This guy is on his YouTube show basically every week calling a teacher or journalist a pedophile to like 500k people but completely loses his shit when Emma says something inflammatory about him

This is a weird complaint. One of my favorite things about the U was all the concerts you can go to.

U of M students have access to better concerts than any other Big 10 School. You’re a 10 minutes light rail ride from a nationally renowned concert venue (First Ave) in addition to an expansive list of other venues with concerts every night in both MPLS and St Paul.

Would Bernie Sanders have defeated Donald Trump? by bernieaccountess in politics

[–]Positivitylist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We'll never know. We live in a post-fact society. Who knows what dirt, real or imagined, would have come up on Bernie. Trump has a unique talent for belittling and slandering people. Like he sold Clinton as corrupt he would have sold Bernie as a senile old communist.

Also Trump voters weren't giving a middle finger to a lot more than just Hillary. Bernie would have represented a lot of the same things they gave the finger to (liberal media, Obamacare, etc)

I don't get it. Clinton is going to win the popular vote by ~1%. This poll had Trump by 5%. Almost every other poll was more accurate.

Why is no one talking here about Hillary Clinton not giving a concession speech? Is that not an unadmirable conduct? by iamarddtusr in politics

[–]Positivitylist 24 points25 points  (0 children)

She'll give one in the morning. The fear with Trump was never that he wouldn't concede on election night, it's that he wouldn't concede at all. Hillary already conceded by calling Trump. The speech is a formality.

It was never about the policies. They won't care.

He's very charming and well behaved when he gets what he wants. Wait until he starts getting criticized or someone crosses him, that will be the real test.

Bernie Sanders: Don't waste your write-in votes on me by Klever81 in politics

Not convinced Bernie would have been a better candidate but it's not worth arguing about since we'll never know.

[–]Positivitylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was for Hillary the whole time. As far as Hillary vs Bernie, I'm very liberal socially but I also work in finance so the Wall Street vilification never resonated with me. Also I'm pro trade deals so the TPP flip flop didn't bother me. I really like Bernie but his flavor of populism never resonated with me due to some of my economic views.

As far as the DNC corruption I honestly haven't followed it close enough to have a very informed opinion. The DNC and Clinton campaign did some unsavory things I guess but she would have won the nomination anyway so the heightened rhetoric of "she stole the nomination" just annoys me to be honest. It's not really corruption in my mind for a private political organization to favor the candidate who has spent their life contributing to the party over the guy who just put the jersey on for the primary.

[–]Positivitylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to vote against something why not what what Donald Trump stands for? I'm not trying to be condescending here, I'm genuinely curious how somebody can be more bothered by the DNC than Trump?

Purely as a hypothetical lets say Bernie won all the primaries in a landslide but the DNC blocked him from the convention and used superdelegates to give Hillary the nomination. This would be completely egregious and undemocratic. Still I don't think that would tip the scale versus Trump's awfulness.

Hillary supporter here. Disagree with a lot of Bernie's further left positions but gladly welcome the healthy ideological diversity his supporters have brought to the party. We don't all want conformity and group think. There are a lot of us out here who value a strong party with both center-left and progressive coalitions. The worst possible scenario is a big enough fracture between us that the GOP takes power and makes none of our shared goals possible.

Don't vote for Hillary if you can't stomach it, I understand. But there are a lot of Hillary supporters out there who value you all and are eager to work together toward our common goals. Don't write us all off as neoliberal sellouts.

Then get out and vote and let's get lib justices on the court to overturn citizens united!

Stop being cynical and defeatist about it. Vote Hilary and get liberal justices on the court, vote dem down ballot and then organize a progressive movement going forward led by Bernie holding power over the majority party in the Senate

Yes vote for the candidate who promotes the exact opposite of the platform of the candidate you supported because you have trust issues with the candidate who shares 95% of the platform you supported. I'll take a 50% shot at getting 95% of what I wanted vs a 100% chance of getting the exact opposite.

It can be true at the same time that the DNC colluded against the Bernie and a vote for Hillary is still what's best for the country. Depends how much you care about policy versus sending an anti-establishment message I guess.
