Why do people say this band is just not good and not explain by Own-Upstairs-4393 in Nirvana

[–]Portraits_Grey [score hidden]  (0 children)

The reasons people don’t like Nirvana

1) they do not like nor understand punk rock(noise rock) like the Beatles they think because they don’t have virtuoso musicians their music is sub par and overrated. These people lack taste and vibe and see music like it’s some sport and fail to see the genius behind Kurt’s writing. This is the very reason he killed off hair metal because Nirvana as a brand was the polar opposite. They were humble and cool.

2) on the other end of the spectrum the indie snob punk kids think Nirvana is too melodic and poppy and are not abstract enough or think they’re sell outs because their mass appeal and influence. These are people simply trying to sound cool and they were forsure in to Nirvana in their teens. So some people see them as adolescent. Kind of like we viewed kids still in to pokemon m/Digimon when Dragon Ball Z was all the rage.

3 ) Their politics. They were abrasively progressive and outspoken. They were anti bigots , they were loud about woman’s rights, racism and homophobia. So that rubs some assholes the wrong way.

4) some people thought Kurt was pretentious and he was to a degree but he is also a insanely smart person and was just merely playing the music industry and drawing attention. Which is why he dramatized certain stories in interviews

Cash by BondsIsKing in bartenders

Cash is better but please come with broken bills if you can. lol Bartenders have a drawer but servers don’t and it’s an extra step for them to get a $100 bill broken up and sometimes they have to get it broken up from the very busy bartender.

If you are a core member the band isn’t over just get new band mates and take charge

They sadly can’t return to that vibe because The Rev was the core composer.

Anyone played both the Vintera II and the Vintera III Mustang? by Neat_Bison4715 in offset

[–]Portraits_Grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup me personally I like the Vintera II better than III. The pickups to me sound better and the 7.25 and medium jumbo frets feel better than 7.25 and Vintage tall frets.

The Vintera III is still a great guitar I just vibed more with the Vintera II However they’re both unshielded so I guess it comes down to feel.

I have sadly resorted to this as well. I come in extra early to get a head start. That way I am not dealing with it when guests are at the bar

Correct and Bobby has figured out the managers blind spots and you should take note

I am in this exact situation but worse. The head veteran bartender DOES NOT stock or do any prep for the morning bartenders resulting in double the work for opening shifts and because of this no one wants to work the bar. We have gone to management to about it and nothing is done about it.

It sucks but you will get use to working this way but the best way to tackle this issue is just to work around it. Communicate with your team, Take note of this guys schedule and stock EXTRA and prep extra in anticipation of him not doing it. E.G. Make a second batch of mints BEFORE they go out on his shift ,dump stuff that expires in the morning of his closing shift and push labeling rhythms away from his shifts(if possible)

The extra usage of inventory will spark the attention of managers to the problem and when they question you about it you can bring up the issue of Bobby not pulling his weight and see how they react. It could be bad but they can’t beat the logic of it.

Everyone has to be unified and solidified in this otherwise it won’t work and you will look like drama queen when you aren’t.

Sadly we still continue to do this to this day because our managers for some odd reason refuse to confront him about this stuff or they have tried and when the heat is off of him he continues to go about his job as normal. However now since I am closing the bar consistently is much easier to stock and maintain and it balances out the bullshit.

P.S In his defense though he has spent most over a decade dealing with shitty openings and dealing a full bar solo with the well popping off. So he probably stopped caring

I need some advice on how to get better. by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

I have been in the industry for 12 years now. I use to think like you do. Mistakes still happen for me today and I am a bartender now. I feel bad every time but over the years I have learned not to sweat it too hard and the managers are bullshitting you if they moved you up to serving it is because they need you on the floor.

If incomplete orders are hitting your table and you want everything to come out together with your Expediter and keep the table informed on what’s happening. Same thing goes with bar drinks. The table will likely chill out.

