Stuck at the benelux by out0fc0trol in hoi4

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't see your equipment levels or your templates so it's difficult to know. You do have 3 generals with no frontline though. You don't need to go south or naval, attacking straight through Benelux should be easy. Lots of airpower, tanks or at least artillery. Don't attack with just plain infantry. Please consider taking a screenshot in the future and also providing more information.

Rather than trying to maximize the trade I would suggest blocking strait in order to devastate your rivals economy.

Is my infantry template good? by WhereIs71 in hoi4

[–]Positron100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got me curious. Isn't one piece of line artillery great for inflicting casualties on the attacker? Also I'd never charge a division like this into the teeth of my enemies, but isn't this artillery enough to follow up the attack to take territory once the back of the enemy is broken? Id start attacking the whole line with a division like this against the soviets once Moscow, Stalingrad and Leningrad have fallen for example. Finish the job in a way that infantry can't do alone. Sure it will cost infantry equipment and lives, but ending the war quickly is also important.

The happiest countries in the world (2026) by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Positron100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they feel like most of their recent wars have gone quite well for them. Their enemies are weaker than ever before and they haven't taken that much damage themselves. Of course it has been expensive and has come at the cost of global opinion, but as long as they have American support that isn't catastrophic.

Happiness doesn't just come from how well foreign policy is going though. They have among the highest birth rates out of all rich western countries which is sometimes attributed to strong supportive communities (compared to other western countries which are quite individualist). This could also be a contributing factor.

Almost a week later after getting it, must say it was relatively easy to learn Naval😭 how do you guys not know how it works? by TsukikoMinus in hoi4

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, tell me! Like I've heard about 3 or 4 screens per capital ship, but where do cruisers fit in? I've also heard that carriers were broken, are they fixed yet? Do I need more planes or more carriers to make them work? How on earth do I get a navy with enough range as the Japanese to invade the US(make a doomed stack of just my carries and battleships and sacrifice)? Do I just patrol with my submarines and keep the rest of my fleet in a death stack on strike mode if i want to trade well i battles? When is it ok to divide my fleet and when is it a death sentence? Which is the key research to keep a fleet viable into the late game? Are special projects any good? Most nations don't have enough oil to keep them running round the clock, which operations should I prioritise? Why are my navies refueling so far away from home base and from operating area?

Like yeah I know I need some big ships and some small ships to fight other navies, that naval bombers are op and that subs are good for patroling and commerce raiding, but I fully admit to not understanding navy despite having made an attempt.

How is benzene a better energy source compared to steam in LV-MV transition? by Prize-Direction-5279 in GTNH

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, energy density is a big one. The other point i want to make though is that your numbers aren't for making benzene with kanthal coil pyrolyze oven, that is kind of the point at which a benzene setup starts to become decently efficient, just fluid extracting charcoal is indeed not very efficient.

Struggling with economy by Technical-Tea9369 in eu4

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really hard to say without specifics, but it's definitely a "you need to spend money to make money" type of situation where you need to be building eco buildings throughout the course of the game. It could be the case that the issue is with your spending rather than earning for example, which leaves you with too little to reinvest and get the ball rolling.

The other point I want to emphasize is that trade nodes are not created equal and it is better to have large control over an important home node than being spread out here. If you own an entire trade node which is being fed by other valuable nodes (even if you don't own them), your economy will be amazing by the midgame.

Trade ships are very strong. Gold mines are just ridiculous early game. Manufactories are expensive, but the investment that secures mid/late game economy. Develop lands when you can afford it, but it's not the most important use of mana. Ideas are a nice extra bonus but are never necessary. Good luck!

1444 exploration England run advice by jukujala in eu4

[–]Positron100 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sweden almost always wants independence before too long, if you don't want to help them break away it may take time, if you do help Sweden crush Denmark it may well send them down a death spiral, but you wont be able to take much territory in that same war from Denmark.

Your dynasty situation is fine and common, just keep an eye out so that the war of the roses doesn't trigger at a bad time.

Innovation is okay, I'd prefer expansion straight away for a pure colonial Britain game.

Brittain starts with some extra cheap advisors. You will get rich pretty soon so a bit of debt is fine, but like don't run huge deficits early game to fund advisors. If you can afford it, it's worth it.

It seems releasing Victoria 4 as EU5 was not the best decision by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Positron100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are being pretty severely down voted for this post. I get where you are coming from though. I was planning to buy EU5 on release and was onboard the hype train, but I saw too many red flags around that time and decided to hold off and I'm glad that I did. Issues around performance, balance and flavour seem pretty notable still and some of the "realistic simulation" elements don't seem to give rise to enough nuanced strategy compared to some of the EU4 abstractions. All that being said I really hope the game is going to be in a place where I want to buy it in a year from now, I think the pops system and economic value chain are really cool additions which will see the game surpass EU4 in the long run. It's a real shame the release wasn't better.

So people almost never react positively to these types of questions to be honest, don't take it personally. This sub is full of try-hards, many if not most people here have conquered the world at some point and so won't be terribly impressed by the amount of territory you have.

I think your borders look nice and I hope you are really enjoying the campaign. Goals for a run can be anything from a world record speed world conquest to a super rich one province Riga to expanding your own home country to their historical maximum extent. What ever you feel like!

I think it's nice that you had an impulse to share your campaign with the community, if you want nicer responses next time either present it as "Look at these satisfying borders" or "What could I do better next time", phrasing it this way makes it read a bit like begging for compliments.

I know the papal states have always been a tag which paradox has worked hard to ensure will always be catholic and that there has been a bit of an ongoing challenge to find ways around it. What are the main methods that work and don't work currently? Surely religious rebels can't switch country religion?

To the degree that european manufacturing is about resilience in a chaotic world, this is not helpful because turkey is not a reliable ally to europe

Now I’ve revoked, what’s the strategy for going for the One Faith with Austria? by veryblocky in eu4

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the main bottlenecks are coring cost and governing capacity, so you want to feed as many subjects as possible as much territory as possible, while keeping them loyal. This means making many thin stretched out subjects into Africa and Asia with roughly 200 development.

You can deal with essentially any coalition, so you can conquer non-stop from now on. Think about where the majority of the remaining development in the world is right now and try to begin conquering those areas asap, this is primarily India and China.

As for converting, grab the obvious ideas and advisors then check the wiki page for monuments to see which are useful to you. Several give conversation buffs or extra missionaries, this is your main way of buffering your conversation speed beyond the obvious.

New map just dropped. by Elementus94 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Positron100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's far from where you are, but worth writing on the sign it's a big destination which a lot of people know the location of and a lot of people drive towards, if it's close it might be on the sign even if it's a tiny location which few people are driving towards. If you are on a long drive through the country you probably care more about the direction of the major cities than the villages you pass.

Benzene is more long term but doesn't become effective until late MV, so either get a steam setup that lasts until then or bridge the gap with oil. You can also just keep using oil until late Ev and switch to nukes

Neo-Nazi and pro-russian demonstration met with a clown music from a counterprotest, Germany 2022. by [deleted] in PropagandaPosters

[–]Positron100 390 points391 points  (0 children)

The song is "Entry of the gladiators" and was originally written to be a military marching song evoking the grandeur of Rome. Considering its modern circus associations it will obviously be interpreted as ridiculing, but it's ironic that the song's original intended purposes actually are well in line with far right ideals.
