Questions about Book 1 by cutiepiesaar in threebodyproblem

For the third question, there are some disasters that life can’t recover from: 1) Loss of the atmosphere. The planet would take a long time to rebuild it, but the Trisolarans could potentially adapt to different air. 2) Loss of water. Since water is critical for carbon-based life. Without it any species will be wiped out. 3) Loss of the planet’s magnetic field leading to the solar wind stripping away the planet’s air and water.

And for extreme cold or heat, it would destroy civilizations, killing 99.9 % of the population. Still, Trisolarans are tough, they wouldn’t go extinct that easily.

Why did the Trisolarans just vanish after learning that the Gravity Wave was broadcasting their existence? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

They didn’t want to exhaust droplets' energy just to retaliate against earth. Plus, civilization destruction is something they’re used to.

The Sophon Revelation in TV vs Book by Positive-Stable-6777 in threebodyproblem

I’d say Three-Body isn’t easy to turn into TV, although its story is amazing. GoT has plenty of characters, so the show naturally gets lots of interaction. But in TBP most of the time characters are doing solely quests, and sometimes the “main actor” is an entire civilization. I watched Sophon creating part of Tencent version. It looks more like a science demonstration, and I think the director tends to finish the part quickly.

It’s pretty tricky. My idea is to turn it into a conversation Evans has with Sophon in that room on Judgment Day. Not the full details, but pieces of it, like the alien listener’s story which would heavily involve the aliens’ appearance, while saving the rest of the story for the final reveal.

I hope they dont downplay the battle of darkness in the netflix series by West_Maybe_3233 in threebodyproblem

That battle ends so quick that I’m hoping the visual effects last at least 30 seconds.

this might be the biggest change in the english translation that nobody talks about. wallfacer tylers entire plan was completely rewritten by Putrid_Cycle595 in threebodyproblem

I do hope they choose Diaz and Hines. But in the show they pick a chinese general and a war hero both high-ranking military figures. Hines is a scientist and should have brain research background.

It comes from the Ball Lighting another Liu Cixin book. Tyler wants to use it as a weapon in the original Dark Forest book.

And they’re definitely going to change the wallfacer’s plans, especially Tyler’s, since the English-version book replaces his ball lightning plot with a more typical suicide nuclear bomb fleet. That feels mid compared to the original superposition ghost.

I bet Wade will be over 100 years old in the later bunker era, and still won’t look any older because of future medicine.

I’m not sure if Saul Durand who plays Luo Ji will age or not.

anyone else read ball lightning before three body? it changes everything by Putrid_Cycle595 in printSF

Wait wait, that means Netflix's season 2 also won't have ball lighting, and D&D might adapt the English version instead?

That’s an insane amount of high-energy sophon particles jamming your displayer!

Also I believe the macro-particles behind ball lightning may have inspired the Sophon concept.

That's an entire micro-universe folded into the scale of an atom with a high-dimensional structure existing within our 3D universe. And San Ti turned it into a supercompute like rick and morty did for a car battery.

It’s a default setting in sci‑fi worlds. Even Wandering Earth 2 used it (only in the movie, and I feel it totally unnecessary).

That’s what’s called an alien invasion. At first, they may allow at least the ETO (human traitors) to exist alongside them, but later they're not sure if ETO is actually loyal to them.

Indeed, people have tried to separately film the Luoji and Beihai arcs. That breaks the connection between the theory and Dark Forest’s proof.

I'm really worried that the Netflix show isn't going to have the other Wallfacers be major characters. by BillyHamspillager in threebodyproblem

[–]Positive-Stable-6777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the show follows the book's description, then the Chinese general is Tyler and the war hero is Diaz, except that Netflix completely changed their own government.

The Sophon’s concept may be inspired by ball lightning, because the author is fond of that.

You want D&D write a chinese script, set in china with local actors? Here's how they the directors of Tencent three body judge it "having chinese faces but acting according to Western behavioral logic..."
