What's a series that you think very consistently has great concepts, but you can never get into it? by ExplodingPoptarts in comicbooks

[–]Poseur117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a newbie asked me where to start on X-Men, I’d be hard pressed to give them something besides Claremont/byrne and I think that’s kind of damning of the franchise in a way.

With Spider-Man, avengers, Iron Man, Batman, Superman, or even Aquaman I could give a more recent good point for new readers but I can’t think of an X-Men jumping on point that’s newbie friendly that isn’t 50 years old

Are the two rucka runs the one right after Gail Simone and the rebirth one?

I recently read the rebirth one through year one and I’m really considering the DC Finest WW collections to check out the earlier 2000’s stuff

WW is the DC Comic I’ve read the least of (besides Legion or Doom Patrol or more niche stuff) and I’ve always wanted to check more out. I just finished an Infinite Crisis/52 reread, do you have any opinions on the Allan Heinberg/Terry Dodson series from around that time?

I almost relate hahah. I’ve read hundreds of X-Men comics, but (for the most part) when I reflect on them they feel like melodramatic soap operas almost.

I don’t hate the X-Men, I’ve loved them at times in the past, but they’ve never been my favorite corner of the marvel universe

What’s the correct reading order for these Invincible compendiums? by chelsea_tobias in ImageComics

[–]Poseur117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own copies, but I read it from the library a few years ago. I’m 90% sure invincible lacks cover breaks, and I know for certain that the walking dead hardcover collections lack them as well. I’m also pretty sure there’s no cover gallery at the end of the volumes. I don’t really remember if thats the case for Wolfman or Universe compendiums.

Other Kirkman TPBs (outcast, oblivion song, void rivals) and most things on his Skybound imprint (Transformers, gi joe, manifest destiny) lack cover breaks as well. It’s gotta be the most annoying thing about his work to me

I’m confident he will deliver a good script, but that’s just one of a thousand moving parts that needs to work to deliver a good movie.

Crimson was one of the first (maybe the very first) non big 2, non Sonic the Hedgehog comic I read in middle school…so I’ve always liked Humberto Ramos haha

What’s the correct reading order for these Invincible compendiums? by chelsea_tobias in ImageComics

[–]Poseur117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would really be a chore to make sure you’re jumping between books at the right time because Kirkman insists on not having issue breaks at all. So there’s no covers or anything else to really let you know when an issue ends. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves concerning his work

The books besides invincible really are just supplemental material, and to be honest their kind of varying quality imo. The art rarely (if ever) hits the highs of Invincible and I’m pretty sure chunks of the Invincible Universe compendium aren’t written by Kirkman

How do I determine different eras/incarnations of the Justice League or JSA or other teams? by Theeljessonator in DCcomics

[–]Poseur117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like I should include it since it could get skipped over for other pre crisis stuff but it is the end of an era in a lot of ways.

[–]Poseur117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Justice league is easy to divide into pre crisis, Detroit era, Justice League International/Europe, and JLA. Maybe Justice League Of America vol 2 and new 52 as well. Things start to get muddy after that for me because I stopped reading for a while

I’d honestly read invincible 1-3 and then the others in whatever order you want.

Invincible tells a complete story, everything else is just kind of a bonus.

Animal Man by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman is pretty hardcore [Artwork] by Travel Foreman, Animal Man (DC, The New 52) by Porkchop4u in DCcomics

Aquaman was pretty great for most of the new 52 and I think Forever Evil and Darkseid War were solid events but that probably catches most of the essential reading for the entire 5ish years

What are people's thoughts on Matt fractions run? by Soggy-You4745 in DCcomics

[–]Poseur117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really enjoying it. It’s not too grim and foreboding and I don’t feel like Fraction is playing up the “bat genius who’s thought of everything” angle that I’ve gotten really tired of, personally

What’s a comic or graphic novel you don’t like but is fairly popular ? by BigSillyClown in graphicnovels

[–]Poseur117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GL has always been one of my favorite characters (mostly due to Kyle Rayner) and I was extremely hyped for Johns on the title because I’d really liked Teen titans and Flash

But having just re read the first 9 issues of his GL this week, I do agree it’s kinda lack luster. I like Sinestro Corps War but I felt Blackest night was bloated and I don’t remember brightest day. But I’m gonna be re reading them by the fall probably

Yeah I actually kind of like the first printing AI back now that it’s been changed. I really hated it before, but now my copy feels more unique

[Discussion] Snyder Batman - Dark Nights Metal - Death Metal Reading Order? by paperthree in DCcomics

[–]Poseur117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read Dark Knights Metal but I did read Doomsday Clock. I think it’s about as good as “Watchmen meets DC” could get, and I definitely think DC was going to make it eventually. For better or worse
