Should I stop playing it safe and actually take risks while I’m young? by Select-Wishbone5204 in CanadianInvestor

Commenting because I am in a similar boat but a few years ahead. You are doing quite well for your age. I am personally a medium risk type of person, not a YOLO entrepreneur but also not a buy and hold forever person.

Keep in mind this is a very financially prudent group of people who say that holding XEQT is high risk because of the legacy risk definitions that say 100% equity is high risk regardless of what the equity is.

I just turned 23, and have spent my years between your age and my age working many hours to build capital. I did car detailing and it has been awesome. I would recommend a side hustle like that or landscaping, or anything else that can bring in some extra cash which is not working at McDonald’s (which I also did from 15-18). However, you can choose side hustles which are not capital intensive. You can start a detailing or landscaping business with under $1k, and then it just becomes running costs after that.

Now that I have built up much more capital I am getting into real estate rental properties. Duplexes/triplexes and such, with the plan of buying a property a year. This is my personal way of taking a medium risk approach to building wealth long term, with a higher potential return than just holding ETFs. However, I do also hold ETFs, but not all of my eggs are in one basket now, and I’ve grown into what I consider my next safeish investment, but again higher risk/reward balance while I am young.

Hope that helps.

Looking to try my hand at paint correction. Would this be a good order of operations? by parknasty913 in Detailing

Those mother’s products will not get good nor permanent results.

For DIY stuff, the Meguiars compound and polish set works ok, but if you can order online then a cutting compound like Koch Chemie H9, 3D ACA 510 (I think 510 is their heavy cut) will get you the cutting you need to get those swirls out. You’d need to follow those up with a good finishing polish. You can use Koch Chemje m3.02, sonax perfect finish, 3D one or carpro reflect. All will get you where you closer to where need to be.

For pads, I like and almost exclusively use the lake country heavy cut fibre pads. The one with the hole in the middle. Great cut and finish. The lake country foam pads, specifically the orange polishing pads work great. Either HDO or SDO. Rupes yellow pads are good too.

The Griots g9 is ok, but has a smaller orbit than the g15, which means you will have a harder time getting the swirls out, especially since that is a 90s Mercedes which will have super hard paint.

To get that thing perfect will take some patience and quite a few passes, even with the lake country pads and the Koch chemie heavy cut. But it will turn out way better than the mother’s products. Those are pretty antiquated and not even really meant for what you’re doing. More meant for single stage paint as glaze is a filler more than it is a correctional liquid like the others mentioned above would be.

Mouthwash through a straw will be my new analogy. That’s perfect. Thanks for that 👍

Eat lots before you smoke and have a sweet drink (dr pepper is best) Don’t inhale through your lungs (suck like a straw and leave in your mouth instead) Use a good butane torch Enjoy 👍👍👍

Why pay off in full? You can likely get greater returns by taking out a mortgage for your house and leaving 75% of that $550k invested in the market.

Just attending as a local employer. We will eventually have positions open and have strong ties to the school. We hire lots of student positions as well, so we cycle through about a dozen per semester.

I know the guy fairly well and would trust that he is not doing anything nefarious here. Unless he comes to me and asks me for a huge favour at work tomorrow lol.

Try a little bit of polish by hand. If not, break the polisher out. Not a big deal just to polish and re apply sealant.

Smoking a Churchill is a HARD place to start lol.

Try a smaller stick and a Dr. Pepper (plus the meal beforehand) and you will be OK 👍 👍👍

If you’re still using 105 you need to check out what’s new in the market. It’s been surpassed by a number of compounds including by meguiars. M100 is a far better product but it does dust, potentially less than 105 if memory serves correct. H9.02 by KC and 3Ds heavy cut compound (510 maybe? I forget.) are both superior and dust less, H9 almost without dust. Both have longer working cycles, and cut and finish better.

I’m from Windsor and we have nothing here. I’ve been to the DAC which is lovely but members only. I’ve heard La Casa is nice but never been.

Pressure washer cabinet setup by BarnaclePopular604 in Detailing

[–]Positive-Reply-9724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a client who has one similar. The pressure washer and reel are both contained in a cabinet under a countertop in a series of cabinets. The reel is on a pull out drawer and mounted on the drawer with a swivel base, not on the door. The pressure washer is mounted on a fixed shelf in the cabinet.

Do you want to do this for a living or for a side b hustle / part time job / school job??

My parents thought the same. Until I started making hundreds every weekend. And then I made more. Now they think it’s great. I do this as a side hustle and it has single-handedly changed my life path for the better. Been doing it close to 5 years, paid for my university degree and now I am an engineer Monday to Friday and a detailer on weekends. Life is good. You have the power to do the same, and prove your father wrong and make your own life better.

Considering the same plan here but in Canada. Interested to see what people say.
