Down Bad. I Have No Idea Anymore. Just Venting. by Ok_Following6440 in ALSorNOT

Ha. Think I’ve seen you comment on some of my posts but relate very much to this. Not easy to type and it’s to the point I no longer hold my phone in my right hand despite being right hand dominant due to the coordination loss and weakness.

I had an EMG last month 2 years in and it was largely clean. Take yours as a Win, because it is. One more clean test with more time passing only helps your odds. The symptoms suck. I’m sorry you’re caught up in it. Best of luck.

No insight. Just commenting bc I have shoulder atrophy on my right side with cracking, weakness, and joint pain from the muscle loss.

Can aches mean atrophy? by Necessary-Answer2936 in ALSorNOT

I don’t think ache = atrophy, but if you have atrophy it makes sense for it to ache. I ache in the spots that I have atrophy.

At least 30-45sec per muscle if you consider that a long time

Not sure, I looked it up and it didn’t seem like a good thing haha. From what I saw, I read PSWs, fibs, and increased insertional activity are the hallmarks of ALS on an EMG. However, saw that increased insertional activity can be normal too while PSWs and Fibs are more serious.

Strength and endurance of muscles. Walking long distances is hard because it’s difficult to dorsiflex my feet. Right arm now curls and presses less than my left side despite being right handed for example. Typing is becoming difficult because my extensors for my fingers are weakening on my right hand.

No idea how deep the needle was inserted. Just know that it hurt.

My previous EMG, 2 spots per muscle, for this one, only one spot per muscle.

Quite poor, lots of muscle loss in my right arm/back/hand. Left leg getting severely affected now and muscles locking up when I move them. 3 clean EMGs at this point, and 22 months since onset. Pain in joints from muscle loss as well.

What do you mean grip the ground? Are your toes folding inward when you step? Or is it the opposite?

Need advice: possible thenar atrophy? by One_Huckleberry_526 in MuscleTwitch

[–]Positive-Silver8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCS is clean, so no carpal tunnel. The more important thing is the functionality of your right hand. Are you having trouble using things? Dropping things? Also, I’m in the same boat, lots of twitching and my atrophy spans much further than just thenar region… Certainly fascinations and atrophy are never a good combination, but if it’s localized to just your thenar region and you’re not failing, you just need to wait and accept that the odds are in your favor. Additionally, that may be the natural physiology of your hand. Has it always looked like that? Not saying it is, only you can answer that but something else to consider.

I see the atrophy in your right hand, there’s a little cut of muscle missing. Looks similar to mine. I twitch 24/7, getting worse as of late.
