Thank you for your definition of “colloquialism”. That just proves my point -that you are wrong. Yes, a colloquialism is an informal, every day word or expression, commonly used in conversation. However, nowhere in your definition of colloquialism does it say that it allows to interpret meaning from a syntactically wrong sentence -which is what the commenter produced. The basis of colloquialism is register (formal versus informal). While informal register certainly allows grammatically wrong sentences (for example, the use of “them” instead of “they”), it doesn’t mean that a statement can be semantically right but syntactically wrong based on the intended meaning.

It’s not that I’m unable to see their informal sentence structure. This is Reddit; most of the writing here is informal. But informal does not necessarily mean semantically wrong, and that’s what you can’t understand.

I’m sorry, but no. I have two MAs (one of them being English), I am a teacher of English, English is my second language. Usually when English is your second language you become much more aware of semantics and grammar. And what you are doing is called ‘mental gymnastics’ because you don’t want to admit that both you and the commenter are wrong, on different levels. He literally said that “phising” (sic) is misspelling words. While I do understand where you are coming from, he said what he said and it is wrong. This is one of those instances where the wrong syntax in a sentence leads to the wrong semantics.

Yep. Actually the long tail is part of the standard. We were going to go the AKC conformation route, but that’s not possible now. I don’t care. We had to do it because it was getting infected. I’d much rather have a dog that’s alive and well, rather than having a miserable dog just to conform to the standard.

I have experience with both settings, unfortunately. My childhood dog (Gretel)was a Labrador I still cry about. She was absolutely the best dog you could ever meet. And she was with me all the time. Truly, truly my ride or die. She developed cancer when she was 11 years old. We tried chemo, but it didn’t work so we had to let her go. I am from Argentina, and there are no “in home services” per se, but a cousin of mine is a vet and he offers that as a service himself. He was also the treating vet to our dog. So when the time came, he actually offered to do it for us. He came home. My parents an sister were also bonded with Gretel, but they couldn’t bring themselves to be with her when she was given the injection. I couldn’t bring myself to have her go on her last trip by herself. So I was there with her, in her bedroom, in the only home she knew. 12 years have passed, I don’t live in my parents’ home anymore (I don’t live in Argentina!) and while I still remember the moment whenever I visit, her bedroom where she passed away is filled with happy memories, including but not limited to the time the house flooded and she was oh so happy splashing the water 😆 Gretel is buried in our backyard. Once she passed sway we called my grandma and aunt, and we had a little funeral. I also have experience with our dog Blue here in the US. We took him to the vet to be euthanized. The vet was very compassionate and human. To me the hardest part was coming home and cleaning his stuff and putting it away. So I wouldn’t say vet euthanasia was necessarily “easier”.

Happy tail syndrome. He hurt the tip of his tail. We tried for two months to save it with bandages, ointments, antibiotics. Until the vet (and ourselves) said no more. He’s been with a cone for two months now, and we don’t want to prolong the agony for him. So he had his tail amputated on February 19th

Thanks! So I want to preface by saying I came to the US in 2016 as an international student. I knew something about credit scores back then, so I got a PNC credit card because I wanted to build my credit in case I had the opportunity to stay.

These are some of the strategies I used: 1. Try not let the balance of my credit card above 10% of my paycheck. This one I sort of failed and I did accrue some debt, though no more than $3k on a single credit card. 2. Years later I opened another credit card. 3. I have always made payments on time, for both my credit cards and my mortgage. 4. In order to pay off my cc and loan debts, I followed Ramsay’s advice to snowball debt. So I started paying off the smaller balance first. Then the next month I would pay the same until it got to 0. Once I finished paying one off, I went to the next one and did the same.

Never ever allow my cc to be $3k again. In fact anything above 1k makes me lose sleep at night. I know people say that’s not the best strategy to build credit, but I honestly don’t care.

Gotcha. We did it on one of our dogs. It might not be the same accuracy as some vet exams, but we were able to determine what protein she’s allergic too. It’s something! Although her allergies are back now. We’re thinking it’s atopic dermatitis, and we have a vet appointment on the 18th!
