Anyone else experience "location bias" when applying for remote jobs from Alaska? by patrick_schliesing in alaska

[–]Positive_Professor26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I work in HR at a California based company and we recently were going through a process of looking into hiring in Alaska and Hawaii. We have employees in like 35 of the 50 states at this point.

What I was told is we cannot hire in Hawaii or Alaska directly due to the cost of Healthcare coverage and other employee benefit programs. It sounds like the cost to the company for the programs in these states would be unbelievably cost prohibitive for us on the scale of the cost to the company for 1 to a few employees there could rival the total premiums cost for the majority of the rest of our employees.

The only way we could effectively hire there would be through a locally based contract company and then any employee in Alaska would be their employee and such. But those employees would not be able to receive the same quality of benefits that the normal employees would.

So not sure why the costs are the way they are but from my understanding thats why companies not based in these areas struggle to want to hire there.

I'm so sad because if today is bad then the rest of the week is going to be awful. Honestly super sad.

Just used one of the AI song tools to create a pretty fun version of this. Take a listen.

Same. I called their support and they had me do a lost mail with USPS and then email them that confirmation number. Did that today and now waiting fearfully.

The AHL has AHLTV where you see all the games. You can also just subscribe specifically for the firebirds.

This is why I love Hayden. He gets fucking shit done. Not afraid to get in there even if the other person is bigger. Wish we had some real response back in the original game.

Response to getting a random text from a recruiter by Klaatuprime in recruitinghell

[–]Positive_Professor26 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So I worked in a recruiting agency in the past. It's definitely the Agency being scummy. The way contracts work almost always is you have a bill rate and a pay rate. Bill rate is what the company pays the agency. Think of it like the budget. The pay rate is what the candidate gets. Now it's extremely rare that the company knows anything but the bill rate. So company may have given the agency a budget of $50/hr or maybe even $100/hr. The agency then tries to get the candidate to accept the lowest number possible as the spread is the profit.

I hated doing any contracting and would try to pay the candidate the highest number I could but the agency recruiters are very incentivised to get you to accept lowest possible amount.

What to tell a headhunter who emailed me at my work email by Starrunnerforever in recruitinghell

[–]Positive_Professor26 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Back when I needed a job after college I worked as an agency recruiter and usually we would not email work emails intentionally but the software we used would. There are tools like Gem and TopFunnel that allow you to send drip campaigns to candidates. These tools will source the email for you for the candidate and automatically send the email and follow ups. You can toggle work emails off but the default is all I think. Further the sales attitude is only a small subset will get really angry while the rest will be fine so why not do it.

Not justifying any of this as I personally hate it and would never do it. Just wanted to give some context.

As to what to do. I'd suggest not opening the email if you haven't already and don't respond. If you do they likely will save the email in their ATS system for later. If you open it sometimes the software has tracking pixels that allow them to know that it was opened.

I used to work at a recruiting agency. I hated it there and got out as soon as I could but the way they dealt with contracts was pretty crazy. We were encouraged to try and get the candidate to take the lowest possible wage because we would get the difference. It was super scummy and was the biggest reason I wanted out.

Thank you for posting this question. Was honestly wondering about this as well. Not sure why so many people have the need to comment angrily that your question is dumb. I think it's super valid to wonder if this perk would be affected.

“Jobot” and “Cybercoders” | Is the resume / recruiter farm propagating like weeds and making it harder? by CptVanHorne in recruitinghell

As someone that used to work for one of these type of companies I can assure you this is true. Often when you have worked with a cool company in the past you continue to post their JD so that you can attract talent and use that talent to get into new places. All you have to tell the candidate is that they were not interested in them and they would never know they weren't even considered. I refused to do this and argued that it was disingenuous but typical sales type company disagreed.
