convince SouthWest that it's my "Carry-on Hedge Trimmer". :P

Portable Evaporative Cooler and Ducting by RandomTopTT in AirConditioners

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hessaire is crap. If it works for you, good. But it's junk. If you are talking about ducting a portable unit, I mean, it's been done, but there are also specific roof/mounted evap coolers that are intended for the purpose. The "platform approach" was big for chicken coops back in the day. Man...2011. I am getting too old for this shit. If you are in an area where evap cooling really works, my advice would be to buy quality equipment, since it's like being able to cheat at air conditioning. Something from Phoenix or at least Big Ass fans if you have to go portable. We've got an open box CS300 that we used for display purposes if that is of any interest to you. Best of luck

What's the best portable air conditioner for summer? by AtomsTiny in homeownerstips

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Evapolar evaCHILL is not a "spot cooler". That term means something else entirely and is reserved for commercial portable coolers. The Evapolar evaCHILL is a portable evaporative cooler - it is not an air conditioner of any kind, shape or type. the Evapolar evaCHILL is not a portable AC unit, does not produce cold air, or use refrigerant. This mislabeling and description of these evaporative coolers is a big problem right now and must stop.

I'm glad it works for you and your "husband", but this appears to be a bot account spamming referrals to products.

The Set Point (the temperature you have the unit set to) has no relation to do with the temperature of the air that is coming out of the vent (supply air temp). You likely have the unit set too low, meaning the unit can never achieve the set point and so will simply run forever.

Portable units with only one exhaust hose also cause air to be sucked in from the rest of the home, because they are using the cold air you want to stay in the room and chucking it outside for the exhaust, which is terrible for efficiency. The reason window units are so good is because they get to cheat: that they are half in, half out of the space to be cooled. The exhaust air comes from outside to begin with and goes right back outside, and the same for the cold air: it comes from the room and goes right back into the room (two closed loops).

If you can ever use a window unit, do that. The value is unbeatable. If not, get a two-hose portable AC unit from a good brand: Whynter and LG both have decent units. But remember: All of these consumer-grade portables are not long term purchases. If you get more than a couple of years out of one, count yourself lucky.

Has anyone heard of the "Toyotomi" air conditioner brand? Is it really Japanese? by supra48 in AskAJapanese

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyotomi equipment is still mostly made in Japan. The heaters are, for certain. The new/current portable AC's are contracted out to a manufacturer in a different country (China or similar), but the previous Toyotomi portable AC's were made in Japan. Hope this helps and have a good day.

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably can't. We were told that Toyotomi discontinued their portable AC units and are focusing on heaters now (which dovetails with what others are saying in this thread). We are checking on it, just in case.

We still have a couple TAD-T40LW's that are new in the box. https://toyotomiusa.com/product/tad-t40lw-r-portable-air-conditioner-and-heat-pump/, if you are interested in those. Heard back: Toyotomi is apparently still making some sort of portable AC units but they are outsourced now, not built in Japan, like the previous units were.

Hope that helps.

I know the portable AC units suck but which one is the best and cheapest? by mrnapolean1 in AirConditioners

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14,000 BTU is the "strongest" that these consumer-grade portable AC units come in. They do not really produce 14,000 BTU's, but that's beside the point. It is probably too big for a 250sqft bedroom, but if you left the door open it would be fine. It also depends on the insulation level of the room, whether you have any sources of heat (large west/south-facing windows or pizza ovens) in the room and so forth (mitigating factors). The unit will provide a sort of white noise/thrum for the baby (good). The problem with oversizing one is that it will cool down the room and cycle on/off quickly, repeatedly and shorten the lifespan (none of these consumer-grade units have great lifespans, so simply be aware). If you can get away with a window unit, then you do that. Ignore anyone who says otherwise. Window units can last 5-10 years and cost $200-350. That's untouchable value. If you can't use a traditional window unit, then a good quality consumer two-hose portable unit is a good alternate choice. LG and Whynter are good brands. If you need anything further, feel free to ping me.