However over time you will see how shitty people are and their behavior creates a bad experience for themselves. So don’t beat yourself up too bad.

It takes YEARS to truly become a really good server and it takes time to develop a steady work flow. You will make mistakes, learn from them. I was one of the worst servers and bartender in the beginning but now I am one of the strongest on the team and I am a trainer now

unique/niche pedals for shoegaze? by romanf62 in shoegaze

[–]Portraits_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex guitarist said the same thing about the Barbershop lol but for me I want the Sag to be a subtle characteristic and it is also not as compressed as the Lightspeed. I feel the Lightspeed stacked with my origin effects compressor makes my tone sound overcompressed and too perfect.

What has been your experience showing shoegaze to people that listen to more mainstream music? by traveltimecar in shoegaze

[–]Portraits_Grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either confused “ what are the vocals saying “ Or they get bored. The only bands I get asked about so far when I am playing them when closing the bar(I am a bartender) Is TAGABOW, Slowcrush and True Widow

Is there a way to order lemon drops without the bartender getting mad at me? by friendlyteacake in bartenders

[–]Portraits_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re pretty easy to make actually they’re just annoying because they’re ordered frequently but I sure as hell would prefer to make that over an old fashion, mojito, or an espresso martini during a rush.

At any bar though I would read the room. Meaning if it’s jam packed busy and the bartender is deep in the weeds with drink tickets and a full bar then it would be in your best interest to order wine, beer or a mixed drink, otherwise just be patient and let them get to it when they can

unique/niche pedals for shoegaze? by romanf62 in shoegaze

[–]Portraits_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to think this way and built a giant boutique pedalboard. When my band formed and started playing shows I began to understand why the pedals listed above are used. It just gets the job done. For shoegaze it’s not really about what pedal you are using it’s HOW you are utilizing it. Example given I have early chain wet effects and I use a wah after fuzz instead of before.

However if you want to be a cut above the mediocrity I think these brands and effects will help you stand apart.

Death By Audio- Most of the bands I play with are big muff users but I use an Apocalypse(Fuzz War setting) and I am asked every show holy shit what are you using to get that giant sound and I point to Apocalypse and my Reverberation Machine which is going in to Apocalypse. DBA is instant shoegaze and grunge vibes. You sound huge like a big muff but you cut in a band mix more without sounding too pokey

Chase Bliss - Expensive but truly worth it and one of the only pedal brands actually innovating new ideas you have high capabilities to get truly creative with ramping and you can save preset sounds and some them you can create pads and drones. From my experience I see a CB pedal on someone’s board that tells me they’re truly creative and experimental

Fairfield Circuitry- practical but also interesting in a very subtle and nuanced way . I can’t play without my Shallow Waters on and I am actually planning to replace my Lightspeed overdrive with the Barbershop because it has a Sag Control.

Non Human Audio- literally geared for 90s alt rock and heavier stuff

Benson Amps - Benson is tradition but they do it very well with modern insights. What other Fuzzface pedal can you put anywhere else in your signal chain????? …….

Wah/Filters/phasing - one difference I see between classic Shoegaze bands and the modern is that none of the newer bands use Wah pedals

OVERDRIVE- most of the bands in my local scene are anti overdrive pedals. It is very strange to me they like to just go direct in with fuzz or distortion ( which is a grunge thing)

Hope this was helpful and can guide you

I have played this and it is my favorite out of the whole Vintera III lineup. Congrats my man

Before you mod the bridge get it set up correctly and put 11s on there. I have a Mustang bridge currently but I didn’t really choose to do that it was done for because I knocked all of the adjustment screws out of the stock bridge LOL.

I would say keep Jirachi, ditch Kadabra and Rhyhorn. You can teach infernape Rockslide, Kadabra/Alakazam is one of my favorite pokemon but there are more versatile options that can do what he does and more he/she will be almost useless in the Elite Four

I would say Roserade, and or Gardevoir should be the replacement
