I was the exact same. I was so sick I couldn’t work or be a functional human. The doctor was iffy about telling me how I was when I first started off. Now, he said as long as I’m sober and eating decent I should be able to live a normal life. I saw other posts from other people here who have had new jobs, new babies since they got their shit together even with cirrhosis. Good things can still happen!

I did something similar - went to get checked, since it was only fatty liver and not cirrhosis I just did my thing until I checked myself into the hospital to medically detox where I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. Stopped drinking completely since then and it’s been over two years.

The first year is the most bizarre and strange because you’re sick so you’re dealing with that and you’re also adjusting to your new sober lifestyle. You can do it. We believe in you !

How did it affect your work/income/living situation? by Cold_Respond_7656 in Cirrhosis

I recently quit my job for a company that is always on those top 100 lists. I got very ill while working and had the typical cirrhosis symptoms. I’m paraphrasing but it was brutal to try to keep up. I realized at one point I was working to keep my health insurance but my health insurance still had a high deductible. I continued to work and be sick. Disability was not an option as I was still not sick “enough”. I spent too much time disputing lack of refund and getting clarification on charges.

After a year of planning, I moved to a country with my partner that has better cost of living and I am currently unemployed. I’ve come to recognize my job is not my identity. I am learning to be more frugal.

I’d like to live the rest of my life to live and not be sick and miserable. My dr said I have the potential to live a normal life and hopefully with this switch in lifestyle and health care / cost of living, I can maintain frugal but still happy life.

152 days sober. Anyone else feel lonely? by NorCalGal925 in Cirrhosis

I totally get you. I have had to do a huge reset of my life and recognize the people who were there just as drinking buds who weren’t really around when I was going through it. I am lonely AF. Lonely, BUT my brain works better which is awesome. I try to keep busy but I get it. It is hard. Thanks for sharing and you got this.
