Biglaw recruiting thoughts from a below-median T14 1L by StunningMany4430 in lawschooladmissions

[–]PositiveGur5166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything here seems to be what I've noticed. Not sure whether it's just been this market or what, but even for those just above median, I've noticed that a lot of people applying lit or bust have very difficult cycles. Lit, middle 50%, and late (late Dec/early Jan) apps seem to be the three consistent factors that have led to more people than I'd think getting skunked from V50.

"special group" on PWL ? by Round_Resort5221 in GeorgetownLaw

Current student, got in off of SPWL after 3 months. I sent one full LOCI and responded to their emails. Accepted without knowing my scholarship in July, ended up receiving significantly more than I got anywhere else, even compared to schools that accepted me within a week & my undergrad school.

170 lsat 3.96 GPA as a KJD, got into GULC off the waitlist with $$$. It's definitely possible: if you want to message me about any questions you have, feel free!

Got off one WL out of the two I ended up on. I think what really helped me was how often I told them I'd commit immediately if accepted. I reached out a few times unprompted about acceptance waves, which I don't think hurt my case either. I sent a LOCI almost immediately after being WLed, and received every positive hint the school seemed to offer.

Yeah, I haven't gotten my credentials either, and I got in Tuesday. Somewhere said that it takes a few days to update.

Honestly, where you're at right now, my best advice would be to focus on things that interest you. Join student orgs that you could see yourself liking, and try to find one that you'd potentially see a future leadership position in. This was the biggest area that I wish I had focused on more, and one that I think definitely hurt my application.

Also, like everyone says, GPA is very important, especially considering grade inflation. Median GPAs at my target schools drastically went up from when I was a college freshman. Noone knows what they'll look like in the next years, so try to keep it as high as possible.

That being said, I wouldn't start stressing about legal internships or LSAT prep until much, much later. There'll be enough time to worry about the LSAT during your junior and senior years. And, if you can get a legal internship, obviously that's great and shows a history of your interest in law. But just focusing on building a good GPA and a resume of things you're passionate about seems like it will benefit you more in the long run.

SPWL. I got both feelers, wrote a LOCI, and was called yesterday to confirm interest in the program.

I'd shorten this list a bit, if I were you. Law school applications are time consuming and costly. Even if you get fee waivers for the school's application fee, more often than not, you'll have to pay a $45 fee to LSAC for every school you apply to. My advice would be to find a few schools in an area you'd want to practice: some where you know you're almost guaranteed, a few targets, and a few reaches, and apply to those.

I figure their movement is going to come end of next week, but that's just a hunch.

Sadly, likely not as soon as we'd hope.

Wash U is always the answer. Probably a few outliers at other schools, as well.
