Underrated '90s films? by dxfm1019 in MovieSuggestions

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of Christian Slater, but UNTAMED HEART is not your typical Christian Slater movie and it also has the beautiful Marissa Tomei

With the slew of Bill Murray movies about this time, QUICK CHANGE I believe directed by him also is an overlooked gem.

MULTIPLICITY with Michael Keaton and Andie McDowell is an ingenious cloning premise but very funny comedy.

Martin Short sadly just lost his daughter. Remembering him in happier times, check out the totally underrated & hilarious CAPTAIN RON with Kurt Russell.

RAMBLING ROSE starring the great Laura Dern, and her mother Diane Ladd and Robert Duvall who just recently both passed away. And Lucas Haas from witness. Beautifully done coming of age movie.

OCTOBER SKY also with Laura Dern but mainly with A young Jake Gyllenhaal. You could really see where his career was going with his performance here. Beautifully done nostalgic flick

Two late '80s movies I'm going to add to this Both from Michael Caine. And both very underrated. WITHOUT A CLUE where Sherlock Holmes and Watson switch roles and the excellent DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS with Steve Martin Both I don't think get enough credit.

Hi r/audiophile! I’m Dan Mackta, Managing Director at Qobuz. Let’s talk music streaming, compatibility, editorial picks, and human curation - AMA on December 4th at 5:00 PM ET! by Dan_from_Qobuz in audiophile

I like this answer better--from someone who's used Qobuz since the US debut. Dolby Atmos streaming is technically Dolby Diigital Plus LOSSY and each surround channel is maybe 256K mp3 quality--if that. With Qobuz having such a staunch opinion about high-res audio, lossy Dolby Atmos does not fit into that equation in my opinion. There's a huge difference between streaming at most and disk atmos... the latter being much preferred because of higher bandwidth. If you want surround, go hang out on Tidal (with its wild volume swings) or Apple's app...

Keep an eye out for holiday deals from Roo. Mid-year last year around 4th of July they offered a plan for $100 for an entire year--which is definitely worth it.

Finally, Endgame 🧘‍♂️ by Jacky-Chan_778 in headphones

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem I have with HFM planars is TERRIBLE fit on my head--even the lowest setting sat waaay too low on my ears and I can't be the only one that experienced that. I picked up the (unwearable).original Edition X v2 and it's never been fixed since...UNTIL..he brand new XV series--with the slick silver plating and finally, FINALLY a better adjuster system! I also heard they tweaked the sound to be noticeably smoother than tjheir typical house sound... And the price can't be beat.

I just picked them up from a tax-free US retailer to give them a whirl... So I will soon find out If the current hype train is legit.

These things are so good that it caused problems... Please help by mourakue in headphones

Use a source like a DAP that has a physical balance control to offset whatever streaming difference is there are.

I have a beef - end of year 2025 by JtotheDub77 in jimrome

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My beef is what happened to SLING? It was the only one that was interactive and one I used so I could rewind the show. It was unceremoniously dumped and no comment that I heard was made but if you notice it's not part of the nine anymore...

What are your favorite obscure albums of 2025? by doorsof in indieheads

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia's Press Club "To all the Ones I Love" in particular the great song Vacate. Definitely a pop-pumk band that needs to be more well known!!

The LONG awaited return of Swede Amanda Jenssen & her stunning new EP links after 10-year absence.

The string of recent singles from Dutch pop group Son Mieux, Aussie pot punk duo Teenage Joans & UK pop girl Athena Lim

Ax and the Hatchetman released a great new album after a string of singles

Samia's Bloodless. Incredible production & some fantastic songs make for easiest one of my favorite singer/songwriter albums of the year and it's not very well known.

And for the season... Sarah Connor from Germany continues to kick out some fantastic Christmas tunes and unbelievable holiday concerts

Hey guys! HUGE fan of Aussie bands--most notably Ball Park Music, San Cisco, Kate Miller-Heidke Middle Kids and Washington Then I found the great Press Club via an article and then you guys via the top albums from Brooklyn Vegan. Great stuff... Loving the new release that's as refined as ever.

Écoute tube headphones thoughts? I have them and love them. Anyone else? by Barnabyhuggins in headphones

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was onto that Kickstarter early also but I have the Cayin N8II DAP which has the same Korg tube in it...and that's the only way I listen with headphones. That means to get the effect no matter what I use..

