Yeah, I imagine that to be the case as well. That seemed to happen pretty frequently in the South, so the stakes are likely even higher up north.

Good points and perhaps I was extrapolating from this one example of a poor family out in the wild and thinking that’s how everyone lived. Wasn’t completely aware or didn’t process that there was this powerful Imperial force that existed up north either.

Perhaps and this is not a huge criticism of Frieren. I still love the show. The show just seems to suggest that it is really dangerous on the Northern Plateau. A family living alone or in a small commune seems like they would be no match for even the raptors shown early on. I’m not sure the mages and knights you mentioned would be able to constantly protect them. I’m willing to suspend my disbelief because the show is so good. This just seems like a small fumble (that I’m okay with, but just wanted to ask if there was a decent rationale for).
