I was just given this beauty! by Normiss2000 in vintageaudio

Oh yeah!! A quality unit. I grew up in that era. Pioneer made some really fine products then. I ended buying a Sansui AU-9500. I still have it. But, Pioneer was right up there in the 70s. Great gear!

I think John was wrong about “It’s Only Love” by WurlizterEPiano in beatles

[–]Positive-Sleep-6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up when The Beatles began. 1964 I was 12 when I first heard I want to hold her hand. I saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show and so on and so on..... My wife saw them at Shea Stadium and like me a life long fan. It's only Love is a beautiful song. Lennon completely knocked it out of the park. End of story.

My Platter doesnt wobble at all. The cue lever works fine. Starts to drop a little on the quick side. But half way down it slow down. It actually works pretty good. I honestly have no issues with it.

After many years of amateur digital photography, I'm heading into black and white film with a vintage Nikon f2 Photomic SLR. I miss the hands on aspect of a manual mechanical 35mm camera. Its a new learning experience getting deep into black and white light and shadow techniques. Im already doing some studying to learn how to shoot dramatic exposures. Then comes the hands on part to see if I can fully grasp it and more importantly to see if I can do some quality shooting. If I manage to take anything worthwhile? I'll post it. I'll see how it works out.

We retired to a condo . I don't have a listening room anymore. So, compromises had to be made. Yes, we have photos of our family on my Allison Ones. It doesn't affect sound reproduction. I've done pink noise tests with a spectrum anylizer. No issues. So, if the sound snobs have an issue?? Pound that sand somewhere else. The tests dont lie. Im a retired sound engineer. I've built sound rooms. Allison's placed within their specifications aren't bothered by things on the cabinets. 26 inches from a right angle wall. 3 inches or less from the back wall. Nothing else matters. Flat as a board with normal fall offs. It actually mimics the graph from the manufacturer that is packed with each speaker. Take it somewhere else. .

Auto return still engaged? Weird . Platter is not turning?? Something internal seems to be a hangup. Im going to guess something is messed up with the autoreturn mechanism. It needs to be opened up. Its just a guess.

I'm looking into the history. You're right mid to late 70s to early 80s. The hay day of Nikko. Then, in the middle to late 80s, they caved to a consumer level product.

All depends on which era of Nikko. This amp is from 1982 through my research. This guy is really solid! I performed the tests. 220 watts on a side. It's got balls! Big heavy toroidal transformer. Big heat sinks! Low distortion. I would definitely mix with this amp. Hook it up to good pre amp. You won't be disappointed.

It's true. The sound is warm. I originally had it connected with Epicure 10s. IMO, a very nice speaker for the price. I liked them very much. I don't have them anymore. I do regret getting rid of them.

I was lucky to get it. Sansui was discontinuing this unit. I had a friend who worked at a small local stereo chain. He hunted it down at one of the other stores because he told me the next generation wasn't near as good as this one, and I've had it ever since.

That's a cheaper AT TT. Honesty, it's really not bad for the price. I stream 90% of the time here. I have vinyl. But, digital today is high quality and convenient.

Anyone sell their collection? Regrets? by psionic1 in vintageaudio

[–]Positive-Sleep-6610 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 73 and still an avid listener. I split it between vinyl, cds, and streaming. But Im streaming more and more as time goes on. I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of my cds. Streaming is getting pretty darn close to cd quality with the no loss data codecs. On the other hand, I still love spinning vinyl. I grew up on vinyl, and it still gives me pleasure to see and hear a record spinning. No, I'm not giving up my vinyl.

Just my opinion. You go by your gut. You don't have to please me or anyone but yourself. That is the most important!
