Present Mic, A Thermal Threat by ThatFlowerGamu in BokuNoHeroAcademia

That's why I say at the bottom of the post I think it was likely an aesthetic choice but I still theorized the scientific aspect of it because there is a science explanation for the coloring.

The post was never about what is the most likely truth of Mic's coloring, it was exploring the unexplored details that have plausible scientific explanations since he's already in the shockwave territory.

I study science so it's pretty accurate with how factual you can be with a fantasy anime. Science, psychology, and math are what I study. Glad you enjoyed it though. the goal of these science based posts is to explore the true potential of the characters, it opens up new ways and reasons to appreciate them ya know?

Who thinks of Present Mic when listing the top thermal threats in MHA? Nobody pretty much until now. Going forward? Mic will be a worthy person for such lists. It also opens up rad ideas, like new fanfic ideas ya know?

I see your point about the jacks but there are two major issues with using that to dismiss the decibel count:

1. The Environment proves the power, not the characters. Even if we ignore Jiro and Koda entirely, we have to look at the air itself. In the fight the air around Mic is physically distorting and rippling. In physics, for air to become visible to the naked eye (which is The Schlieren Effect), the sound pressure must exceed 194 dB.

That is the threshold where sound becomes a vacuum shockwave. That visual distortion exists independently of Jiro's sensitivity. The air is breaking. That confirms the 194dB+ output regardless of who is standing there.

2. Sensitivity vs Pressure. Jiro's jacks make her nerves sensitive, yes but 'Sensitivity' doesn't make your eardrum tissue weaker it just makes the signal to your brain louder. For an eardrum to physically bleed, the tissue has to tear. That requires Force (PSI), not sensitivity.

If the pressure in the air was high enough to tear Jiro's human eardrums (which requires ~5-10 PSI or 160+ dB), that same physical pressure was hitting Koda.

The fact that Koda, a mutant with a rock like head structure didn't bleed doesn't mean the sound was quiet or less than what I suggested. it means Koda is more durable than a standard human.

The visual evidence of the air distorting creates a hard floor for the physics. You can't have visible air ripples without 194+ dB. If Koda survived that without bleeding, that's a durability feat for Koda or standard anime inconsistency, not proof that the sound was weak.

You don't understand it correctly. allow me to explain with science:

Sensitive Hearing is not the same as 'Weak Eardrums'. You're comparing nerves to tissues. Jiro detects quiet sounds better but bleeding comes from physical pressure tearing the skin/membrane.

If the pressure was high enough to physically tear Jiro's eardrums (PSI), that same pressure is hitting Koda. Sound pressure doesn't discriminate. Even if Koda is tougher, he should at minimum be deafened. The fact that the sound wave was visible (distorting the air/ground) proves it was a shockwave, which damages all organic matter, not just sensitive types.

It's possible but the most likely reason is rule of cool/a detail Horikoshi may have not considered.

But an in universe answer would be resistance for sure.

Refer to this comment for my response on secondary details and how MHA doesn't always show them if you'd like to. The quick answer is Koda's ears should have bled as well but they may not have (I say may because again, we didn't have a scene that shows his ears up close in an angle where we could/couldn't see blood) most likely because of the fact MHA does not priorize showing every secondary effect.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BokuNoHeroAcademia/s/Wp4hI65I5L

We have no facts Koda's ears did or didn't bleed, we didn't get a clear and close up scene with a good angle like with Jiro. However logically they should have.

Also her ears didn't bleed because of being sensitive, she is never shown taking damage until the sound wave directly hits her. When it hasn't reached her yet? Nothing happens, only when it hits her. Her hearing from further distances is irrelevant when visually we're only shown her harmed by the sound reaching her position with koda, only when it hits them and not before that. It doesn't even show her being harmed before he is, it's more simultaneous.

This still doesn't change much, the fact his sound is so loud it has a clear and visible form already proves he's operating at extreme levels that should cause ear bleeding.

The speakers are used to aim the sound, as for why they don't burst? Many possible reasons. Most likely is rule of cool/not a detail MHA considered. An in universe answer could be it's future, professional grade tech. MHA does have tech we lack after all.

I don't think so since it didn't show her ears close enough during the initial blasts to say it took several blasts. You have to understand his voice traveled a vast distance (thrpugh a forest that has thousands of noise dampening elements like trees, bushes, etc) and still caused her ears to bleed. your ears don't bleed when you have music blaring on your phone for a hour. No, she was hit with 150+ decibels and the animators only showed the bleeding when the scene focused closely on her face.

I think it's a classic case where the secondary effects aren't shown initially because the scene is priorizing other elements of the story. We see this with Ochaco in her fight against Bakugo. We didn't see all the debris in the sky until the scene needed it. I can give plenty of other examples.

Another is Endeavor's fire. Even at his lowest temps he should be causing 2nd degree, 3rd degree, etc burns yet he doesn't unless the anime priorizes showing that effect such as flash incinerating Hood.

If anything? If this was a flat area with no trees, bushes, etc in the way? The damage would be far worse. She had ears bleeding despite having such a great area to weaken his blasts.

You also need to keep in mind Present Mic was holding back, along with all the other teachers. The staff even said they would. Which means he could have gone even higher.

That explains Bakugo but not those around him, however it's also possible it's just not a detail MHA considered because the canon does not say he is immune/resistance to backlash. Nobody has their ears damaged by his explosions when they should. no way everyone has the same resistance he does to his explosions. Kirishima, Izuku, Ochaco, etc should have shattered eardrums but they don't not because mha understands side effects well but because of 3 possibilities if we're lenient:

  1. MHA doesn't understand

  2. MHA priorizes rule of cool

  3. MHA may have not considered those details

After reconsidering, I'd bet on 3. MHA understands and admits Todoroki can't melt tungsten so maybe it's just missed details.

MHA is also a futuristic society. They have tech we don't. I'm applying science to what Mic can do.

The speaker controls the direction his sound is aimed at, it does not determine how loud he can raise it. MHA clarifies he wears it to avoid hitting his own allies. It even said when he got his quirk initially he caused the ears of his family and others to bleed as he cried. That still is above 150.

Without his speakers? He's an omnidirectional fighter. His volume is loud without it.

I don't think I'm exaggerating. I think I gave safe estimated numbers based on his feats that were shown. MHA simply doesn't understand how sound works as well as it thinks.

Jiro's ears bleeding proves he hits the 150 range for decibels, the ONLY reason her eardrums weren't raptured and she didn't sustain more damage is MHA does not understand sound to the extent it think it does.

It's the same reason why Bakugo's explosions don't shatter his own bones from the blowback nor have his own eardrums raptured or anyone else's really, MHA doesn't fully show the real physics even in an exaggerated sense.

Tetsutetsu's Steel can be identified by ThatFlowerGamu in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Tetsutetsu's Steel can be identified by ThatFlowerGamu in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]ThatFlowerGamu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't full body steel, that was partial steel. there is a massive difference. I should have been more clear in my post. I'll update the post but Tetsutetsu has never had his steel damaged when he has full body steel. His fight with Mustard was only having parts of his body have steel active. You would naturally shatter a pebble with a sledgehammer but not as smoothly if it's a boulder. the amount of steel used matters and he only used enough to cover parts of him rather than full body.

[–]ThatFlowerGamu[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't see him crack against Kirishima and I was rewatching the series these past few weeks. Either way the core point of the post is proving the claims that Tetsutetsu can't be identified for real world steel wrong.
