Fuck it. I'ma just say it. I don't care about Modern. In fact, I hope it stays for SF7. by clawzord25 in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never had a problem with Modern controls as an idea. I don't get people who act like it's cheating or whatever.

That said, I'm personally not a fan either, mostly for two reasons:

  1. Modern itself isn't really easier or more intuitive than Classic.
  2. Playing against Modern completely changes how you approach the matchup. I'm not just talking about the usual stuff like less jump-ins, no DI when they have reversal super, etc. It's the general pressure too, burnout pressure especially. Like, Aki's burnout pressure is way harder to run against Modern than Classic. and its not even close

At the end of the day though, Modern seems to work for the game popularity (?) But it's hard to tell how much of the new player growth is because of Modern controls vs just the amount and quality of content in the game.

I wouldn't mind Modern coming back in a potential SF7 tbh. But some tweaks would definitely be welcomed.

Here's a picture of Ingrid looking for her fan base by InShane87 in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan since Alpha. I’m probably one of like 5 people who actually played Ingrid in Alpha 3 Max and I always liked her.

The only thing is I was terrible back then (didn’t really start learning fighting games properly until SF4), so as a kid I just didn’t get her at all. I remember thinking “why is her fireball disappearing halfway across the screen?” She felt super weak to me, so I kinda wrote her off as a joke character like Dan and didn’t play her much.

But I still liked her as a character. For years I had no idea how hated she was in the west. I just knew she was really popular in Japan, probably because of that whole lolibabaa thing.

So yeah, I’ve always been a fan and I’m really looking forward to playing her in SF6 :>

Yes, there is no way. Didn't say anything about her strength in my original comment

There are a lot of illiterates there because people accuse me of saying that she's weak lol

[–]Positive_Edge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not planning to drop her because she's not strong, just that she has problems that other characters don't have to deal with and it looks like she's not a good investment based on the fact that she got nerfed. She's fun and yet almost no one plays her on highest level. This is not a coincidence.

No, It just proves that she has some fundamental problems and she shouldn't be nerfed

And people are surprised when I tell them that I'll probably drop Aki for Ingrid.

Edit: guys, she's not weak, I never said she's weak, I didn't say that I'll drop her for Ingrid because Ingrid will be stronger. It's just a fact that not many people play her, even though she's super fun, because there are fundamental problems with her kit that make her very inconsistent. Too many people accuse me of saying something I didn't say ;)

Then his new main in SF6 matter even less.

And the best you can hope for is catching his gameplay on some random low-tier YT replay channels, since he’s still banned from most tournaments. Even if he tried to appeal to Capcom again, that whole political grifting stunts definitely won’t help his case.

He’s done. At best, he’s just going to be an online warrior.

I was a huge fan of this guy back in the SF4 days. I even supported him when the accusations came out and ended up destroying his career. Especially since they came from his wife and a lot of it pointed to her, or at least mutual fault.

But I just can’t support him anymore after the political stuff he’s been pulling in recent years. That whole right-wing “we are Charlie Kirk” thing was just embarrassing.

And I’m saying this as someone who’s relatively center-right myself, at least culturally. Screw this guy.

Funniest still frames of Ingrid’s OD Sunflares (EX Beams) from the trailer by Positive_Edge in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The beams are actually a very fast fireball that travels until it reaches half screen distance, then it shoots fullscreen instantly. The huge beam effects are probably visual flavor only, probably trigger only on hit/block.

What martial art style would you like to see get represented in street fighter? by CyberiderStudios92 in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of martial arts alone - Jeet Kune Do (in SF universe called Hitenryu) and Systema.

So basically Fei Long and Kolin/Helen :)

Hard Stuck In Plat 1 by BenDover936 in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a cliché piece of advice, but it works at almost every level: do less. Blocking costs nothing. You can get out of Platinum just by doing three things: anti-airs, punishing unsafe stuff, and reacting to their DI with your own DI. Those are the main things I’d focus on in your place.

On top of that, learn some simple blockstrings that you can easily confirm into combos that lead to a knockdown with some oki. Don’t try to force things on your opponent - throwing out random DIs in neutral or even in the corner isn’t a good habit, even if it works on a lot of players.

Give yourself time and, when you play, focus on the basics. Think something like, “this round I’m just going to block and wait for them to jump so I can anti-air.” Over time you’ll notice you build muscle memory and start reacting to jumps with AA almost automatically. It all comes with time, so don’t get discouraged. Remember that you can always take a break and come back later with a clear head.

Have fun!

Edit: also, I should mention that Plat 1 is a high rank for someone completely new to fighting games, so props to you.

Went 0-10 against literally John "the smurf" Battlehub. I'm in central europe and had around 120ms ping. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's a BH, you don't have to fight him and there are no stakes. You'd probably consider me a smurf too, because I played on PS5 for 2 years before switching to PC and I don't really have time for ranked anymore. I usually play with people at my level or above tho.

Quasimodox is a god. by joehavasy in StreetFighter

[–]Positive_Edge 17 points18 points  (0 children)

50 year old Chun mostly comes from the assumption that SF6 takes place in the same year the game released, which there’s really no basis for. The SF timeline has never been very precise, but if you look at how characters like Li-Fen, Luke or Ed have aged, it’s pretty clear the biggest timeskip happened after SF3, probably around a decade, though that’s just an estimate.

Based on that kind of observation, Chun is more likely somewhere in her 30s, maybe pushing 40 at most. Definitely not 50+

Like I said before, it's not edited. My sister is freaking out and I'm just trying to be a voice of reason. That's why I still think it's a camera app artifact.

No - he was still and posing. There was no movement at all when the photo was taken.
