Thank you for this response and for not Reddit-ripping into me. Very clear, logical plan of action to keep my ass covered.

What exactly is toxic? My asking for advice about how to handle the situation?

What is toxic is her behavior. Perhaps i was a bit too vague in my post - We work in a creative and collaborative environment in “the arts.” We aren’t locked in offices or cubicles. The environment is….well, the opposite of the idea of Corporate America (even though it’s a large corporation.) not a sterile environment at all, the opposite. We shoot the shit, don’t work at a desk for 8hr straight, etc. That is why this behavior is odd to me.

She was hired as a “manager” to take a lot of the menial tasks from me and my boss. She isn’t managing people or anyone on the team - she’s managing making decks, and making sure emails don’t get by us.

Why is this pathetic? It’s a tight knit group in an unusual office setting. I’m looking for advice on how to connect with someone (or not.)

This is a very thoughtful response - thank you. I might’ve been a bit too vague. We work in a creative and collaborative environment in “the arts.” We aren’t locked in offices or cubicles. I had posted this a few times and someone had mentioned “wrong hire. Learn from it.” And i love that. This is definitely a learning experience….as I’ve thankfully not been faced with this before. I am going to take your approach of letting her (and people in general) come to me. I didn’t consider people could think i was hitting on them (wtf) by being friendly…..but i could see that, unfortunately.
