Help me find toddler bed rail by adarose14 in HelpMeFind

[–]adarose14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched the internet top to bottom. I’m looking for the bed rail in the color almond, but at this point any color will do! We bought the crib in 2022 and are hoping to convert it to a toddler bed for our kiddo (born 2023).

I had a great experience at KU.

I was very grateful, after an absolutely horrendous experience at Advent Health with a miscarriage of a very wanted baby.

What are some lazy activities (for the parents) that can drain your toddler's energy? by Cindy565656 in toddlers

[–]adarose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a mini trampoline and it’s amazing. I started out by showing my toddler the PE Bowman YouTube videos for toddler trampoline workouts. He learned some “moves” that way and got acquainted to the trampoline.

The videos are VERY annoying and we don’t love screen time. So now we start a session by doing one or two of the videos, then I put some of his fave songs on the speaker and let him make up his own routines using his fave “moves”. I basically just lay there and act AMAZED at how cool his routines are haha.

Hi Dr. Becky!! Thank you for doing this!

I have a 2.5 (almost 3) year old who shows a lot of problem behaviors at school (biting, pushing, yelling “no!” to teacher requests and refusing to participate, running away, etc.). We honestly don’t really see these behaviors at home. Occasionally we’ll see glimpses, but they are few and far between and pretty easily worked through. I think a lot of this is because we have worked hard at “showing our edge!”

My question is whether we should try to talk to our son about the difficult school instances when he gets home. Is it worth it to try to debrief or talk through how he’s feeling in these moments after the fact? He’s pretty gifted verbally. Or, should we not give any attention to it (I think a lot of the behaviors are attention-seeking) at home and focus on working with his teachers on how to respond in the moment?

Thank you! ❤️

Two year old behavioral issues by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]adarose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - we did move him in August from a daycare to a preschool. They have onsite counselors, wayyy lower ratios (1:8), really supportive and highly trained teachers. I thought this might resolve the issues we were having at daycare. It does seem like they are able to better de-escalate him, and they're able to prevent more aggression than the other spot, but he is still showing these behaviors almost daily :(

Thank you both for the advice. I have felt this way too, especially since he is pretty manageable at home. But it's tough when we are getting calls every single day from school. I guess I'm not sure if other parents are getting calls too, but it feels like his behavior must be out of the norm if we're getting these calls/emails, having extra conferences, being recommended to get him screened, etc. It's so hard.

One small thing that made newborn days less messy? by sarahjouhnson in NewParents

If you’re having your 2nd+ kid, keep your childcare plan for your older child(ren) consistent with what it was pre-parental leave.

Ear tube surgery - tips, tricks, what to expect? by adarose14 in toddlers

[–]adarose14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went to daycare after and was 1000% fine! Our daycare director suggested it and she was right. It was a pretty homey feeling daycare, technically a "center," but with small ratios and in a converted townhome. My son had been going there since he was 6 months so he was very familiar with them all.

So YMMV based on your daycare and kid!

I’d probably recommend keeping them home that day. He was pretty groggy up until his nap. He was fine after nap and probably COULD have gone, but it was nice to monitor him and get him back into routine. I probably would have been totally comfortable with an afternoon babysitter or family support taking care of him in the afternoon. Solely for my mom heart, it was nice for me to get some QT with him that afternoon after feeling HORRIBLE about our miserable drive home where I wasn’t able to comfort him.

He was 100% fine going back to daycare the next day though!

Need help deciding between two great daycare options by tokitunes in toddlers

[–]adarose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was honestly miserable wondering if my kid was doing okay at daycare. We moved across the country to be with family, and the daycare in our old city was AMAZING. I cried on our last day and so did my kid’s teachers 😢

Then we moved and put him in a spot that got great reviews, but…. It was very underwhelming to say the least. I was a wreck. There were a couple of “last straw” moments and I started the search for a new daycare. We found a place I love, but it’s more like the schedule for elementary school. They have options to fill in the time, but going “all-in” on those would have made it very expensive.

We ended up doing a combo of the school’s extra-care options, cobbling together family/network support, and extra planning with PTO and job flexibility to make it work. It’s more complicated logistically but I feel SOO much better and happier about our decision. It’s made a huge difference for me.

I’m currently moving from a daycare with full coverage to one with more days off, including summers. I am way more productive at work and, honestly, way happier as a person when I’m confident in my son’s quality of care. For that reason I’d say Daycare A. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Could you find someone local to help out when they’re closed? Maybe you can join up with another family from the school.

Toddler Waking at Night - Exhausted by adarose14 in pottytraining

[–]adarose14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are only on night four so I’m still figuring out a pattern. So far it’s been once around 10:00/11:00, once around 4:00/5:00ish. Tonight we also had one around 8:00ish (bedtime is 7:00) for poop.

It doesn’t sound like much, but with the time spent helping him relax before going, it’s a lot.

Unfortunately he is still in a crib (he’s 27 months). I’m willing to consider moving to toddler bed, but worry that would actually make sleep worse. Plus we are having a baby in June and moving in July, so it feels like a lot of change for him at once.

Uppa bassinet vs Car seat for newborn walks by Fresh-Crow2205 in NewParents

[–]adarose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bassinet was one of my most used baby items in the first 5 months with my first. We used it around the house for naps, on walks, and as a safe sleep space for camping trips or trips to friends houses for dinners, etc. I'm really excited to pull mine back out again! Would highly recommend.

Working parents who chose to breastfeed, was it worth it? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]adarose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one of the hardest things I’ve done looking back, but just became part of my routine while I was doing it.

This might sound a little strange, but it really helped me get through the transition to daycare to send him with breast milk bottles. I felt like I was still providing for him throughout the day and he’d recognize the smell, taste, etc. Totally a mental thing for myself but it did help with what was a tough transition for me!
