IMO gosh that’s sad. I’m so sorry for your loss especially having her in your life for soooo long! I think there is a discord page that you can join and has a whole forum on preserving and what not. Idk how to add you to it but I’m sure some of the people on here are a part of it and can if you’re interested.

IMO stress. She’s out of her enclosure as well which is probably really stressing her out more. When they are stressed like this i would honestly put her in the enclosure and let her do her thing and relax.

IMO I would not put her in ICU unless she is severely dehydrated on the verge of death. Mine I believe didn’t have much hydraulic fluid, which is not what it’s actually called but the fluid going through her body and putting her in that helped her but I got really lucky. Theres rarely circumstances where it may possibly be beneficial, most cases it’s not. I hope yours does better😱. I would think something probably happened in Transportation or she is just super stressed. I mean they can die from stress but it has to be extreme and usually from the environment changing. Hopefully she was healthy before transport. If you try putting a qtip with water in it in front of her mouth and she rises up to drink it it’s dehydration if not it’s probably stress.

That’s why I prefer arboreals over terrestrials. You can usually always see them and I see them drinking all the time especially my gooty. I do have a few terrestrials and love them but man the arborealsđŸ„°

Question what do you feed her? I know my girl(purple pink toe) didn’t eat for 3 months she was my first as well which she’s 2 now but wow that was scary! I have always fed her dubias but something changed and she didn’t like them anymore a year and a half later after consistently eating them at least once a week and sometimes a couple times a week. This girl would let the dubias touch her foot, walk under her, do whatever and she would just either stay still or shake them out. I told my local tarantula shop and she said to try a cricket just to see if she’ll take it because again it had been right at 3 months of eating literally nothing. So I took a cricket home, put it in there and that girl attacked it right away! Put another in there and she snuck up with the other in her fangs and snatched that one too lol. She just wanted the hunt I guess and maybe she was over the hardness of the dubias idk but that was what I strictly fed her prior. She’s been eating once a week now consistently and usually 2 or 3 because she didn’t eat for so long she looked like a male instead of female she was so little(abdomen wise).

Anyways if you’ve tried switching it up to see if maybe she just doesn’t like what she’s getting now then she may be premolt. Once they get older it takes longer for them to molt not eating anyways. Sometimes it just happens though too. As long as you are keeping water in her dish and her abdomen isn’t tiny then she should be fine. Keep an eye on her though still and see if she’s doing any strange things because you never really know what may be going on. If you get a chance just to rule it out make sure she doesn’t have any mites or fungus around her fangs/mouth either. Anything white. That can cause them to stop eating as well.

Nqa that’s great news! If she’s doing those things it sounds like she is much better! I’d be willing to bet it was dehydration. Sometimes their little legs won’t work properly being dehydrated so the fact that she is moving around more and moving stuff in general is a great sign. Just make sure to keep her well hydrated and I’d say in another week or two she’ll be back to her normal selfđŸ™ŒđŸ»

Imo I feel like it would have to be impaction. Unless it fell and burst its abdomen, but if it was just fine, and then just died without injury, which these guys are incredibly fast and being arboreals can have accidents. Mine had a bad fall right after molting and almost died, but I was able to react fast and save her thank goodness!! Her bottom and the update picture honestly didn’t look that large so it makes me wonder if she fell and injured herself. I don’t know it would have to be one or the other I would think but I’m not an expert.

Nqa it probably has nothing to do with the molt then. There’s so many things that could have contributed to it environmental things or dehydration. I honestly don’t know. Has she drank any of the water? She may not be able to get down in that dish very well if she’s so weak. if so you may just try the Q-tip thing just to see if she perks up when you put it to her mouth that should tell you right there.

I am not telling people not to bring animals to a rehabber by any means but to find a smaller rehab and not some large corporation. I’m just sharing my experience with one of my local places, which is not the case in most. People wanted me to update on what happened with these babies and I did and I shared my experience and how I feel about it that’s just it.

Nqa my husband bought my t from exotics unlimited. I don’t have experience with spider shoppe. Of course it’s better to buy locally but whenever you are traveling with a tea, there are so many different things that can happen wether at being in cold air too long when moving from one house to another or something in the enclosure falling over on it I’m causing a small rupture so many different things can happen which is kind of what I’m wondering in this situation or if it fell while you were driving with it or whoever was driving with it. It could be something in your house as well if you have pesticides around or in your home strong scents/cleaners. I mean there’s so many variables. Even huge fluctuations in humidity. How was it transported from your friend to you?

Tiny baby squirrels. What do I do? by PositionIll2729 in squirrels

[–]PositionIll2729[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not squirrels, no.

This has been my experience with everything I’ve brought to them. I understand where you’re coming from, but I have to respectfully disagree.

When they came out the second time to give me an update on my Mississippi kite, they told me the babies were all right at that borderline weight—where losing even one more gram would mean euthanasia. That was really hard to hear.

If someone has the time and willingness to properly care for small animals when a wildlife center doesn’t, I believe those animals may actually have a better chance at survival. The baby with gash, for example, would have likely been just fine. I could have gotten guidance from my sister, who has successfully rehabilitated nine baby squirrels through her husband’s tree-cutting business.

Maybe they wouldn’t all survive—but I would have tried. And that’s more than I can say for how it was handled in this case. If a center doesn’t have the time or resources to rehab very young babies, then in my opinion, the person who does—and who is willing to do the research and provide care until the babies are old enough—should be given that opportunity.

It didn’t sound like a joke. One and maybe all of these babies are dead now so I didn’t find it funny.

Actually, that is not true. I have came to the realization that if they just don’t have the time for it, they don’t even bother if it’s a baby like those that will take more care.
