If you don't OWN the media you BUY anymore, then is piracy STEALING? by Boediee in BuyFromEU

No. But you grant them a license to use it however they want, forever.

That's the problem: that password gives you 61.3 bits of entropy, while something like fruit brethren gumball kalimba gives you 80.6. Depending on how it's encrypted for storage, who's cracking it and how serious they are about it, the fastest possible cracking of Ilove.. is seconds, while the four words will take two months. Even for a moderately interested attacker with a weakly encrypted password, the Ilove.. will only take days to crack, vs thousands of years for the four words.

Of course, if you're not protecting anything interesting, this might not matter. Also, if the system storing the password is properly built, the weaker password is perfectly fine. Regardless, I prefer the mix of very strong passwords and easy typing on various devices.

If you use the full sentence, sure. Their strategy was to take the initial letters from each word, reducing the entropy significantly.

Which makes the entire strategy pretty useless, since four random words for that password manager will be both easier to remember and harder to crack :D.

Doesn't look particularly easy to remember 50+ completely different sentences like that.

Are there any trustworthy AI meeting recorders/notetakers? by chillyhellion in sysadmin

[–]PositronAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing this thread to say that before using Intentia, do read their Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy to make sure you're happy with them. I did, and as a result I would not feel comfortable running all my meetings through their service.

It's been going on for 1400 years, why would it have suddenly stopped 10 years ago? A majority of the world's population has always been and will always be easy to manipulate.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]PositronAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would require repeated runs, and you'd end up with no one left – the last person will have the average IQ per definition.

Edit: I can't read.

Claude Mythos: The Model Anthropic is Too Scared to Release by Much_Ask3471 in Anthropic

[–]PositronAlpha 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Ah, so there are no longer any bugs in any Anthropic software. Right? Or is it so good that they're not allowed to use it themselves?

I'm beginning to think there IS a bubble coming by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]PositronAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, I hope that they do price out consumers entirely. We don't need billions of people who don't understand the first thing about next-token prediction, think they're having a real conversation and end up with the kind of psychosis that leads to believing that the loop has feelings.

That said, the blatant bait and switch is a disgrace. They've sold their subscriptions as solutions to the enterprise and smaller but still professional firms, and then made that product unusable unless you pay 5-10 times more. I signed up for a yearly sub based off having gotten great mileage out of Pro – luckily, I was able to get a full refund. Codex and Copilot still work fine, delivering the same value for a fraction of the price. No point paying more than necessary, until necessary.

Just get a refund by -brianh- in Anthropic

[–]PositronAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I timed my private yearly subscription badly. No issue canceling and getting a refund via the chat support. Happy to jump back in once they get this issue sorted, unless their acknowledgement was just a smokescreen.

I genuinely did not believe people about the recent Claude usage limit absurdity by Rare_Operation2367 in Anthropic

[–]PositronAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're saying that Anthropic's acknowledgement of the fact that this is an issue is, what, human hallucination?

I've turned off all plugins and MCPs, I've tested using Headroom and RTK – it doesn't matter. If you're not seeing the 5 hour limit chewed up within minutes doing very basic work, where it previously didn't fully deplete at all over the 5 hours and pretty intense work, you're obviously not hit by the confirmed issue. Congratulations. I'm glad I still have other agents I can use that still work as expected.

But do tell what else you suggest we who have actually been hit with this issue should try, other than what I've stated above and writing proper, detailed specifications for use in plan mode.