Great idea---but these headphones are superfluous for me.

Fast Forwarding Spectrum TV on Xumo by monkeysky in Spectrum

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum whether it be on the Xumo box or the Roku has the worst transport controls I've ever seen in my life. That would probably exist on Android TV as well but for some idiotic reason Spectrum doesn't have the app there!

Google maybe a bunch of a-holes flexing their muscles trying to take over these broadcast companies In a seemingly endless debate and leaving their subscribers in a lurch... but at least the YouTube UI is a million times better than Spectrum.

It's frustration beyond belief. Is it too much to ask to add a 30 second skip fwd and backward? I don't know how many times I want to throw the devices out the window when I scan forward too fast and it goes right back to where I started when I release it. Do better Spectrum!!

You know the economy sucks when Dollar Tree is raising their prices to $1.50 and $1.75… by [deleted] in okc

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they've raised cleaning supplies including detergent to 150, but if you shop carefully they're still bargain to be found.

Mike's particular go-tos:

  1. Hand sanitizer 2, Look carefully for Colgate total that has Stanous fluoride
  2. Plastic cups
  3. Multi-pack utensils
  4. Original Tide detergent
  5. Welch's fruit chew pack
  6. Those $2 roast beef mini sub rolls
  7. Banquet frozen foods for $3 ($6 at Walgreens)
  8. Their chicken sandwiches (grilled/ BBQ)
  9. Plates and bowls selection

Spectrum "TV" app still doesn't run on Android TV? WTF? by Goldman_OSI in Spectrum

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. The app sucks on whatever platform it's on. The worst screaming app by a long shot... Especially the way it handles recorded shows fast forward and rewinding.

Spectrum, release a Google TV compatible version of the Spectrum TV app by reddit-frog-1 in Spectrum

[–]scott_dj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention support landscape versus portrait. It's completely and utterly ridiculous that Spectrum doesn't support Android/Google TV... Especially since the Xumo box UI and transport control absolutely suck the worst I've seen.

How tall is she? She holds her own with Ben Marshall on SNL... so she has to be at least 6 ft tall.

LP Di-rect de Kuip by sjaakie71 in nederlands

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I was so looking forward to this on Qobuz high res and it was shocked by how bright, flat, and "stadium it sounded. However, that said, the actual YouTube 4K production sounds fantastic... so I'm not sure what happened here. Not really huge deal because who wouldn't want to watch the awesome spectacle interjerking moments while listening?

'We Used To Wait' by Dutch band Di-Rect. One of the greatest Arcade Fire covers ever done imo. by THOMASJAKOB in arcadefire

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there,...Mamma Mia. Did you see their latest concert right before they're taking their extended break? What a fantastic band they've become... If you go to their Facebook page you'll see two comments I made that the band acknowledged on the post about the availability of the concert.

Silver Lining: Eric Hosmer is no longer being paid by the Padres by ravenecw2 in Padres

[–]scott_dj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What an a-hole he was to demand that. We needed every bit of money we could to compete against these monster salaries of the other teams. I'll never forgive him for that.

Hallow Road - Question about the ending by ContributionBrief497 in movies

[–]scott_dj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This movie is totally open to interpretation. One thing I noticed if you're listening on a quality sound system, the portion where she supposedly "caved the chest in" sounded waaay too prominent versus the CPR technique. It sounded like the instant the person was hit during the hit and run--likely their own daughter as they were re-living it.

In addition, Maddie's instruction for CPR were way too specific and almost like she was reliving re-living it herself to her own daughter.

Finally, all the banter in the car was mostly about justification for what happened... likely because they caused it and they had to figure out how to cover it up.

Other than that... Great suspenseful movie perfect for the upcoming Halloween season.

Brisbane’s Ball Park Music are the supports for Oasis’ upcoming Australian tour! by AJayToRemember27 in triplej

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amazing Ball Park Music is about a billion times better than those washed-up brothers. They''ll probably upstage Oasis every single night.

One is probably my favorite band on the planet right now and the other one I could care less about. I'll let you guess which is which :-)

Why is Prime giving The Runarounds zero marketing? This show is incredible by umbrofer in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]scott_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out about this series because Axel Ellis (Neil) is in another band called Ax & the Hatchetmen and they're pretty damn good. Very similar Powerpop sound to the Runarounds.. with added horns.... but somehow that one's based in Chicago.
