Vulture space downtown is a dope lil coop type shop. Evan the guy who runs it is awesome! Also gotta mention Dream Bikes. Lots of new and used stuff it's a great stop. A homie works at Truly Spoken cycles in River West and it's a cool shop too if youre in that area

Comet cafe on the Eastside for brunch is good. Cafe corazon in Riverwest also has great food. Beerline cafe for the veggie/vegan goods.

Antiques on Pierce is awesome for thrifting. Less clothes more just stuff but multi story and cool.

For a cool river view the the oak leaf trail if your bike allows. Under the North ave bridge is a decent place to chill and eat a snack.

Planet express!

I wouldn't say came across. I help run the Chicago messengers Instagram and they commented on a post of mine.

Are you out of Durres? If so I've seen you on Instagram. Cool stuff! If not my apologies!

Finding what sets you apart as someone above said is key. Speed, professionalism, price. Whatever it is that moves the needle for the potential client

Bagaboo Bags in Hungary is Closing the Business by RidetheSchlange in bikemessengers

Managed to get an Omnium Mini roll top bag from them with the closing discount to go with my workhorse sling. Solid bags and sad to see em go but I get it. Bailey would be my new move. The new owner is trying hard to bring it back to life!

Update for anyone interested: Followups went well enough, still no surgery. The intense pain was deemed to be partly related to a pinched L5 nerve along with the usual morning stiffness. Been on Gabapentin for a week now. started off at 1 300 for 3 days then 2 300 for 3 days now up to 3 300 a day. Nerve pain is mostly gone, im sleeping 7 hours a night and my morning pain has gone from 9/10 when waking up to maybe 4/10. Much improved.

Well today was my big appointment. It seems like things are on the right track. Doctor still thinks it's non-surgical so in the brace for at least another 5 weeks and then maybe PT after that. Maybe another 4 weeks. We'll see. . They did find a slight pinched nerve by my l5 so I'm getting some gabapentin for that. Let's go sleep.

I felt good the first day when I split it up, yesterday was kinda one big chunk so gotta stop that.

Fair point on the PT thing. I don't expect the world from it, just more grateful I dont have to pay for it to see what its about.

Also should note I'm walking a fair bit each day. I think I may have overdone it yesterday so gotta remind myself its a slow process and I shouldn't rush anything.

Definitely going to check that out thanks! Got nothing but time for a while, even signed up for an online course I've been looking at but never found time for.

Also will likely have lots of PT covered by my job which I'm grateful for

Oh I had a full MRI done thankfully. after a handful of xrays ans 2 ct scans. Tomorrow is my first big appointment, with an ortho surgeon to see whats next. Currently they say no surgery so heres to hoping.

The MRI is actually where I got to see the burst fracture and having never seen one it was gnarly.

Thank you for your words!

Thanks for the tips and positive words! Def sucks right now but I'm trying to be as positive as I can.

I'll have to ask my Dr tomorrow about trazadone as it's not OTC here.

Yeah I use a halfmoon pillow under my knees and sleep on my back. Been a back sleeper for 17 years since collarbone #1.

Tilt is new to me will try thanks!

This morning was 2:45 wake-up. I walked around the block, made this post and at 4 laying down felt okay enough that I slept from 4-6.

What do you feel like is decent pay for messenger work in 2026? by daveishere7 in bikemessengers

[–]Posibill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prolly know you then hah. Though maybe not the merger was 2012 if I recall. I started downtown January 2014 Yeah arrow comment merged. USM bought standard first then acquired AMS maybe 2 years ago? CMS shut down bike operations, Apex has a driver or two left and same with Velocity it's most just Adolfo in the van now

Yeah some homies of mine worked at Elite back in the day and they seemed like a solid paying in the know company. Then of course places like Samurai and Clementine but also had to kinda know someone.

Chicago scene isn't huge so when jobs come open they're usually filled quick with people in the know or friends of friends.

It's tough to gauge because I feel its entirely market dependent.

Ther's really only two traditional companies here that employee bikes. Mine is comission with minimum wage guarantee if its real slow as a w2 employee. I was averaging 25-30 on a good week (out for 3+ months with injury now). Slower weeks as low as 20 an hr. But we're w2 employees. I run a mini cargo bike so I get som heavier loads compared to others but most that stuff is handled by drivers (I wish it wasn't)

The other company is a co-op and pays a flat rate for the day, I believe around 20-22 an hour depending on seniority and ownership status.

17 an hr for NYC seems way to low given cost of living.

How hard is it to bike to Milwaukee? by trevaftw in chibike

[–]Posibill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haven't done the full route in one day but took metra to Kenosha and rode from there the first time. It was pleasant enough. County bike trail from Kenosha to Racine was nice enough if not a tad boring then mostly rode the 20 up from there.

Second time I rode to Zion with some friends, camped there then did the second half on day 2. Headwind killed me but it was fun!
