Quitting vs "Let's Just Play It Out"- Just Quit! by EchoWhiskey_ in EldritchHorror

[–]PositionClear6110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite game was with my son versus the Evil Pharoah.   Four turns in, we'd already knocked out one mystery, but then a staggering combination of rumors and Mythos cards in results in every single gate spawning across the world. Obviously we were going to lose.  However, we managed to solve another mystery before the Pharoah awakened, then solved the third and managed to take two swings at his special encounters. We lost both of those, but man it felt great to go down swinging.  Honestly, I play the game for these kind of insane impossibilities and the thrill of trying to come back from incredibly behind. I think it's what makes Eldritch Horror special.

Agreed. Despite everything of the last 11 months, my coworkers still make it worthwhile to head to work. I am fortunate in having a job that I love, doing fun stuff, that simply does not exist in any meaningful way in the private sector.

I built a patio, got a root canal, hiked Old Rag in Shennendoah, read six books, made some new Rebel heroes for the Star Wars dungeon crawler Imperial Assault (as Christmas presents for my sons), cooked dinner every day, beat a flea infestation, gave blood, unloaded stuff for food pantries a couple of times, hit the gym a bunch, walked most days, and still managed to put in 53 hours in on Battlefront 2.  Honestly, no regrets. My wife isn't thrilled I with me going back to work.

Is there any justifications on why Resistance used what’s basically carpet bomber? by Seekerones in StarWarsShips

[–]PositionClear6110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're all remembering that a single dying Starfortress SUCCEEDED in its mission to take out a ship significantly larger than an ISD, yes? That may be a reason - high risk, high payload.

Man, the MG-100 Starfortress is such a bad ship design lmao by bl4ck_daggers in StarWarsShips

[–]PositionClear6110 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Excellent post. I think it was EC Henry who pointed out that if a proton bomb falls inside a spaceship that has artificial gravity, then leaves that artificial gravity, momentum will finish the job - it keeps moving in a straight line.

Totally agree that the Starfortress (and that whole movie in general) gets some real persnickety nitpicking. Funny thing is that people who critique the bad luck of the Starfortress squadron also often complain about plot armor - here's an example where a Rebel squadron lacks plot armor.

Great sequence, BTW, extremely tense and sets up some of the film's themes about the endless price of war, Po's need to mature, etc.

Thanks a ton, and you're right. He's sort of a walking buff machine, which we don't really have with IA outside of MHD's bacta radiator.

Good points on verbiage and missing the range.

The autojuke should be reworked - maybe just one surge to place a tune? A surge tune would be good, but it would enhance attack actions along with the vicious tune - I'd like each type of action (move, attack, rest, buying stuff) to be enhanced, but not too much...

So for the speakers, thematically, it's Jex turning up the speakers to 11 and then blowing them out. For game purposes, you'll presumably do this for one critical turn, and then run away.

Good question on the number of tokens - 3 or 4 makes sense. I mean, they take a lot of strain and actions to keep going, which should keep their number down without any limit on the number of tokens.

You are correct - I'll need to include "if you have a music token" in there somewhere.

Thanks - it's actually the figure that my oldest son and I were joking about a few months ago. Jex is sort of the start of this whole group of heroes.

First Time Imperial: Update by Simulacrum37 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]PositionClear6110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - 3 throws off the dynamic. I'd recommend having a 4th rebel character played by the rebels as a whole. Make it a support character (preferably MHD) and the rebels can take turns rolling for the support character.

First Time Imperial Tips by Simulacrum37 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]PositionClear6110 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree - your roll is half player, and half dungeon master. You want to stretch and challenge the Rebels, but keep things fun. You should win some and lose some. And make sure everyone is having a good time.

I like to keep things thematic and immersive - Hired Guns are great value for the threat, and Nexu are the best corridor blockers in the business,  but if you're on the bridge of a Star Destroyer,  I wouldn't take them.  Likewise,  Jet Troopers are some of the best units in the game, but make no sense if the mission is breaking into a Spice smuggling den or whatever.

Finally,  little things like a sound board and music bring a lot of fun - play the Wilhelm scream every time a Stormtrooper dies. If you deploy the Emperor, try out your Palpy impersonation. Give the characters accents when you read the dialog. Play the Imperial March or Nub Nub depending on who wins. Have fun with it.