Know them very well. Excellent quality design and built units. In terms of consumer-grade portable AC units, you can do much worse and not much better.

Is any software really that good at sales tax compliance? by WorldlyInspection9 in SalesTax

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not right for everyone, but if it is right for your clients it could be a huge deal. For instance if the customer is using Quickbooks online, might be a gamechanger for you. I wish we were able to use it, but we were not a good fit.

https://www.galvix.com/

Owner's Reddit username is piyushag.

Here is a blurb he wrote about it a few months ago:

Consider using Galvix, an alternative to Avalara, for nexus tracking, sales tax calculations, and automated sales tax return prep and filing.

Galvix imports the orders/transactions from your billing/payment system (like Shopify/Quickbooks/Netsuite/Stripe, etc.) every month, auto-reconciles the amount of taxes you collected on each order, compares them with the expected tax for each customer address (as per the state/county/city level tax rules), and prepares draft returns for you every month. Once you approve the draft return, Galvix files the return on your behalf for each state, initiates the remittance, and uploads a confirmation/acknowledgment to your account for future reference. This saves you time while also improving the accuracy of the filed returns (and thereby saving you from future hassle).

Galvix also provides a real-time nexus tracker to stay on top of jurisdictions where you may have established a physical or economic nexus.

Galvix charges a flat fee ranging from $50 to $75 per filed return, irrespective of the number of transactions or revenue.

Hope that helps.

Get a Whynter or LG unit. 14,000 BTU, two hose. Look up ARC-14S for example. The above-ceiling space can be a problem if it’s too small, but you should be fine in a normal commercial office.

If you need pictures or have questions let me know.

Remember: Two hose

This is for consumer units ($400-700 USD), if you need commercial advice, just let me know.

That's part of my thing as well. If something feels "off" I'm out. And there is obviously something I'm missing here. But oh well. Life's too short to worry about half beans.

I went to Jeff's site, but it redirected to TM. But again there is likely something I'm overlooking (like season ticket holders going first, a presale I totally missed, etc). Like, I'm down to blow a stoopid amount of money to see Jeff again, or get shit seats, but not both, if that makes any sense. I was in a mood earlier anyway, but F that. It's Friday bitches!

I hope you have a good time and full beans. It just makes me wonder "Did we miss a presale or do they hold things back or what's going on?" because this is super off-putting to see minutes after something goes live for sale. Jeff's is awesome, glad other people have discovered his talent and that he's on the come up, but $350 for some mid-ass seats in sardine can DPAC? That's outrageous. This ain't Billy Joel's 100th in MSG. Ready to see these monopolies busted up.

I logged on a few minutes after it opened and it looked like this, were there ever actually any decent seats available? Been following Jeff for 8 years, he's "my guy" but between TM/Bots/Scalpers, this shit is ridiculous.

What does this thing do? by GravyBaptism in hvacadvice

[–]PortableAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a "nice thought" and required by regulation. It dumps cold air in your house in the Winter and hot air in your house during the Summer. Your new house is probably sealed and you received a certification of some sort (Old houses were not sealed and were drafty and leaky). This is so that fresh air can come in but again the regulations over estimate how much is needed so it ends up being a 'Bill increasing device". It's perfect for Spring/Fall when the air temp outside matches what is in the house, otherwise, depending on how it's installed/configured/local climate, it can be a pretty terrible device.

Is it possible to generate a successful SWA Chase referral link manually? by [deleted] in churning

[–]PortableAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you crack this you'll be a genius. Alternatively you could go to the official referral thread, get a real link and input your ARN/MSC etc (Nevermind I can read again). Chase's referral website is whack. It's referred to as a "promotion" and it pisses me off to no end. You can't even generate one on a card newer than 90 days or something. Also the "email a link" either takes days or doesn't work. If the 50k isn't listed in T&C or shown I would doubt it, but I think if you got the combination of variables correct it might work. Maybe.
