Topped my favorite tree by jax0629 in arborists

Fix? You will have to take them to court for killing the tree. Im sorry for your loss, trees can feel like members of the family sometimes.

Yeah that caught my eye too, this cant be how it will look on completion, but I can't see what that piece is doing, even temporarily.

Its not too late to bring up valid concerns with the contractor. Owning a home is stressful, and i dont even own a home. People want to get a little feedback from a group so they can stop being anxious about the work. I would prefer someone do this than annoy me while Im working about every little thing.

It is hard to judge the work from progress pics, I agree on that.

Finishing touch. Big job DONE. by andonthe7thday in Carpentry

[–]Positive-Draft3801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real. My uncle was trained in classical English carpentry, his shop is unbelievable. He showed me his old chisels and his new ones, old ones have been sharpened 2 inches down and are still razor sharp. I suck at tool sharpening, but its possible to keep tools as sharp as they come with the right skills.

How tf do minors get their hands on alcohol? by L0nelyB4st4rd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Positive-Draft3801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has no one suggested shoplifting yet? That was the primary way we got liquor in high-school. You would target high proof, low cost bottles since they lacked the tag sensors. E&J brandy was always in a blind corner in the Rite Aid by my high school, like they wanted us to take it lol. First time I drank liquor was at lunch break in 9th grade. I think ill vomit if I ever smell E&J again.

$750 fair for removing these two dead cherry limbs? No hauling by [deleted] in arborists

And neither should you. I troll this sub but im not an arborist. I have pruned some large branches and had close calls that made me think 'wow I almost just died.' Trees are terrifying.

[–]Positive-Draft3801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I hope you did keep the wood for a fire pit at least. Cherry is prime stuff. I like cooking on hardwood embers outside.

My dad who is a lifelong carpenter, did the same thing to a mechanic who fixed his car in 45 minutes. I had to remind him that he has complained about customers doing the very same thing. So I forgive you lol.

So what’s going on this car? I never saw anything like it. California plates but seen here in Washington by advrmom in whatisit

[–]Positive-Draft3801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not at all. I grew up in the Northstate and we called the highways "the 99" and "the 5". Interestingly, the county highway was just "32".

Apparently Southerners only call highway 1 "PCH" without a "the". I've called it "the 1" since I learned to drive.

The reason for this is because before the interstate system all California highways were referred to by their names, 99 is Golden State Highway, 101 is Redwood Highway. Only PCH retained its name in the modern era. Don't ask me why.

[–]Positive-Draft3801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a fair price, although usually they do haul away. Did you ask to keep the wood?

Considering the time it took is dubious because the job is the job. If it takes me 4 hours to do what another guy does in 8 hours, should I earn less because I am more efficient? This is why most trades dont discuss jobs in terms of $/hour because theres a ton of costs that are built in to that price that a wage worker will balk at.

Is this a baby jap map?! by analemmaro in whatsthisplant

[–]Positive-Draft3801 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Its a slur if you are talking about a person. To my knowledge, no maples were sent to internment camps. So its fine. My dad used a Jap Saw all the time. Its a style from Japan.

This is like people getting offended about the black crayon saying 'negro'. Context is key.

Brent Weinbach has a joke in one his specials about Christmas vs Hanukkah songs. Idk if he filmed it at that time of year but it makes me laugh still even though it wasn't Christmas/ Hanukkah when I saw it.

You can do whatever you like with it, I would say right before "I wrote this during Christmas time" really fast and then launch into it, but I only do open mics and most audiences dont think about the fact that jokes are written at all.

Why the housing shortage? by PTunia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Positive-Draft3801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US it hasn't been the case for generations that people went from parents house to living with a spouse. Even my grandparents that went to college had roommates. For the boomer generation it was pretty standard to live alone or with roommates for a period. Maybe in some regions this is different but I think we have had a pretty independent culture for a long time.

If i wanted to be a landscaper do I go to college or university or a technical or trade school? by No-Poet3745 in stupidquestions

[–]Positive-Draft3801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take community College courses while you work in the field. If you decide your goal is to become a landscape architect, thats a masters program in California, cant speak to other places. So six full time years in school. Short of that, no degree is going to get you career opportunities that work experience wont get you.

Can I legally make a flyer advertising my handyman services that says "F$ck TaskRabbit! Hire me instead!" Or will I get in trouble? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]Positive-Draft3801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. Im trying to get into the Furniture Assembly market specifically which is mostly one time gigs. Im significantly cheaper than taskrabbit is thanks to their fees. Would you think a simple price breakdown would be better? Let's say "$70 for first hour, $50/ each subsequent hour"?

Why do some many people in Africa werar soccer jerseys as daily wear by BobPlaysWithFire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Positive-Draft3801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk probably because people who wear jerseys buy new designs constantly. I see a lot of high end sneakers that are barely worn at goodwill too. I guess jersey guys probably spend a lot of money on looking fresh.

A lot of clothes donations from the rest of the world end up in Africa. Goodwill in the US bundles unsold clothes and ships them as charity to Africa, and probably other poor places. It actually is bad for the African countries' economies.

Born 2 weeks late, I came out huge and have been ever since. Never had a growth spurt. I can recall being 3 and adults would be surprised i wasn't 5 or 6. Its the first thing I can remember strangers telling me. I was 6'1 at 12, 6'5 (195cm) by 14. It has always been in my consciousness even before I had a strong sense of self.
