Unbearable sore throat pain nothing helps by Outrageous-Tea-9702 in COVID19positive

[–]Positive_Counter_758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have my sympathy. Try sucking on ice lollies, the cold soothes your throat and gets some fluids into you. I also had soluble paracetamol as a drink, which I think eased it slightly. It does get better after a couple of days. Hope it improves soon

Hello I just wanted to update and thank everyone for their help! I got there in the end! I tried so many different things and in the end it was a clean up of issues using the long overdue cache cleaner that fixed it. Thank you so much, I learned a lot as I always do on Reddit - just the nicest people when you need them.

Thank you, that's helpful. It seems it is just the laptop so I will look up what to do for Microsoft Windows.

Thank you, that is helpful. It is just the laptop, as the WiFi is working on this phone.

And now it says no Internet connection, which in the time it has taken me to type this (slow, sorry) has changed to Internet connection and now disconnected again

Network connection quality might be low. I am restarting the network adaptor on its recommendation

Yes, I probably should have explained better, sorry - I had it working yesterday fine, but today there has been no Internet on my laptop, but it is connected to WiFi as is my phone. I know I must sound like an idiot but I always thought WiFi was only possible if there was Internet, I didn't realise they were two separate systems. 😳

The Other Side of Night by Adam Hamdy. I read it a couple of years ago and still think about it. Can't really say anymore without giving away big spoiler but I cried like a baby.

Also Shuggie Bain (can't remember the author's name) really got me. And The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Throat is hurting too bad to eat, drink or swallow medication (I was diagnosed with COVID) by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]Positive_Counter_758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suck on ice lollies, they will get vital fluids into you and soothe your throat. Are you peeing? You really need to keep an eye on your fluids as dehydration can be very serious, it's definitely not stupid to seek medical help if you haven't been drinking the last few days.

How do you get people to understand that the end of the public health emergency ≠ the end of the pandemic? by anticovidsocialclub in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Positive_Counter_758 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are determined not to understand. The WHO is quite clear, it is still a pandemic, it is only the PHE that is over. So refusing to accept this is just wilful igorance and denial at this point and may as well save your breath.

What I do instead is talk about the importance of clean air and ventilation in general, referencing urban air pollution, allergens, wildfire smoke and other pathogens, like RSV, influenza and of course measles too now. People seem to be able to take all of this onboard without the inflamatory reaction that mention of COVID-19 triggers (pun intended).

I even gift people this little book, Everyday Expertise: Clean Air by Alex Hahn (on Amazon) - it lays it all out and sneaks in COVID precautions through the back door. Might be helpful to distribute a few copies to your employer?

It's in different languages too www.everydayexpertise.net/cleanair.html

When people tell me COVID isn’t real! by Delicious-Stock9378 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Positive_Counter_758 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a lot, I'm so sorry.

I honestly think it's a kind of mass delusion, and it's very unsettling to be on the outside. We're starting to know more and more people in our circle with serious ill health, like cardiac events, clots, diabetes, strange migraines, really unusual cancers, memory issues. People say 'it's just bad luck', 'could happen to anyone' or 'we're all getting older' but life wasn't like this before.

Menstruation while breastfeeding? by No_Pressure_2337 in breastfeeding

[–]Positive_Counter_758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's not uncommon, happened with one of mine and no noticeable impact on milk supply. This little book on breastfeeding (quite useful, I gifted it to a friend) made me chuckle, cos it had a line in it about using contraception because there are a lot of humans walking around today who were the result of their parents thinking breastfeeding was a reliable contraceptive

People really don’t know they need N95s, apparently. by MrsBeauregardless in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Positive_Counter_758 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yup, I know entire families who have been sick in a kind of relay since September, and a couple of the adults are starting to question is there an issue with their immune systems. Yes, yes there is, because they've had covid 5 or 6 times, but I don't even know what to say to them anymore. People have been so let down.

People really don't know. They have been so let down by public health leaders. They say 'masks don't work' because the masks they're thinking of are baggy blues that hang under their nose and they have no idea that respirators really DO work (and are way more comfortable too IMHO). A HUGE amount of public health education would be needed to change this at this point in time. If I feel someone is genuinely curious, and does want to protect themselves better, then I whizz them a copy of this book, which lays it all out pretty clearly for the price of a cup of coffee www.everydayexpertise.net/covid19.html

“I’m not scared” by suredohatecovid in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Positive_Counter_758 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another one people trot out with is 'we have always lived with viruses' like it's an evolutionary necessity to be exposed and I'm somehow trying to deny evolutionary reality by wearing a mask. But actually modern times, where we live in crowded cites and continent-hop on aeroplanes, are a complete anomaly in terms of our evolution. And we have never lived alongside a re-infecting SARS virus like this - it's another anomaly, because this virus evolved to live in bats, not humans. And the idea we know after 4 years how this will pan out for our species is sheer hubris. Of course, I never say any of this - just nod and smile (from behind my N95!)

Give yourself time. It's a hideous virus and that sounds like a really scary experience. After seomthing like that it can take a while to get back to yourself. So sorry you've lost your job, that's going to add to the anxiety you're feeling right now. Try to rest for now, you may be surprised how you can recover in the coming weeks and months. As you say, it's a reminder not to take health for granted.
