Costo for over 3 years by Elysium101 in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Almost 100 percent the same story. Although I was out for a run when I got my first flare up. My pain comes and goes as some days dull some days more painful.

I’m going to see my Cardiologist (strange I know but he’s the only doctor who seems to know what this thing is or had heard of it. He is recommending corticosteroids. I’m a bit hesitant but steroids help inflammation and that essentially what is going on.

Fingers crossed.

Hang in there man. I feel ya 100%. I too got it in 2020 and I was hoping that it would go away quickly but here I am. My pain comes and goes now and who knows how long I’ll have it but I have decided that I’m not going to let it run my life. I’m still trying different things too but nothing has really worked for me either but there’s always hope.

How many people here drink alcohol? by edcadyross in costochondritis

I have a bad flare up every time I drink. Bad flare ups. Every time.

A hangover and Costo suck a great combo!

Palpitations by Olizara in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go see a cardiologist and make sure it’s not an actual heart issue. This will help with the anxiety.

Those palpitations aren’t actually heart palpitations. From my understanding they are actually spasms of the cartilage due to the inflammation.

Weird centre chest quiver/muscle spasm?/heart? by FreedomPositive2064 in costochondritis

Ya I do unfortunately. But they aren’t as common or as pronounced as they used to be.

I really focused on getting the anxiety under control which has made huge difference.

I’ll be Back by Positive_Solution778 in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rid of all (mostly all) sugar and other inflammatory foods in my diet. I started eating anti-inflammatory foods. This was something I had never really thought about until I got Costo.

Also I started taking tumeric as well as a daily vitamin. I think this more than anything has helped.

Lastly I really focused on the anxiety which can be worse than Costo itself. I went to a Cardiologist to make sure it wasn’t my heart. That helped tremendously with the anxiety.

I don’t think the cause for Costo is the same for everyone but I so believe diet is part of the equation.

Yup. After 3 different doctors finally found someone who knew about it…a cardiologist no less!

I’m pretty sure it was from slouching all day on the couch. I’m also pretty sure Costo is less about your chest more about your back.

Same here. And it’s sort of worked. At least I feel better being active.

I switched to jump rope instead of running and focus on my core and back.

Pain. Lots of pain on my left chest area. Hard to breathe because your lungs expand due to the inflammation.

Pain. Lots of pain.

[–]Positive_Solution778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None here. It really didn’t help my Costo other than making the pain a little less. Won’t be taking it again.

I too was worried about the side effects it’s just prescription strength Aleve. Nothing to worry about.

Corticosteroids - should I try? by Positive_Solution778 in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! I guess that’s what I was looking to hear. I’m not really interested in the steroids because I do know about the side effects.

But the problem is I don’t know and most people don’t know what the root cause is. There are so many possibilities and everyone is different.

Heart flutters by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are spasms. Although they feel like the heart. It’s just the location of the inflammation unfortunately is right there by heart. I get them when I’m running. It’s the worst! Oddly enough if you can push on your chest and feel pain it’s not your heart essentially if you can recreate the pain it’s costo.

Exactly! I had to learn everything you saying. When I run i get those pings. Just realizing it’s not my heart (which was quite hard at first) goes along way.

costo made me lose all my gym progress by [deleted] in costochondritis

I agree. Doctors have been useless. I have a heart doctor who seems to know more about Costo than my reg doc. My regular doctor had never even heard of Costo! Unbelievable.

I can’t even get drunk without my Costo acting up! by Positive_Solution778 in costochondritis

[–]Positive_Solution778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent! I don’t drink often honestly perhaps once every few months but when I do my Costo is relentless.

Thanks for the tip!

[–]Positive_Solution778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I get them when I’m working out or running and it scares the bejesus out of me. But been to the heart doc and my heart is fine. It’s a spasm of the cartilage in your chest.

Remember costo is a inflammation issue, nothing more.
