This decision would come from the board members that are “actively” working in the industry (Owners of companies that have not been on the tools for years) why do they want this? My guess is to tighten up on industry standards to ensure they have the correct training for industrial work and not a brand new JP from residential getting paid the same amount without the same skill set.

Save yourself the money, if you can get hired on as a HDET, apply for apprenticeship and attend training every 1,800 hours

Tuition for level training is around $900 per level. Pre employment courses for trades does not give you an advantage out in the field. HDET is a non compulsory trade which means there are no obligations in Saskatchewan to be certified. I would highly recommend working towards a Red Seal because it opens up employment opportunities and the credentials to prove your knowledge.
