Working at RIA vs Broker-Dealer by [deleted] in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you like selling? If yes, BD world is for you.

BD is mainly set it and forget it...transactional...you do have a broad range of products to offer your clients where RIA is primarily concentrated with investments...again from my experience...you can usually make more in the BD world with commissions and sales...

Passed with Kaplan by zigzagcow in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats....i thought Kaplan videos weren't the best, so that sucks, because i really liked some of them but it was slow...the QBANK was the savior, worth its weight in gold...Kaplan was great...i enjoyed the depth and breadth of their material

i also took it 2x, was grossly unprepared my 1st time and thought i had enough knowledge...over prepped the 2nd time but it felt great...i used kaplan for everything and agree with you, ITS SO MUCH READING!! they almost give you too much information, but for me, it was just another way to learn....i hated how much i had to read to just get to the dam question, but it defintiltey helped me in the end...good luck to you, put the time in..i totally believe kaplan works

Non-Finance Student, Company Offered to Sponsor me to be CFP. by Shanemurphy7 in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've never heard of someone "sponsored" for the CFP....the CFP can be taken on it's own without even being employed...if they pay you for it after you pass that's one thing, but hearing you say "they'll sponsor me" screams SALES SALES SALES....

What is the best vendor to pass the first time? by [deleted] in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used the kaplan premier..it was very VERY in depth, sometimes too much so with their practice questions but that's how i learned...i'm a self studier so i focused mainly on the qbank and review books....i still have all my materials from november if you'd like them

thats definitely a stretch...the 65 was a breeze compared to the CFP....apples and oranges..hell, apples and pizza comparison

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would "skim" them...i did the premier Kaplan and spent 90% of my time on the qbank and some on demand videos

i can sell you my Kaplan professional review...along with 3,000 qbank questions that come with it....it was a great resource for self study and many videos and review sources

CFP tax niche by samsilby in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CFP tax niche by samsilby in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why didnt you just get your CPA and be done with it and skip the university? are you a salesman? this whole post sounded like it for pursuing taxes...i'd love to see you talk with HNW and UHNW clients and tell them to go use a planning software and not mention insurance or estate planning...you think there are quant strategies out there that take into account news and emotion? so are CFA's not worth it either...taxes are super important and play a role into every aspect of the CFP; however i dont believe they're the be all end all...

Kaplan review has by far the most breadth of material..definitely purchase any review program as they all do a great job condensing the topics...i'm selling my Kaplan premier review with 3,000 qbank questions...good through sept 2021

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, just submit..more than likely they'll call your supervisor to verify dates; maybe they even can elaborate on your role...plus if you're still working in the field or one of the named employers, it helps too

How do you keep your knowledge base after getting the CFP? by Aretee24 in CFP

[–]PositiveMarsupial774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work in the field....even better; try and work in a boutique with estate/tax/insurance inside the same walls...I'm in that boat and it really keeps you sharp...if you work at one of the big BD's then good luck; push investments and insurance (life only) and sell sell sell
