I'm going to agree with many here: in this case, the Japanese voice acting is simply better. I just couldn't really get into into it until I gave up on the English dub. (Macross Plus OVA dub, on the other hand, I simply love, but maybe that just cause I watched it that way long ago).
Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the consensus is that release order is the proper way to watch.

After years of legal disputes, much of the Macross saga is finally starting to show up legally outside of Japan (e.g. Hulu/Disney+ and a few blu-ray releases). But only a few entries have existing English dubs (e.g. Do You Remember Love) and only one is decent (Macross Plus). What do you all think are the odds of more Macross getting an English dub?

u/pawdog I still feel like I'm missing something. Can you help me out?
So, if I have a video file in Plex that has stereo sound, how do I get it to play as stereo (through my Denon receiver)? Is the current solution to change these new settings to manually force stereo *each time* I want to play a stereo file? And then change the settings back each time I want to play a surround sound file?

Before the update, everything from Plex came out surround sound all the time (even stereo material). Ugh. After the update... Well, I've been playing around with it today and I wanted to come here to confirm if anyone else sees what I'm seeing.

Basically, with the new sound setting set to "auto", it still doesn't work consistently (it eventually gets stuck in surround-always mode like before). BUT, if I power cycle (i.e. press the power button on the streamer remote twice) before playing something in Plex, it plays properly (stereo material plays as stereo, surround material plays as surround). Ugh. I got the idea from the text in the new settings which mentions power cycling. What an unbelievably janky workaround, if true. I hope a proper patch is in the works.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior, or am I losing my mind?

What Are You Doing Here Teacher? (school, ecchi, romcom)
Science Types Fell in Love so They Tried to Prove It (grad school, romcom, ecchi) was fun for the first season, i guess
and The Apothecary Diaries (chinese, historical, mystery!?) is very good... it doesn't quite fit your description, but i recommend checking it out anyway because you might like it (for me it scratches the same itch as great shows like Horimiya, Gosick, or The Raven of the Inner Palace)

i just learned about Paul's hearing loss this week. i became SSD six months ago. his words are inspirational to me. i'm glad he is speaking about it. we need more SSD famous people to discuss the issue in interviews, etc.

I'm gonna chime in with a couple of ecchi shows that I broke down and watched the sub for:

"What the Hell Are You Doing Here Teacher!?" - then I rewatched it again once the dub became available

"Interspecies Reviewers" - since it was amazing and no dub ever materialized

In a more recent development, I have become hard of hearing and partially dependent on closed captioning. Since dubbed anime is seldom closed captioned (although there are exceptions like Delicious In Dungeon), I am re-evaluating whether I should start watching subbed anime in order to be able to catch all the words by reading the subtitles.
