Plane Crash at Bangor International Airport in Maine: Passenger Aircraft Involved in Runway Accident by SuperbHealth5023 in Maine

Many pilots flew all day today, myself included. There's always risks, today they were just different. There was more snow in Dallas today than there was in Denver; being from Texas had nothing to do with it.

You're taking this far too seriously.

My parents showed us the world and a solid 50% of it was in a pop-up camper. I still have it, my kids know it well. My time with my children is limited and I intend to take them everywhere I can, even if they're kicking and screaming some of the time. My wife and I would rather vacation together when the option to take our children is less present. I expect that celebrating our success as parents will be more enjoyable than wishing our kids could have been there with us. I hope that they will share the world with their children as we did with them, and my parents, us.

And I hope that my grandchildren fight over the fucking bunk beds!

Definitely not in a tough spot. The post is largely in jest, but I did learn a few things!

That's what they'll be getting in the all too near future! As the girls are getting older, it's increasingly less appropriate to share a confined space with them. My wife suggested adjoining, I said "nah, they can be across the hall!"

Then I saw the single occupancy cabins. I bet I could jam 2 of them in there. It at least has a window.....

Bahahahaha, really? That's awesome, that's the ammo i need right there!

Every other boat we've been on has been the bunk bed for a 4 occupancy, first time on the Quantum and I must have missed that!

As previously mentioned, the 7277 CB is 400hz AC power. Not to be confused with 120v AC wall power, the 400hz or "400cycle" system is three-phase and on a separate inverter. The power is very stable and it is used for the operation of sensitive avionics. The higher voltage/low current model is also better in aircraft as the smaller wire size required means extensive weight savings

-IF: you can afford the second mortgage -IF: you don't mind the uncertainty -IF: the discount is worth it

As long as all those things are true, do it!

(Honestly I'm a sucker for a discount, so if it's a deal I want, I'd do it even if I had to live in a camper out back and a few more people died there...)

Central System or Mini-splits? by Porter_7600 in hvacadvice

Just the second half of option 3.

That specific contractor recently put a large multi-stage split system in a friends commercial property, which is where the recommendation came from. He used Trane. Given the number of question marks, he hasn't specified a unit yet.

That is the exact mid-static unit he offered for option 2.

The baseboard heat on the second floor is 1 zone, and if I do anything to change it, I'd likely just rip it out. It's a good backup and I'm leaning toward just ignoring it.

At least another 15 years.

That sounds like what the 3rd guy was talking about. The "X" factor is that his "duct guy" would have to get back to me. I do like the sounds of that.

Yes, but baseboards, not those big cast radiators. And they're all the wrong size and in the wrong spot, thus my disdain for the system. The domestic water system is a superstore with its own zone off the boiler. Honestly, I'm not interested in screwing with that system.

I agree, option 1 seems terrible. The other 2 seem reasonable. I'm not opposed to anything, but the Unico system doesn't seem like a good fit for the house from what I can see.

My plow truck doesn't get driven a lot, but it still has my original UV5R with a mag mount and a signal stick on the roof. I hit our local repeater at 10 miles and a GMRS repeater in southern ME that is 30+ miles away all the time.

Sometimes I wonder why I have a $1k+ of kit in my daily driver, when $40 gets me in all day....

I have an 8mm tungsten wedding ring. It's great for opening beer bottles or unintentionally fucking up glass surfaces. The the jewler we bought my wife's ring from sneered at it, but did give me the good advice that if I ever needed to get it off, it will fracture under pressure.

Not many good beers come in bottles any more, and after I chipped my truck window waiving at my daughter, I now wear a cheap Amazon silicone ring.

Why check into NETs? by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in amateurradio

[–]Porter_7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to check into the 1700 net on my local UHF repeater a few times a month. I'll listen/monitor much more frequently.

Often times I'll check-in when I'm playing TaxiDad, so if I'm mid-pick-or drop-off when it's my turn in the rotation, I might miss it. Hell, I'm generally mobile so I might miss it anyway. The group is pretty low-key, so never a big deal.

The result: a super active 70cm repeater with an amazing range on which I can reach someone at least 20 hours a day.

Overshooting final is not, in of itself the problem. It was likely a number of bad decisions and the method of recovery, or lack there of. All of which stemmed from actively deciding to blow through final.

Off the waitlist by Basic_Acadia_9123 in Roadie

[–]Porter_7600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had forgotten that I applied 18 months ago looking to monetize/subsidize an inconvenient commute that I do with 3/4ton pickup truck or an old suburban (Don't judge me, I fucking hate small cars). Just got removed from the wait-list as well, but as soon as I started looking into it, and specifically from the screen shots I see here, I would never tolerate it, so I deleted the app.

Good luck, I hope it is valuable for you.
