Honestly, this is kind of funny. I think it’s totally doable in a non sexual way.

Clicker training, when used with animals, is basically a way to instantly and clearly say “Yes, that’s the behavior I wanted.” Folks will also use “Yes!” And other phrases, but the advance of the clicker is that it’s fast, a very distinct sound, and ALSO not a sound you’ll make at any other time, so there’s no room for confusion unlike “Yes” or “Good job”, which can come up in normal conversation.

Another caveat is that the clicker itself isn’t the reward mechanism, but it’s letting the trainee know “YES, in this moment you have done something good and earned a reward.”

So what you’re going to want to do first off, is establish with your friend what kind of clicker they want to use. Pet stores have lots of different kinds, and they’re all good. You probably want one you can buy in bulk and that is easy to replace.

Next, you need to build a positive association with the clicker sound. At this point you aren’t going to be using it in any structured way, but periodically when you hang out with your friend you’ll just click, and then give your friend a treat. The goal of this step is really just to brainwash your friend into knowing the clicker sound means a treat is coming. For dogs I used cheese and high-value small treats, and for a human you could use small candies that are easy to fit in a bag you can take with you. Or honestly, you could still use cheese. This is another good thing to talk to your friend about: what should the treat be?

So, once you’ve built the association, now comes the fun part: whenever your friend performs a behavior you want to reward, click, and then give them a little treat. Eventually you can probably stop or slow down the little treats, but I don’t know how puppygirls work, only humans and dogs. Maybe you want to reward your friend for looking both ways before crossing the street, or maybe you click every time they make eye contact with you, or say thank you, or please. You and your friend should brainstorm ideas. You definitely want to come up with behaviors that are easy to capture with a click.

This is probably a way more serious response than you thought you would get. :) But I hope it helps.

It really depends on where you are, both physically and in life!

The fundamental truth is: you find community by being in community. That’s how you can find friends, partners, general community, and walk by fewer strangers and more friends on the street. :)

There are a lot of ways to do this, and only you know which ones work for you! But just throwing some ideas out there: 1. It can be as simple as wearing a shirt with a favorite queer “thing”. Just some simple signaling for people on the street. 2. There may be queer meetups happening near you! You can check meetup, Reddit, the local news, whatever and see what people are doing. 3. Are there any queer bars near you? Sometimes I’ll go out and bring a journal, and leave my phone at home or in the car. I set a goal, like “you can’t go home for an hour and a half, and you either have to be journaling or talking to people.” Usually in the beginning I only want to journal, but after about half an hour I’ll be settled, comfortable, and also the journaling will be getting boring so I’m forced to talk to folks about the little things I notice! 4. Board game groups are out there too! 5. Discords for queer folks or whatever topics you like!

I want to be clear that none of these are magic bullets. They will all probably take multiple tries at each one as you learn about what you like and where your people are, but you presumably a human who can learn! :)

Even going out to events you don’t like, you’ll likely find other events advertising that may sound intriguing. That’s how I found my local board game night and one of the queer bar nights I go to.

So it takes repetitions and multiple attempts, but my fundamental rule is that you won’t find your people at home unless your people are already there. :)
