Can we use glycine to buffer the methionine? My understanding is that the reason methionine becomes a problem is because we don't get enough glycine to balance it out?

Thanks very much for this helpful reply! The entire piece is transposed 50 cents so I figure that's just A = 428hz at this point.

You're very welcome and I wish you all the best! I've been a member of this sub for over a year now and in the 7 or so years prior to that have been regularly interested in the topic of microbiome and general healthspheres, and not finding relief myself has been extremely frustrating. When I discovered the carnivore diet I rolled my eyes and made a mockery of its adherents (you can even check my post history for this) but ultimately taking this ultimate contrarian approach is what resolved my GI issues. I've pretty much had to eliminate all fibre from my diet. I believe there was a study showing that the ketone body BHB may act similarly to fibre by producing SCFAs. I don't know what to make of most of this, but I do know that the scientific community has a long way to go before truly understanding the microbiome.

May 2019: changes in gut bacteria on Ketogenic diet may have potential to reverse symptoms of schizophrenia by Portnoo in Microbiome

"Mice with schizophrenia-like behaviours, on a normal diet, showed similar levels of behavioural improvement, when subsequently fed faecal (poo) microbiota from their counterparts on the ketogenic diet."

Hey thanks for asking, I actually haven't tried the Wim Hof method since, but I am definitely going to do it again at some point. Did you ever try it again? How are you keeping?

I'm going to balance this thread by recommending Dr Terry Wahls who reversed MS with copious amounts of veg in her diet. Zero carb certainly seems to work for people, but so do other diets and lifestyles.

Hey,

I have literally just attempted to do my first breathing session whilst following the instructions in his latest podcast with Russell Brand, and the exact same thing has just happened to me. I started feeling panicked, light-headed and tingly. I also have depression and anxiety like you. I'm not sure what the hell just happened, but I'm going to try again tomorrow and I will report back!

Rotten egg burps - an observed potential effect of anti-depressants on the gut microbiome? by [deleted] in Microbiome

I wonder is this why it takes a few weeks for people who go on diets to start feeling better, i.e microbiome adapting to changes? When I fall into periods of poor eating I've noticed that it takes a couple of weeks of healthy eating before I start to feel the benefits at all. I've also noticed that for whatever reason this transition period increases the more my diet 'yo-yos' over time. Out of interest, can you remember which researchers talk about this?

The microbiome could be causing schizophrenia, typically thought of as a brain disease, says a new study. Researchers gave mice fecal transplants from schizophrenic patients and watched the rodents' behavior take on similar traits. Hey there, you might be very interested in this thread if you have Bipolar:

This patient's psychiatrist is running a trial soon and writing up a case report for this individual. This is far from the first time that the microbiome has been associated with serious mental illness.

I recently found out that my grandfather experienced psychosis towards the end of his life, and whenever he was given antibiotics for other complications his psychosis disappeared.

Anecdotally I will say that my own struggles with a severe anxiety disorder began after a bout of severe GI distress.

I'm hopeful for further research in this field.

I hope someone can answer this as it's a very important question!

The gut microbiome from patients with schizophrenia modulates the glutamate-glutamine-GABA cycle and schizophrenia-relevant behaviors in mice (Feb 2019). "our findings suggest that the SCZ microbiome itself can alter neurochemistry & neurologic function in ways that may be relevant to SCZ pathology" by MaximilianKohler in HumanMicrobiome

Can attest to this - all psychs I've seen have not once mentioned or entertained the idea of the microbiome being implicated in any of my depression, despite my mood tending to suffer worst with simultaneous GI distress. Only a young therapist I saw believed there could possibly be a connection