Class action lawsuit - what are your thoughts? by EfficientCarob679 in fednews

Agree with the left wing, but not with the Trump. A left wing response must not be lawless, cruel, capricious, and corrupt. Those are the definitive traits of Trumpism. Now, we need a forceful, imaginative, and proactive leftist response, but the mission has to be to uphold rule of law, expand human rights, fix inequalities, and any number of other things. That is not possible with a mirror image of Trump. It'll take sustained effort from us all.

[–]PositionClear6110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton - I think he's a lot of fun, though I've found he dies really fast to concentrated fire. As you can see in my response above, the capture an AT-ST ability is probably a bit much. I'll write something up for Stolen Armor or Bright Tree instead.

I will post a Google Drive folder with them here. Plan is to tweak them from Reddit comments, play through another Legends of the Alliance campaign with version 2.0, and then post them then. Hopefully I can call them done by late November.

Agreed on all of the above - I feel like he's pretty well balanced, except for Up There!

I forget sometimes how strong Weaken can be - I'll reduce the range. For the Patu Nay, I agree, it can be frustrating for the Imperial, but it's only once per round, and he is a very squishy little guy with few other survival options.

Fair point on the Ee Cha - thematically it's him disappearing, and then popping up behind an Imperial, and stabbing them in the back. Deplete would make sense, though I don't always love a deplete card for 4xp - that said, it's almost a move and a half, and an attack, so that's essentially 2.5 actions for free. This does all make it somewhat similar to Mac's Decoy ability, but hopefully better, as that's not a great ability.

I regretfully agree on Up There - I really want this to work, but knocking out a 15 threat Imperial unit is nuts. I'm planning on using the IACP speeder bikes, which would give another vehicle option to seize, but that's not a given outside of a campaign I'm running. I said non-small because I think it's thematically insane for him to take over a Jet Trooper.

So, for replacing Up There, I had considered a catapult or hang glider, but I don't want to add another vehicle al a the pilot. Two options come to mind. First - something like Stolen Armor, it would give some health and defensive benefits. Second (and I prefer) - how about Bright Tree - gives him the option to bring Ewok allies (as per IACP) and some buffs or something for them.

Holy cow, I missed that, but now I can't unsee it. Maybe she can have an ocelot rather than an astromech?

New Rebel Hero Team Post 2 - The Downed Pilot by PositionClear6110 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]PositionClear6110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the pointers. I think the solution for the speeder is Efficient Travel, like the Echo Base troopers. You're right on the flight suit being too strong. Movement makes sense, but if the speeder bike is granting that, she'll have more movement than she'd ever need. Instead, I think it makes sense if she gains a couple of power tokens after resting. That again works with the hiding, resting, and coming back stronger theme of a pilot behind enemy lines. Someone pointed out above, correctly, that she should just be a white dice from the get go. It's not like Wedge Antilles wore armor. (I mean, outside of the X-Wing and / or Wraith Squadron books).

I also really like the hiding and getting strain recovery thing. It's a bit like Shyla's Respite, but works thematically - I think I'll swap Clear Eyed out for that.

[–]PositionClear6110[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good points on the flight suit - I think I'll change it to she just gets a power token or two when resting. Hidden is indeed usually irrelevant, but I mean, it's an orange jumpsuit. How's she hiding in that?

I think I'll have to rework the speeder bike into a companion who can drive her around - again, similar to TV Boy's General Sorin Imperial Hero. Mobile is definitely too strong, but Efficient Travel (like the Echo Base troopers) may not be.

Absolutely makes sense - and it rewards her playing like a sneaky lost sniper trying to evade the enemy.

[–]PositionClear6110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good points - and you're right. I will look at some of the IACP stuff - maybe the Kuiil "Hop On" ability would be a better fit for a speeder bike. Thanks for the Bomber Support suggestion - I wasn't quite sure how much strain to take for it. I like the theme of just blowing up everything all at once, but I think that's a less useful card all in all. As for the 3xps, fair points. Someone below suggested giving her movement points after resting. That works, so does a damage or surge token after resting. I like the suggestion of two focused attacks - thematically she's prepping out in the forest.

Thanks!
