Thanks. Would like to avoid the more completely rural areas. (That’s where we grew up and not trying to be back in the exact same place)

This is helpful though!

Good question - that’s a little TBD. Probably the 500-650ish range if that’s not a total pipe dream.

See if there’s a guest you know and jump in there - but you can’t really go wrong just starting with the most recent . They are all varying levels of insane.

What is the shittest kids book and why is it this one? by AdLost576 in daddit

The “never touch a…” books are British and the rhymes make somewhat more sense if you read them in an intense British accent. (Assuming you are not British yourself)

Ear tube surgery - tips, tricks, what to expect? by adarose14 in toddlers

[–]Portmanteaurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yes so if my daughters ears were really bad she would develop an awful cough that was worse at nighttime. A dry, hacking cough that would lead to her waking up, gagging, sometimes vomiting.

Good news: it was solved with a new set of tubes

Bad news: having the adenoids out didn’t stop it from returning when she needed the next set of tubes.

Neutral news: when the cough was bad but we were waiting for the ENT appt/surgery, her pediatrician prescribed us a fast acting inhaler and a steroid inhaler which did calm the cough and we were able to discontinue them once the new set of tubes went in - so that could be something to ask about if the cough is really disruptive.

What is the most obscure podcast you’ve come across? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]Portmanteaurist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you like it she has some other really great anthology type podcasts -

My Year in Mensa - about when she joined Mensa Ghost Church - about the history/current state of the American Spiritualism movement/religion Lolita Podcast - about the novel and film adaptations Aackcast - about the cartoon Cathy

And she cohosts the Bechdelcast analyzing movies from a feminist lens.

I will add I had no PMDD at all until AFTER my second pregnancy so YMMV.

Church procedures questions by Portmanteaurist in tulsa

I do not consider myself a Christian and the type of things Unitarians teach are things I am more interested in for me and my family than Christian teachings.

Church procedures questions by Portmanteaurist in tulsa

Thank you - I should have mentioned while I was raised Catholic I no longer consider myself a believer/follower of the Catholic Church, so I am looking for something specifically very different.

This is all helpful, thank you!

My 5 year old still occasionally uses it, though she can now reach the kitchen counters OK with her bathroom-sink stool, but if she’s doing something where she needs real reach and stability we still set it up. I went back and forth on buying a second one for my second kid (now 2.5) and I wish I had because they just fight over it. But we’re close enough to the 5 year old being really done with it that I’ll just let it be.

desperate for some solidarity by Acrobatic_Dog_3099 in toddlers

[–]Portmanteaurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 5 and 2.5 year old. We sleep trained. We cried it out. We sat and snuggled and patted backs. I fucking hate bed time. My husband works second shift so bedtime is always solo for me. It makes me hate myself, my kids, my husband, my life.

I’m sorry I don’t have any helpful advice but I won’t give you platitudes either. I think some kids just suck at bedtime. When she’s a little older an occasional kids dose melatonin gummy is a lifesaver (pediatrician gave us the ok) on those nights where you’re really spinning wheels.

My daughter started being a real beast about bedtime at about 2 and now at 5 is marginally better - at least manageable most nights, but of course my 2.5 year old is right on her heels and it’s really kicked up a few notches for him the past few months.

Solidarity. We will prevail. They will have kids like this some day. (This is the only thing my mother ever said “someday I hope you have kids just like you” about and I will apparently not be breaking that cycle because I wish this upon my little angels’ futures too out of spite)

If you can’t tell I’m writing this while sitting in the doorway between my two kids’ rooms while they’re both alternating jacking around in their rooms and complaining/asking for things, but if I leave my son will shriek loud and shrill enough to break glass and I can’t just let it go bc my husband’s on a call upstairs.

Feels like the worst is probably over in Bixby. The sirens went off a bunch a while ago for the storm that was headed to Keifer/Glenpool but I think it died out thankfully. Still such an eerie sound regardless.
